I am interested in takin some belly dance classes near Hayward, less than 30 minutes away.  Preferably a class for beginners and a class that is starting soon or allows you to start anytime.  And of course good prices =) let me know if any of you have suggestions!

Leea Aziz in Walnut Creek has ongoing classes, you can start anytime.

She is a really good teacher for beginners, been dancing since the 1970s, teaching since the 80s.
She also has a shop attached to her studio.

Also check http://www.shira.net , she has a huge dancer directory you can search by region.

http://www.gileserpent... is a magazine, but locally based.

Good luck!

Highly recommend Tatseena at the San Leandro Community center. Tatseena is the featured dancer on Saturdays at Tanjia (Moroccan restaurant in the Temescal), and she hosts a big belly dance festival every year.

Definately check out Tatseena in San Leandro, she's at the Marina Community Center there & has a beginner class on Wednesday nights, she is fabulous and has been teaching for a long time (unlike some newer " watch-the-video-then-tea ch" peeps). www.tatseena.com

check the adult classes your community offers... i took belly dancing at the milpitas senior center, and it was pretty cheap too - i think it was $65 for residents - for 7-12 sessions?  =)

oh, to cut the enrollment price down - try buying your own zils, and belt/sash w/ dangly things on them... i bought my zils from my instructor, and they're so... blah.  i was hoping to buy some with engraved designs on them, but after blowing $20 on them, i no longer had the urge to spend more on stupid finger cymbals...

Cynthia... i've heard wonders about frederique as well... too bad its all the way in oakland and kinda' pricey...

True - her prices have gone up a bit from last year, but I don't consider them pricey at all.  It's about the same for yoga classes ...

* Drop in = $15
* 5 Class Card = $65
* 10 Class Card = $120

Frederique is such an awesome and inspiring dancer, for sure!

Rachelle (Ambrosia) with Goddess Fruit Belly Dance teaches beginning belly dance through Chabot Extended Ed in Hayward, and she teaches Intermediate at Ballet Petit in Hayward. I've been with Goddess Fruit for several years now; Rachelle charges about $80 for ten classes. Chabot Extended Ed is about as cheap.

Fremont Continuing Ed (adult school) also offers beginning and intermediate belly dance classes.

You can try Lunatic Fringe in Sunnyvale as well. They're a fabulous store that hosts classes taught by three or four different teachers most days of the week.

All of these sites Google well.
