Hello chitterlings!
I been west some time and found myself smack in the middle of sushi-dom. I am the biggest sushi snot i know, having consumed more types of fish than most sushi chefs.
Where's my dope fish? Please don't mention the words 'spicy' or 'roll' to me.
That is all.

Good luck, the east coast is not sushi heaven like the west coast is. That said, there are a couple of edible options. I like Kawasaki in Fells Point and and San Sushi in Towson - they are both good, but you definitely need to leave your west coast sushi expectations behind. I have the same problem with Mexican in Baltimore. There are some good places here, but I don't eat Mexican for at least a month after returning from a trip to Texas, it is just too soon for comparison and too disappointing. Oh, there is another good one by Whole Foods at Harbor east, but I can't remember the name right now, but you can't miss it, it is just a few doors down from WF.

Minato in Mt. Vernon (on Charles Street), is now my favorite place for sushi in the city. The decor is very beautiful and the front room feels very Miami or NYC. The back room is more cozy with exposed brick, and also very nice. Standard rolls are served along with some that are more creative and include fruit. It's interesting when you consider that fish and some fruit have similar textures, such as mango.
They have replaced Kawasaki as my sushi go-to. I (along with friends) am now banning Kawasaki after a scandal where the management was found to steal the tips of employees who were illegal immigrants. Here's the link if you are interested to learn more or don't want to take the above as gossip: http://www.baltimoresu...
If you head up to the county, Sushi Hanna is a great place to check out. Although I must admit, the tempura'd ice cream is my favorite thing on the menu (but the fish is really good, too! I promise!).

Remembered the name of the place by WF - Chui's - really fresh fish! Large pieces of sashimi and some nice rolls as well.

Go a bit more to the East, to Main St. Annapolis for a visit to Joss. Really fantastic. Of if you know enough about it to do your own, head up to Jessup and the Fish and Seafood Market- the place where all the local sushi chefs get their fish. Stop by one of the many, many Korean grocers in Ellicott City for all the other stuff and you are good to go.

Ah, true. The H Mart on the corner of Route 40 and Rolling Road is a hidden gem for fresh fish and amazing produce, much of which I can't identify.

If you're ever out in Ocean City (yeah, I know Ocean effin' City), there is actually a really good sushi place there whose name escapes me at the moment. Their sushi chef is considered the 4th best sushi chef in the US (by whose standards, my friend never clarified). Be that as it may, I have tasted the product and it's definitely good, good, good though sticks mainly to classic sushi fare with some deviations here and there (it is a tourist crowd after all). It's tucked away in a stripmall--which is all I can remember at the moment. Will update with a name soon as I find out!

Try Mokoto. For something a little more low-key, try Temari Japanese Cafe in Rockville. These are the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in DC. They're restaurants rather than the sit at the bar and order as you go from the chef type of places, though.

Sushi Sono in Columbia. How no one on here has reviewed it yet, I don't know. I would write one but I'm lazy. Just go there.

Edo, next to Padonia Station in Cockeysville, is pretty good.
And for all you East Coast haters, imagine living somewhere with NO sushi at all and the only Mexican is Don Pablos! It could be so much worse.

Amen to no spicy or rolls. Go to Sushi Sono in Columbia. They have extremely generous cuts of fish and their fatty tuna is to die for. Makoto (someone up there spelled it wrong) on MacArthur Blvd in DC is the best Japanese restaurant in the region. Someone else mentioned Temari in Rockville, which does have good Japanese food, but their sushi isn't all that special. I highly recommend Sushi Sono or Makoto. You can't go wrong.

Unfortunately you're not gonna find any mind blowing Sushi around these parts. I've come to the conclusion that Baltimore is a barron wasteland for Sushi. Sushi Hana in Towson really only does rolls and Matsuri downtown in Federal Hill is just average.
However, I will say this. Sushi Yasuda in Manhattan is, in my opinion, the best sushi restaurant in the country, bar none. I'd put it up with any of the great west coast sushi spots without hesitation.
