We made the mistake of watching the Food Networks hot dog special. Any suggestions for a good Hot Dog on Oahu?

I'm simple...I like to buy the Polish Sausage at Costco and fry it on a frying pan until the skin is crispy....real ono with Zippy's beanless Chili and lots of melted Cheddar Cheese...high cholesterol???who me????  Don't know of any gourmet sausage folks here ...sounds like an opportunity!

I like to order the Costco hotdog ready-made at Costco, and ask for LOTS of saurkraut.  Add unlimited amount of mustard, onion, ketchup, relish (I like only a trace amount of relish, though).  Consume with your medium soda that comes with the hotdog, all for under $2.50.

If it were dill-pickle relish that would be a different story, but it's sweet relish.

it's sad to think that costco has the best hot dog (rather than a local business), but i agree.. and it's cheap to.  i personally prefer the polish sausage over the hot dog.

I like to change it up: regular vs. polish.  They're both good.  If I had to only have one type for the rest of my life it would be the Polish.

All this talk about hot dogs led me to make "shoyu hot dog" for my 18 month old niece this afternoon.  Mmmmmm....

hot dog:  any kine, but to be truly local you must use Redondo's (the scary red one)
shoyu:  Aloha brand ("Hello?  Watchu tinking, using Kikkoman...?")
sugar:  white, but can also use "anykine", including honey
ginger:  gotta be fresh
garlic: for this powder is more betta unless you really careful about not burning it
water: a few splashes
sesame oil: splash
green onion: optional, but good

Regarding the above: everything is "to taste".  Enjoy with side nori & rice!

I found out yesterday that they are opening a Puka Dog in Waikiki. Puka Dog is in Kauai and was on one of the Food Networks top ten hot dog stands. Don't know when they're opening, but they are hiring right now if anyone is interested.

although rather expensive for a hot dog, at $11, if your hungry try the hot dogs at any of the sheratons in waikiki.  they all served the same kine.  i thought the one at the sheraton waikiki by the pool was the best though.

Best hot dog of my island life was from the cart in front of Moose's on Tuesday....smart hot dog lady, very smart....drunk people love hot dogs...and this one tasted just like a costco polish sausage...I added cheese to it for more cholesterol yummyness and I believe you can add bacon too...I declined the bacon.

anyways, I probably paid two or three times what a costco dog costs and I didn't get a soda, but it was delicious!

I was at Straub on Ward and King this past week.  In the cafeteria they had what looked like REAL footlong hotdogs for their "Hot Dog Bar", plain for $2.95, and with any toppings that were out for $4.95.

Toppings available: saurkraut, chili, onion, ketchup (mustard was available in packets where you get your fork/knife after you pay), cheddar cheese, jalepenos.  I feel like I missed something.

I heard several people saying, "They're so long, it's almost scary", "Wow", etc.

I can't believe they would serve this stuff at a hospital.  However, you'd better bet I bought me one.  I was able to eat 2/3.  It was a freaking good, quality hot dog.  Go Straub.

Hank's is great.  Not as good as Top Dog in Berkeley - which is my all time favorite - but their dogs are crunchy and snappy.  Make sure you get the Chicago style - with all the pickles, onions and tomatoes on it.  Their onion rings are awesome too.  Honolulu really needed this.

I found another, really good hot dog:

Diamond Head Market & Grill on Monsarrat (not to be confused with Diamond Head Grill, the restaurant) now serves hot dogs for $4.  They are thicker than your usual, and served with grilled onions and bell peppers on a wheat bun.  They have relish, ketchup, and mustard if you want to add those (I did).  SUPER yummy!  And I felt slightly less guilty because it was on a wheat bun.

What was the name of the hot dog stand that used to be in front of Comp USA on Ala Moana? It was an all-beef hot dog with a really good garlic sauce. The fixin's were very mainland- bright green relish (Chicago Style), red onions, celery salt and a pickle. I loved their hot dogs. Kinda pricey, but I thought the best on the island. Any Yelper remember?

I tried the Andadog at the Okinawan festival.  It was half or one third of a cheapy hotdog (but not the red one) surrounded by what's supposed to be andagi batter, but is really not dense enough to be andagi.  It was like a corn dog without the cornmeal.  I did like the novelty of it though, and who doesn't like food on a stick?!  They should serve it with teriyaki sauce.  MMMmmm...

Also tried the Okidog.  I guess it's supposed to be Okinawan in that it has a shoyu pork accompaniment.  The Okidog looked scary to me, and I had no desire to try it, but it turned out to be freaking good.  The hubby and I are going to experiment and try to make it ourselves.  It's a hot dog with chili, shredded lettuce, and shoyu pork all in a flour tortilla.

What about that hot dog stand that used to set up outside of The Living Room - Fisherman's Wharf club nights?? They had amazing garlic sauce - you could top that dog with mushrooms and other sides.  Was this the same as Jeff and Jeremy mentioned above? i used to dream of this food! but i'm sure the alcohol helped, too. Anyone remember this one?? I wanna find out where else they sell and go there everyday. :D

What was I thinking when I decided to be a fish-atarian? I've given up meat, chicken, pork. Done it for a week now. All this talk about hot dogs led me to foodland, where I bought a tofudog. It tasted like shit. Anybody know anywhere that serves up a veggie-tarian  dog that tastes good?
