Hello, I have am taking a class at Digame in Logan Square and am considering taking Spanish classes at a different center.  Has anyone taking classes at Spanish Circle, Language Loop, Cervantes Institute or the Univ of Mexico here in Chicago?  What did you think?  I am interested in the teaching style, teachers (native or second language speakers) and students taking the class.  Thanks for any thoughts and opinions.

Jessica

    *bump*

anyone have any suggestions as to good classes for Espanol?  more native speaking the better, I would think -- text book Spanish doesn't strike me as being too helpful.

I'm interested primarily for work purposes.

Any help -- would be appreciated

I've picked up a LITTLE over the years, but not enough to suitably hold any sort of conversation ...but my Espanol is  STILL muy picino

(the tilde doesn't show up over the 'n' here)

    I know Dios mio!!

I know one phrase that will get my ass kicked (thanks to my brother who didn't tell me WHAT he was teaching me to say -- and me dumb enough to keep trying til I got it 'just right'....THEN he announces: "now, you can never say it around anyone -- or they'll kick your ass. finally - he told me what he taught me to say - I nearly kicked HIS ass....but, he got me, I had to give him that, he got me good!)

Text book Spanish is necessary if you're really committed to learning the language. It may not sound much like what the people on the Spanish channels are saying, but the same could probably be said for English if you were learning it as a second language. Spanish has a lot of verb conjugations, so it's harder than just remembering the definitions of words.

Go to the Chicago Public Library (edgewater branch by the dominicks off of glenlake and broadway) check out the big spanish worksheet book.  Its seriously the best damned spanish review book ever.  it helped me remember the stuff i learned, and helped me to refine.  But I haven't looked at it in a while.  Copy the entire book...
