Come see Footlight Award Winner NICK DeSANTIS stars as Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a soft-spoken German transvestite who survived the cruel regimes of both the Nazis and the Communists. Based on interviews with the real Charlotte von Mahlsdorf by playwright Doug Wright (Quills), this one-man show features harrowing tales of endurance and survival that are nothing short of breathtaking. But are they true? And does it matter? This Pulitzer-Prize winning drama, which premiered in a theater about the size of ArtsWest, went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play of the Year.
Update - I thought I should add a little update about the show. This event is for the preview show, the show actually opens Wednesday night May 14th and runs Wednesdays through Sundays from May 14th to June 1st. Ticket prices for the non-preview show range from $29.00 (regular price) to $10.00 (under 25) so if you can't make the preview you have other chances to see a soft-spoken German transvestite on stage.
It's hard for me to get to West Seattle this early on a weekday, otherwise I'd be in. Let me know how it is, I might check out one of the other performances.
