"Remember the Taco Truck!"
Moderated by C. Thi Nguyen, Chow Digest Editor at Chowhound.com
Taco trucks are one of the cultural pillars of Los Angeles, but they could soon be a thing of the past. Led by Supervisor Gloria Molina, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors has passed new anti-taco truck regulations. If the trucks don't move every hour, they face $1000 in fines, and/or six months in jail. Our panel of writers, thinkers, and activists discusses the joys of the taco truck, their place in Los Angeles culture, and the politics behind the new regulations. Join Pulitzer Prize winning food writer Jonathan Gold, Barry Glassner, author of The Gospel of Food, Chris Rutherford, co-founder of saveourtacotrucks.org, and Chowhound.com's C. Thi Nguyen, as they discuss the future, and the history, of our taco trucks.

It's free and they always have free wine, cheese, crackers, and fruit afterwards and you get to approach and speak with the guest talkers
Go to the site and scroll UP. It's the third event. Follow the official website link and reserve your seats. I think this one is going to go quick.
I'm wondering how they are possibly going to enforce this law. There is a truck near my house (the tacos el pastor rock too) and it's parked in front of a certain jack in the box all the time. I'm glad it's there because it's a nice alternative and good for a quick bite to eat.
I think that the city council is trying to create a hostile environment to drive taco truck business away and not to fix anything. All I see this law doing is forcing taco truck owners to move around more which could create traffic problems. These trucks are peoples livelihoods. They won't go down without a fight. I'm ready to duck and cover when the Asada hits the fan.
Does the law stipulate how far they have to move? Could they move ten feet forward at 9, ten feet back at 10, ten feet forward at 11? If so, what is the effing point at all? The whole thing is really ridiculous.
I sent in my ticket request. I will have to see how practical it is getting down there from work on time but yeah, I'm kinda sorta in.
Damn it, we've lost judy! Jill, you push up from underneath and Summit, see if you can reach down and pull up. Just squeeze her between you and Sam until Thursday.
Jason, it was great. The panel talked about the cultural significance of the taco trucks and their current place in society. It talked about this new legislation and the incredibly negative impact it is already having on taco truck business. (there was no free wine btw but a taco truck instead handing out free eats and drinks).
