Well, another low for Yelp, I'm afraid. They certainly must be aware that they're ripping this off directly from the East Bay nonprofit, http://OaklandUnwrappe..., which goes by Oakland Unwrapped! in their marketing. Now they throw amazing parties that truly help support local, independent businesses and artists. What do you do for small businesses, again, Yelp?

Yep, my reference was to Yelp's proven history of extorting small businesses. I did read the description (to my horror) and do realize this event is all local businesses (which is the Oakland Unwrapped! business/event model).

Jody I totally feel you on the issue or the similarities of the 2 events- I can't really comment on that, but I will say, I have heard of Oakland Unwrapped and as a small business supporter, resident of Oakland- I would suggest that someone lists the event on the Yelp Events page. I will, if no one else wants to!  

Hopefully you don't harbor that much resentment that someone in the organization is not willing to use Yelp as tool for their own benefit! : )

I looked up the Local 2 complaints to see what we were walking into, and I'm still not sure what they want. More pay, better benefits, not getting laid off? I think that's like 90% of the country right now....

It's almost every unionized hotel in San Francisco, for what it's worth (not just the Westin)... and from what I've learned, there are no strikes planned at all until March of 2010 (if they even happen at all). I was at the Westin earlier this morning, and it was business as usual.

I hope they'll have good scotch.

Hello fellow Yelpers!... I'm going to this holiday party and would like to know if the attire is formal or informal or whatever you have in your closet! Seriously, this is my first time going and want to look the part!

It's whatever you want to to wear ... but looking at the pictures from last year, everyone seems to have dressed up -- either in formal evening wear or a-night-out-in-the-city party wear.

Well that makes at least 3 tuxes. Anybody else? EVERYONE looks good in a tux!

The question remains: Black dinner jacket, or the white dinner jacket? I'm leaning towards white with red accessories, to be seasonal.

They'd have to be more advanced than the usual paper checklist to do this.  Otherwise, your one RSVP could be used at each entrance, completely overwhelming the capacity of the building.

I'm in :)  First Yelp event, too.  Is there any links to last year's event?  I'd like to get an idea of what everyone wore to this event.

Get there early. We got there a little late and had to wait for about an hour last year. I'd say an hour or an hour and a half early, especially if they're letting in 2500 Yelpers!

I never got a second email saying with all the extra details but I'm assuming the first email and my many reviews will speak for itself.

As for clothing, wear what you want, some people were very formal others were not...check flickr for party pics last year.

I showed up about 15 mins early last year and waited about a 1/2 hour in line.  A lot of people cut.  It's pretty crazy.  You'll get in, when you get in. Just be prepared to stand in line for a bit.

Wear whatever you feel like wearing.  There will be dressy, fun, costumes, casual...

I am on the wait list but I received a reminder email about the event. Is that mean I got in or what? I need help, who can I check with?

Everyone should probably aim to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of their entry time - 7pm entry for Elites, 8pm entry for everyone else. Be sure to dress warmly! The line is likely to stretch outside pretty quickly.

Also, remember that the correct entrance is the door on Post Street (top of Union Square) and NOT the front door of the hotel facing the plaza.

if you're confirmed, you should get an email with subject line, "Yelp! Unwrapped Info and Reminder".

The first paragraph of the email should say "Just a friendly reminder about the big bash this Monday, Yelp Unwrapped! You're confirmed for the general portion of the event. Doors open at 8:00pm and the event ends at 10:00pm."

See you all there! Question, does anyone know if i can "switch" guests. My +1 changed her mind on me and my other friend is down to go. I been trying to email Yelp to see if i can just switch them. I was far beyond with I RSVP w/ my +1 many weeks ago. Shouldn't hurt if i bring a different face. This persons more of a yelper then my original quest.

i signed up fairly late but I got in! My friend took too long to sign up on Yelp, like Sunday night so I doubt he will be on the guest list. I don't think i'll go. I hate going to these things by myself. It's too late to find anyone else.
