HI, thank you for posting this event. There are a lot of usually uninvolved people (like myself) out there who, regardless of sexual orientation are outraged about the yes on 8. It has not  easy to find info to go out there and join you on the protests. Saturday could be THE day to get lots of people because sadly on weekdays is almost impossible for many of us to attend.

More info on the official Facebook page here:  http://www.facebook.co...

Spread the word, tell your friends via Facebook (even if you can't go).  Bring your signs!

Easy transit access via the Red Line (Vermont/Sunset or Vermont/Santa Monica station) since parking will be extremely tough and we may block the intersection.

People are saying there may be up to 20,000 protesters!

very necessary to go! I'm not gay but I definitely believe in equality. I will try my very best to come out and support! I know several people who voted yes when they actually meant to vote no) can you believe that?? it makes me so angry to think that they didn't take the time to read the ballot properly!

I'll be there!  Below are the details.  also, you can check out the website http://www.answerla.org

we will fight this and we will win!

All progressive people who stand for equality and against discrimination should come out this Saturday in Los Angeles to protest the passage of California' Proposition 8. The well-funded right-wing campaign of bigotry is trying to push millions of LGBT people back into the closet. We can't let this happen. Everyone should have the right to marry. The LGBT movement and its allies won same-sex marriage rights and only a militant movement will ultimately prevail. Gay or straight, documented or undocumented; Black, Latino, Asian, Arab or white-- Prop. 8 is a slap in the face of equality for everyone. Let's unite and fight back! An injury to one is an injury to all! http://www.answerla.org

Well people who votes yes when they meant to vote no because they didn't read shouldn't vote. You're supposed to inform yourself when you vote. Otherwise what's the point of democracy?

*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - please know that the great majority of us are marching and protesting peacefully.  The police and mayor's office have been working hard to keep us safe and create paths for us to march.  They continue to provide thousands of officers helping us express our first amendment rights.

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT WE KEEP IT PEACEFUL AND SAFE.  Please help spread the word to not incite violence or join others bent on violence.  We are gaining ground in our fight and these PEACEFUL marches are helping.  Respect each other, help each other, keep each other safe and don't engage in any violent activity and the Police will remain helpful in spreading our cause.  There are Gay and Lesbian brothers and sisters in the LAPD and Sheriffs department who are working hard to keep the peace.  Let's all commit to ONE STRONG PEACEFUL VOICE as we carry our fight to victory and repeal Prop 8.  Thank you.

Let's keep it peaceful and avoid targeting members of the Black community.  I read that there were some racial slurs being flung about at past protests, and that can't help our cause.  Use this opportunity to educate the clueless and show how commited our community is to achieving our full civil rights.  Let's get out there in numbers.

This is the most up to date site I found with protests listed trhu december. Don't give up y'all.  I have tons of pictures to add. I was threatened with a knife at hollywood and vine by some big scary homophobe right in front of the police yesterday trying to get home from the Silverlake rally. After the police shut down the subway and blocked the street we need to walk home my friends and I luckily hailed a second cab( awesome guy who agreed with our right to protest, first cab we tried, well lets just say the ahole was not welcoming. Protest was still goin on when we left Sunset and Fairfax area when it was approaching 2 A.M. Dont' believe the news that it lasted only four hours. They were getting ready to arrest people with plastic handcuffs and we were tired as heck. We couldn't believe they continued down Sunset from near vine even though these guys were headed in ready to arrest. Historical.

wow Julie that's scary.. I'm glad you're ok though.

the protests/marches were huge.. we made a 1.5 mile circle from Sunset / Santa Monica. we were at the Silverlake one from 6-9pm then we headed over to Hollywood and Highland for another one. that one lasted from 10-3am.. we marched from Hollywood & Highland all the way down to the West Hollywood City Hall off San Vicente & Santa Monica, approximately 3.5 miles. They opened up the westbound lane for us on Sunset Blvd.
The LAPD had an overwhelming presence, but were very polite, cooperative, and respectful.

Here's some footage I found online if anyone's interested-

Emotions are high surrounding Proposition 8, the marriage amendment. Putting the religious aspect of the debate aside for a moment, let's look at it from a purely sociological standpoint.

A common argument is that gay marriage is a civil rights issue. But is it? As Americans, both heterosexuals and homosexuals have the same rights -- the right to get an education, own a home, pursue a career, live where they want, worship as they choose and vote their convictions. As Americans, this is the way it should be.

But, gay activists say their civil rights are violated because homosexuals can't marry whom they want. This argument is flawed because heterosexuals can't marry whomever they want, either. If a man fell in love with his sister, his daughter or his female first cousin, society would prohibit him from marrying her. And, society would also prohibit a woman from marrying her brother, son or male first cousin even if she fell in love with him. There are moral laws in our society against this.

In our society, marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman. A man can marry a woman of his choice and a woman can marry a man of her choice as long as that person is not already married and is distant in terms of blood relationship. This is held as morally acceptable by the majority of Americans and should not be changed. As proof, over 25 states have already passed marriage amendments defining valid marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman by an overall margin of 2 to 1.

The argument against gay marriage is not based on prejudice, hate or shoving one's morals down another's throat. It is based on societal moral convictions on what is natural and normal. And these moral convictions have been held for centuries. No, gay marriage is not about civil rights, it is about approval. It is about a small percentage of the population working to have their behavior, which the majority of Americans find morally wrong, accepted as normal by society. In deciding about Prop. 8, keep this in mind.
