I opened this morning Silicon Valley Yelp email with hope. Hope as it was for our specific region and I turn to yelp to point out the little Mom and Pop joints so special to our multi-ethnic eating options. Yipee Yelp! Show me the newest spot down the tiny dark alley where english is barely spoken!
Instead, i found that the reviews mentioned almost entirely for Big Box multinational corporations, restaurants that you could find in any sprawling city in the US. Red Lobster? Olive Garden? Taco Bell? etc... There wasn't one special, endemic restaurant in the bunch! When i moved to the valley from Santa Cruz, the loss of unique Mom and Pop's was one of my greatest disappointments, but I took solace in finding Yelp and reading about the little spots off the beaten track. Today, i was reminded in that email of how one really can take this spot as Anytown USA! Anyone else bummed by this?
