- What/Why:
- Vox Populi, a local artist collective and gallery space, will be hosting the Philadelphia Record Fair at the University of Pennsylvania's Rotunda on Sunday, March 30th. The venue, located at 4014 Walnut Street in the heart of University City, will have up to fifty vendors specializing in a broad variety of music, with an emphasis on collectible vinyl from the early 20th Century and on. Organizer Jamie Dillon promises that there will be a large selection of music at great prices.
"Philadelphia is the one of the best places in the country to find great records. Large collections continue to turn up all the time and the city has a whole culture of pickers, dealers and stores unlike any other city on the East Coast." says Dillon.
Tables are priced cheaply: $30 for one and $50 for two. Vox expects a large turnout of dealers large and small, specializing in everything from hard bop and northern soul to twee pop and hardcore.
For those interested in the best deals and finds, Jamie recommends arriving early. There will be special access for the first two hours with a $10 donation to Vox.
"I don't know about all you downloaders, but I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday than browsing through records and watching people fight over choice finds." Said Amy Adams, Vox Director. "This is part of our effort to generate funds for one of the city's and country's most well known artist collectives, Vox Populi. Events like these ensure that Vox remains free to the public and affordable for the artists to maintain and program."
Founded in 1988, Vox Populi is a nonprofit artist collective that supports the work of emerging artists with monthly exhibitions, gallery talks, performances and lectures. For nearly 20 years, Vox has played a unique role in the cultural life of Philadelphia by bringing our audience cutting-edge contemporary art and a diverse range of programming, while at the same time providing a supportive environment in which artists can experiment, take risks and gain valuable experience in launching their professional careers.
