What/Why:
Okay, every one of you who is sad about the fate of the Barleycorn, here is your chance to try to save one of the coolest bars in town. They are even giving you chioces of which watering hole you want to go to. I know you are all alcoholics, I have seen you in action so drink up for a good cause!

Here is the info:

The week of September 24, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on a City Proclamation honoring the Barleycorn and calling for its preservation.  The proclamation will then be forwarded to Mayor Newsom, and we hope he will join in the chorus of support for the pub.

To help publicize the proclamation, and to celebrate the role that pubs play in the community and cultural life of the city, especially its neighborhoods, the Barleycorn Coalition is also sponsoring the 1st Annual Great San Francisco Pub Toast.  On Tuesday, September 25th, at 7:00 pm, patrons at pubs throughout downtown, Nob Hill and North Beach will pause and drink a toast to "John Barleycorn and the Great Pubs of San Francisco."

What You Can Do:

Volunteer to help publicize the toast.  We need volunteers to pass out handbills advertising the toast in front of the participating pubs.  Send an e-mail to info@savethebarleycorn... with "volunteer" in the subject line if you can help.

Here are the pubs currently participating in the Great Pub Toast:

The John Barleycorn
Spec's (Adler St. Museum)
The Irish Bank
Lefty O'Doul's
Shanghai Kelly's
The Holy Grail
Vesuvio
Fiddler's Green
Kell's
O'Reilly's
Foley's
Dave's
