Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
So yes, this is probably a little bit of shameless self-promotion, but anyway...
This weekend and next please come check out the Cultural Survival Winter Bazaars. I used to intern with CS and am really passionate about the work that they do--the organization itself is amazing.
This is a great place to find holiday presents and shop with a conscience. Listen to performers from around the world, eat some wonderful food, and interact with indigenous artisans from all over. 40% of the proceeds goes towards helping CS continue their work with indigenous organizations around the world.
For more info (dates, times, venues, parking), see:
http://www.cs.org/even...
Hope to see you all there! (look for me behind the cash registers).

Rob C. says:
Damn hippies.
Taking all my money.

Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
we're not hippies--we're activists.
and I don't think bearded, bike-riding, vegans are allowed to call people hippies ;).

Rob C. says:
Are you inferring that I'm not a beautiful, unique snowflake?

Dachary "Raspberry" C. says:
See, if only I weren't broke right now. Stupid IRS. (Long story.) But maybe I can hit the one at the Hynes Convention Center coming up next weekend. Thanks for the info, Allix - it definitely looks worth checking out!

Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
oh hooray! i'm really glad everyone's into this. If you're short on cash, please stop by anyway to check out the performances, food, and information tables--if anything you'll meet some really cool people and possibly even come out of the event with a new connection, volunteer opportunity, etc...
and Rob C., I hate to be the one to inform you, but "you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake, you are the same decaying organic matter as everything else...We are all part of the same compost heap."

Dave "The Real DMC" M. says:
Allix, this is awesome. This is the perfect place for me to buy something my lil sister! Thanks!

Also planning to go... and I just sent an email around to everyone I know too, so hopefully they'll come out! See you there....

Saw an ad for this on the T today, so it must be real. ;) My schedule is uber-packed this weekend but I'll try to make it next weekend.

Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
*bump.
Ok, I'm a jerk, but last weekend's event was really successful and I'd love to see some more yelpers at Hynes next week. (PS--thanks to those of you who stopped by Harvard).

Jocelyn "I am not Melissa A.!" C. says:
I stopped by!!! I got some shea butter for my Mom as part of her Xmas gift. :)
I actually saw you at the registers, but I didn't want to be all crazy Yelper stalker-ish scary, so I remained silent while the girl next to you rang me up. Hahahaha... I'm silly, I know.
12/05/2006
Rob C. says:
I saw you at the registers, too. You may remember me as the guy who KICKED YOU IN THE STOMACH.
Okay, so that was a lie.

Dan P. says:
uhhh, Manowar is POWER Metal, not Death Metal. Geez, get it right.
12/05/2006
Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
Rob, you did kick me in the stomach. admit it...if you don't power metal dan might kick your ass for being a wuss.
Jocelyn, I'm glad you had fun :).
12/05/2006
Dan P. says:
that's right!
12/05/2006
Rob C. says:
Whatever, broguy. I have Venom and Napalm Death in my CD player right now, both of which kick Manowar's ass. Ergo, I ain't skeered.
12/06/2006
Dan P. says:
First, no one can kick Manowar's ass. It seems that you are unfamiliar with their potency.
Second, other bands play, Manowar kill.
Third, my Napalm Death and Venom TAPES are fully prepared to take on your thrash n00b cds.
12/06/2006
Rob C. says:
Ouch. You got me there.
I guess a young Padawan should know better.
12/06/2006
Dan P. says:
I think that came off a little harsher than I intended. It's never too late to get into thrash! Snobbery is better left to the hardcore scene.
12/06/2006
Rob C. says:
Oh, I'm not offended. I knew that was a fight I couldn't win. After I complete my Prince discography, metal's my next genre to assault properly.
Doesn't matter anyway. As the hardcore kids know, any band that puts out anything beyond a 7" sucks.
12/06/2006
Dan P. says:
Which is why my old hardcore band rules. We put out three 7"s and a split 7" and naught else. Yeah! Scene points!

Allix "granny sunglasses" T. says:
ok. I am so a jerk, but I'm *wicked excited* for this weekend's event. I really hope a lot of yelpers brave the cold and come say "hi."
and with that, I will graciously let this little thread die...if it so chooses.
