New bar this, new club that. It seems as though everyone has a "I've heard they're gonna build" story to share about the ever-growing and soon to be saturated Washington Corridor. Anyone have any leads to share? Restaurants, bars, coffee shop ... any retail? Hummm. Here are mine:

Bronx Bar ... hurry it up!
Rain ... or whichever creative way they're spelling it. MOrgan C tipped me off to that, and finally spotted the construction.
Read in Houston Mag that Albert R/owner of Project boutique is opening up a jean bar of some sort.

Who's got more gossip on the soon to be sports bar Pig Stand? And the owners of Kobain/Whiskey Creek working on a project.

    What used to be Vivians, which is just west of Durham before TC Jester is being converted into something.  They have torn out the entire east wall and making a patio.

    I didn't know Daily Grind closed, and it's rumored to be a late night taco shop themed around Mexican wrestlers. Oh. Mah. Gah.
    And next to the Corkscrew is more talks about another taco shop.

    I mean, why can't anyone open something after real names, you know?  Like "Stinky Pete's Pub"  or "Franks Brew House" or something. These clubs always try to be more clever than they are and they end up sounding stupid.

    Chris, your pub names vs. trendy club names reminds me of street names.  In Houston's city center they're gritty old style monikers like Travis, McKinney, Lousiana, W. Gray.  In the 'burbs it's stuff like Cedar Canyon Way and Dripping Falls Circle, though there are no canyons or falls to be found.  It's like they're trying toooo hard to be creative.  I shit you not, I have family that lives on Unicorn's Horn Lane in Katy.

    Gimme simplicity!

    Just off Washington on Durham is a brand new place called RARE.  Don't know if its open or what it is.  THE LOT looks like it is open or will be this weekend.  Construction outside yesterday afternoon but there was sign lit up in the window.  Looks like the most promising new bar, neighborhoody.

    DADDY'S MONEY (next to Pearl) appears to be held up by TABC due to there being a school or church somewhere.  Shame.

    THE MANOR is that Gawd Awful looking yellow/stone spray painted building near El Rey.  Looks like an Army-Navy Surplus store.  It is supposed to be an Ultra-Lounge I think, but it looks like total crap and there are no windows.  

    There are a few more spots in the demo stage of construction.

    @ Seth: I bought my home just a few blocks south of Pearl a year or so back.  When I moved in I could walk to the Social, Chaise or Pearl during renovations.  A year and a half later, add RAIA'S, BLUE LABEL, PORCH SWING, KOBAINS, THE LOT, 0-REIGN LOUNGE + 126 more hopefully in the next year!

    To clear up all the rumors:

    1. "The Lot" next to Pearl Bar will be open at 2 pm this Thursday.
    2; The Daily Grind that closed down, the owners of Cork Screw has taken over the place, and is now currently being remodeled.
    3. Owners of Whiskey Creek is opening a bar right next to "Busty La Rue" which is also right next to Pub Fiction new place on Washington. 5102 Washington Houston TX 77007
    4.  That Gawd awful yellow/stone place your talking about is called "Zen Ultra Lounge"
    5. Owner of Pandora is opening another one down the street. Its that purple buidling. DBA is called "Blue Book" don't think they have a name yet.
    6. That really big one is called "Reign Lounge" One of the owners name is Luis. Very nice guy.  
    7. The old Pig stand is going to be called "Sawyer Sports Bar"
    8. "Rare Bar" is opening soon on Durham & Washington

    All in all there's about 16 bars/club so far wanting to open on Washington, but we'll see how many of them really open. These are all the ones I have time to confrm.

    Minh,

    Zen Ultra Lounge, is renamed The Manor due to sounding too much like Citi-zen across the street.  

    Reign, is actually O-Reign (look closely at the sign) due to there already being a Reign in NYC or somewhere and they claimed infringement.

    All of the above is officially rumor mill only.  I am very glad to hear about those other places and especially Daily Grind being taken over.  

    I am going to be at The Lot tomorrow at ....let's hope....5-6pm if they are going to be open.

    I'm sure this will start up an uproar... but honestly, what's with the Washington area? Why? I think that area blows.

    I remember working at ENVY like 2 years ago and everyone was like, "Washington will be the next Midtown, Washington will be the next Midtown..." But I can't even stand going into Midtown! ...and now Washington is super annoying as well.

    I'll stick to my Montrose/Rice Village hangouts. You guys can keep this "Washington Corridor" nonsense. ;-)

    Here's one.  The Lot is open.  That's right, already open.  I went there after the UYE.  To me, it's just a bar.  Really has no character.  The patio is concrete with tables and chairs.  

    There was a small delay with Daddy's Money, but I think the church thing was just a small bump in the road.

    Rare Lounge will bea restaurand and club.  Does anyone remember Licor Lounge and Thursdays at The Gatsby when they were at their peak?  Well, the guys who brought you those nights will get their chance with Rare.  I wish them the best.
