Whole Foods? Gelson's? What are your go-to items?
I can't be bothered to cook anymore.

Smivey .. says:
I was say definitely Whole Foods. There's something weird about Gelson's stuff. On a side note: Whole Foods in El Segundo opens this Thursday! Maybe I'm too excited about that.

Shawnee "I own the eggstractor" H. says:
Whole Foods - Sesame Tofu, Kale Salad with Cranberries, caramelized squash and tuna salad.
Turkey cutlets were a bit dry the other night but the Salmon is really good.
The store in Glendale has 3 or 4 "restaurants" and a salad bar.

Smivey .. says:
I *would* say. Bleh.

Some people like the prepared foods at Bristol Farms. Again, I think it's kind of weird. For one thing, their sushi rolls are too big. Traditionally, you're supposed to be be able to fit the whole thing in your mouth in one bite. Whose mouth did they design those for?

carissa f. says:
smivey - i agree about gelson's. i picked up this pesto pasta salad last night and i just kept thinking, "this is weird." also - their bbq rotisserie chicken is YUCK!
on the plus side - their desserts are really good.

Meg C. says:
I think bristol farms prepared food is ok, I second Whole foods though, their stuff is good but pricey. I like Trader Joes but of course some of their stuff is hit or miss.

Ahhhh that's the meet market Whole Foods, Pavel. Too far for me now.

check out Dream Dinners.

Some very simple cooking instructions involved but it's totally quick. This is much better since the food is preserved by freezing and not by chemicals and you can keep it low sodium as well.

Joan "of Yelp" S. says:
I live on prepared foods. I get a lot of take outs from Green Temple in Redondo, on my way there now in fact. But...I also have my favorite items from Whole Foods, Gelson's (edamame salad is one).....and Bristol Farms (wild caught salmon salad for example).
Smivey, I can't wait for the opening of WF in ES. The Redondo store is so tiny. I usually go up PCH to the large WF in Torrance, but I think the ES store will be even better! WoooHooo!!

Frank K. says:
mmmm i miss green temple
the spot is decent too...cute waitress too...although she gave me a really nasty cookie last time. it was free though oh well

Smivey .. says:
I was just at the Green Temple a few weekends ago. That sauce they put on the veggies is like crack.
04/25/2007
Joan "of Yelp" S. says:
I don't like The Spot. I just had a veggie burger from Green Temple. I got lentil soup to save for breakfast tomorrow.
Smivey, everybody loves the sauce......served hot, it's sauce - served cold, it's their salad dressing. They do sell it in large containers to take home. They will even give you the recipe if you want to make it yourself.

Cheri "FT wingless" A. says:
Smivey I am excited to about the new Whole Foods. It has 4 sit down places
1 wine and tapas bar
2 Smokehouse and Seafood Grill
3 Churrascaria and Taqueria
4 Asian Express
04/25/2007
Smivey .. says:
Cool, Cheri. Where are you getting your info from? It sounds like the one on 3rd and Fairfax, which would be amazing.
04/25/2007
Cheri "FT wingless" A. says:
There is a full page ad with the layout of the store and all of the info.

Rodge R. says:
Awww. Sounds good Cheri.
I might have to make a special trip to El Segundo for that. Going to Torrance for Whole Foods doesn't sit well with me.

reuben r. says:
Trader Joe's all the way, just pop the stuff in the oven and 20 minutes later, you're good to go!

brian s. says:
What are the coordinates of this new Whole Foods in El Segundo? I pretend to work in El Segundo and I'm dying for something new for lunch! Whole Foods website is no help.
cross streets will work too.
04/25/2007
Smivey .. says:
Rosecrans and Sepulveda, across the street from Frys.
04/25/2007
brian s. says:
that's right around the corner. thanks Smivey
04/25/2007
Rodge R. says:
God, as if Rosecrans wasn't already crowded enough. I didn't think that traffic could get any worse.
04/25/2007
Smivey .. says:
Right now, you can only enter from Sepulveda.
04/25/2007
Joan "of Yelp" S. says:
Yeah, Rodger, many people agree they should not have put that shopping center there at an already crazy-crowded intersection. When I go there, it will be in the morning, after rush hour.

For the Whole Foods fans, here's the restaurant that wholesales to Whole Foods. If you like Whole Foods you'll love Salads Galore.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I think they have three locations. Granada Hills, Encino, and Brentwood. I could be wrong.
06/08/2007
ruth l. says:
Hey, Shin, where'd you get that? Most Whole Foods make their salads on site. Some of the items do come from the regional commissary, which is in SFV.
I used to work for Whole Foods, so, I for some reason feel loyal & inclined to correct this wrong information.
