There's a petition to make St. Patrick's an official holiday. I believe it's being sponsored by GUINNESS.

its officially monday, the 17th... always on the 17th.
admittedly, I didn't read the article. maybe because of leap year?? Or maybe because we Irish are always looking for a reason to drink. Wait, actually, those who live in Ireland do not celebrate St. Patty's day in the same fashion we do... (don't think they celebrate it at all). So perhaps its us Irish-Americans who always look for an excuse to drink.
cinco-de-mayo is coming up. Haa haa haah

David D. says:
Of course, the Catholic church had forseen this event, and gave plenty of advance notice, right?
St. Patrick's day was moved to Friday so as not to interfere with Holy Monday.
Catholics were allowed to eat corned beef on Friday just for today, but were requested to go without meat on another day of their choice during Holy Week.
So, for me St. Patrick's day is both today and Monday. Call it St. Patrick's 4-day weekend.
Erin go braless.

yeah, not catholic. Grand-mah ma was Pentecostal. Mum is Methodist. me, non-denominational.
But still look for a reason to celebrate the day (weekend)... excuse to drink. ;o) My ancestors would be so proud.

Uhh.. it was moved to the 15th because it conflicts with holy week. The last time they moved it was 1940 and the next day is in 260.

David D. says:
It was moved to the 15th because St. Patrick wasn't Italian.

I'm not religious but a HUGE fan of St. Patty's Day - got a "317" shirt I've worn every St. Patty's for the last 10 years... but now it seems a little silly to be wearing it on 3/15. Thanks Church.
