See All Lists1. Grainger Engineering Library
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is known for having one of the biggest university library systems in the world. Grainger Engineering Library is UIUC's cornerstone library.
Grainger is filled with thousands of science and engineering…More »
2. Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science
Easily my favorite building on campus. During spring semester final exams, while most engineering students are in Grainger Engineering Library, I studied math on the balconies of Siebel Center.
3. Illini Apple Center
This is technically an "Authorized Campus Store" as opposed to an Apple-owned store. So, this location is a joint operation between UIUC and Apple.
Even so, the service is exactly the same as you would find in an Apple-owned store. This store has a…More »
4. Activities and Recreation Center - ARC
The ARC was brand new for the 2008-2009 school year. It features two swimming pools (indoor and outdoor), two entire floors of weightlifting equipment, four gyms, and two floors of cardio equipment.
I work out at the ARC 3-4 days a week, and I…More »
5. Bevande Coffee
This Bevande is conveniently located inside Siebel Center at UIUC. The coffee is great, but stick with coffee-based drinks. Lattes, espresso, and cappuccino is all delicious.
However, the smoothies are just frozen strawberries and orange juice…More »
6. T.I.S. College Bookstore
At the beginning of every semester, I compare prices among the three campus bookstores. T.I.S. is almost always the cheapest of the three stores.
However, I can usually find all my books for much cheaper on http://Amazon.com. My Discrete Math book…More »
7. Papa Del's Pizza
Best pizza ever. This place puts Chicago and New York pizza to shame.
That said, the service is slow and clumsy. If you plan to eat in the restaurant, call your order in about 25 minutes before you arrive.
8. Zorba's Restaurant
I usually eat healthy, well-balanced meals. However, I occasionally indulge with something less health-friendly. When I indulge, I go to Zorba's. I order an enormous gyro with mountains of onion, tomato, cucumber sauce, and feta cheese. A Zorba's…More »
9. Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District
Urbana, IL 61802
(217) 384-8188
MTD is a great way to get to class when the weather is nasty. However, the buses are often late, so be sure to choose a bus that arrives to your destination a few minutes early. At least the MTD buses are free to students.
10. Kofusion
KoFusion is easily the best sushi in Champaign-Urbana. They have a wide selection of Japanese food. Also, on Sunday and Monday, they offer 10 different rolls for $1 each. It's absolutely glorious.
The atmosphere is also one of the best in…More »
11. Durst Cycle & Fitness
Durst is insanely expensive, but they do carry top-shelf bike brands.
My recommendation: go to Durst, find the bike you like, and take it for a test ride. Then, buy the bike online for hundreds less.
12. Pekara Bakery and Bistro
Pekara has decent coffee and reasonably fast wifi. The crepes are tasty but inconstant. Depending which chef makes the crepes, they can range from soggy to burnt. Still, Pekara can be a nice retreat from the crowded, noisy campus.
13. Aroma Cafe
Aroma has delicious coffee and comfortable seating. There are big, overstuffed chairs inside. In back, there is a pretty patio with tables in chairs. Aroma's patio is adjacent to Pekara Bistro's patio. So, you can get a latte from Aroma, a crepe…More »
14. Best Buy
Champaign, IL 61822
(217) 352-8883
I had a motherboard issue with a computer I bought (with a warranty) from Best Buy. I went to the Champaign store, and they sent my computer to their central office for repairs. It came back over a month later, yet no repairs were completed. Best…More »
15. Espresso Royale
Nice atmosphere, and right next to the beautiful Krannert center. Also, they have $2 lattes on Wednesdays!
16. Geovantis
Geovanti's is the best place on campus to get your deep fried grease fix. Don't expect health food or vegetarian options, because the very blue-collar cooks throw everything in the deep fryer.
This place bills itself as a "bar and grill," but the…More »
17. Bevande Coffee
Delicious coffee, reasonable prices. They have an other location in Siebel Center.
18. Bromley Hall
Champaign, IL 61820
(217) 384-6100
I lived here my freshman year, and it definitely wasn't my favorite. The rooms are big, so at first Bromley felt like a good deal.
However, I quickly learned that the walls are thin (probably just two sheets of drywall), and you can hear *every*…More »
