Rilo Kiley is finally touring again. This time to promote their new cd, Under the Blacklight. They have been known to have strong, lengthy sets which are accented by cd quality vocals thanks mostly to Jenny Lewis.
Opening bands include The Bird and the Bee and Grand Ole Party.
Oct 12 is Read and Drink with Clowns AND my parents are in town, so I won't be seeing this show. Am I a philistine for thinking GOP is a little overrated though?
Christy, they are very very very highly rated. Overrated? I don't think so, but I've only seen them once. Her voice is very derivative of Karen O.'s, but I don't care. As for the BoH tickets, one kind gentleman posted a Yelp thread offering 3 free tickets, as his friends were unable to attend. Who says Yelp makes you go broke? Anyways, I probably won't be attending this. Rilo Kiley is good, but not $22 good. Especially not at Soma.
I think her voice is okay, but her vocal lines are borderline suck a lot of the time. Borderline, not actual suck. Mostly boring. BUT, I'm not saying they're not a good band--just not amazing. For a while everything I read was Grand Old Party this and that. A lot of that hype has died down recently.
well i think GOP is great. i've seen them a few times live and enjoyed every time.... and as far as the singer, kristin, i remember the GOP frenzy... & reading in citybeat... "she played violin as a tyke, then switched to choir, studying classical and jazz singing" and "she's been playing the drums for a year and a half" = respect.
I like Soma because I am 20 and that means no Casbah shows for me. Less than a year now. If the shows at Soma weren't so bloody warm I would probably like it a lot more.
