I try to postpone as long as possible, and sometimes it's just not feasible to, say, get up and use the restroom to do it, and some people just *can't* do it quietly. It doesn't work that way.
I also understand taking a look -- if you're trying to figure out whether you're just having bad allergies, getting a cold, or developing a sinus infection, it helps to inspect. It is gross to do it obviously in public, though.
Sorry for being gross, but understand that those people are suffering and probably feel pretty self-conscious about needing to do it in the first place, too. Should people just not go out during allergy season?
