I'm coming back to LA for a short break (in college out of state) and I'd like to go out to dinner with my bf at some point. Only problem is, we're both mid-diet, and I'm trying to figure out someplace to go that won't be butter/sugar heavy but falls outside the range of "just get the salad." Can you help me, people of yelp?

Diana G. says:
well, I live in Encino, he lives in Covina and works in Hollywood. I guess anywhere easily drivable from those locations?

Well, I don't know anything about Encino & Covina but I LOVE a place in Los Alamitos called The Original Fish Co. You will not be dissappointed. (Freeway close). Check the Yelp reviews.

I just noticed someone gave them a bad review because the rice was steamed and there is no oil or lard in the beans. How idiotic.

Diana G. says:
wow, this looks really good.
it's a long drive, but it's definitely worth thinking about. Thanks.

Also does anyone have any thoughts on The Vegan Plate?
I figured I'd try to see if there were any good sounding vegan places near me, and this sounded interesting.

Joan "of Yelp" S. says:
Also, look to the right of the reviews for Vegan Plate, under "people who viewed this, also viewed"....
there are a bunch of other healthy restaurants in your area listed.

Japanese food is the best for this. For dinner just now, I had a salmon skin salad, chilled tofu, a toro hand roll, and assorted seaweed. I'd guess this was about 600 calories total and cost about $40. You have to learn to like it if you don't already.

Diana G. says:
I haven't really eaten much Japanese food outside of sushi, but it'd be nice to try more. Thanks

Cafe Brasil has pretty healthy fare.
Grilled meats and fish, low fat delicious black beans, yummy veggies, fresh salads....

If you are looking for a place near Hollywood Real Food Daily is very delicious. They have many menu choices, lots of beverage choices including organic beer and wines and lots of fruity non-alcoholic concoctions. I have never been disappointed here.
