SF Carnaval King & Queen Competition 2008 photo

The Carnaval San Francisco Bay Area Royalty for 2008 is Queen Kellita and King Everett. They danced as a couple before the judges and were sponsored by the Carnaval dance troupe Hot Pink Feathers. A month before at the de Young museum, they had won Contemporary/Fusion category of dance. Their spectacular performance was absolutely mesmerizing and is particularly special since it is truly a product of the syncretic growth of the SF multicultural arts community. What/Why:: The Kickoff event for Carnaval 2008. This competition and party will be taking over 1015 Folsom all night long. Any of you who attended the Oakland DYL at Conga Lounge, imagine that party X 20!

Oakland Carnaval Groups: Fogo Na Roupa, Mas Makers Massive, Caribbean Roots and Culture, Sistas with Style, Energia do Samba, Rara Tou Limen, Mo Love Steelband of Oakland, and East Bay Samba School.

A good friend of mine spends most of the year coordinating the planning behind each SF Carnaval. Let's show her and this event plenty of Yelp LOVE!

So you know...

this is the kick off that leads up to the Carnaval parade in May. This is the competition event for the King & Queen Spots that will take place at night this Sat.

The competition is at 8pm and then the after party is staying right there at 1015 Folsom. It will be crazy fun...

We really appreciate the hard work of the organizers, the backstage camraderie of our fellow competitors, and especially the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd.
