- What/Why:
- Hey Hiking Pacers!
Since we now have a number of newcomers as well as seasoned hikers, we are going to divide the next few hikes into two groups; one beginner hike and one more intermediate level hike. The meeting location and starting point is the same for both groups. Hopefully we can accomodate more members! Can't wait to see everyone on Sunday!!
Hike #6 - 09/12/10
Have you all cooled off enough from last week's heat wave and VERY HOT hike? Admittedly, it was a more challenging hike than expected with the added challenge of the heat. If you have been sticking with the program since Hike #1, it would be more of an "intermediate" level hike than a beginner. If you had a tough time, don't fear we have an easier option for you this week at Chantry Flats.
Beginner Hike: Sturtevant Falls
It's a leisurely 3.7 mile hike with just 700 feet elevation gain/loss. It is complete with babbling brooks and a nice waterfall.
Intermediate Hike: Hoegees Camp Loop
This is a relatively flat 5.1 mile hike with roughly 1100 feet elevation gain/loss. It's mostly shaded with a nice stream.
***Adventure Pass REQUIRED for this hike for EACH car so try to carpool and plan ahead by picking up a day pass ($5) or an annual pass ($30)***
Meeting Location: Take the Santa Anita exit from the 210 toward Arcadia. Stay on the Santa Anita Canyon Road traveling North until it ends at Chantry Flats. We will meet at the bathroom like last time at the top of the paved trailhead near the entrance to the parking lot.
Again, carpooling and early arrival is highly recommended as this place gets super busy even at 6 am. In fact, last time we came at 6:45 and snagged the last parking spot in the parking lot while many people had to park down the road and walk to the trailhead. I recommend parking at the REI parking lot, which is just a few miles from the location, and driving up in one car if you decide to carpool.
