I'm going to be in Boston all next week for work and I'm looking for some cool, off the beaten path type stuff to do/see/eat/shop. I'll be staying at the Marriott Copley Place and know my way around a bit. I've been to all the classic, touristy stuff so I'd like to do some more local type stuff. I'll be in Cambridge the end of the week so ideas there are great too.

Any particular kind of food you like? Interested in bars? Clubs? Museums? Historical sites? Live music? Outdoor activities? Locals here do a lot of things. :-)

My fave "off the beaten path" museum is the MIT museum in Central Square so that could be worked into your Cambridge trip. You could grab some food at Green St., coffee at the 1369, or a burger and a beer at Miracle of Science or River Gods before/after.

Take the T to Davis Sq and go visit the brand new Museum of Bad Art at the Somerville Theatre.

Have you been to the South End yet? If you are staying at Copley, you are just around the street from the South End of Boston that lots plaes most tourists pass over. Wallys Jazz is very off the beaten path and a cool place to grab a beer and watch some live Jazz. If you are with a few friends grabbing dinner at Addis Red Sea is fun! The place fills quick so make reservations, but eating Ethiopian food with your hands is fun and not typical Boston :) http://www.yelp.com/bi...

If you tell us particular stuff you are interested in, I am sure we can give you ever more suggestions!

Harvard Museums.  There's some cool shit there.  Free on Saturdays before noon, I think.

Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum.  Mentioned on a zillion threads.
