The primal urge of grilled and smoked meats transcends cultures and continents. Los Angeles is home to some of the best Korean BBQ restaurants in the nation, a blend of Korean technique and American ingredients. The First Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff showcased the best Korean barbecue restaurants and dishes, hand-picked by a team of experts, in the largest social enclave for Koreans in America... K-Town, baby! Moo Dae Po won top honors in the Cook-Off judged by Jonathan Gold, Evan Kleiman and a host of panelists.
WHAT...
Los Angeles's Second Annual Korean BBQ Cook-off will showcase some of the best dishes by top Korean BBQ restaurants. Presented by the Korean American Coalition - Los Angeles (KAC), the Cook-off will be judged by distinguished judges who will present the prize for best the BBQ dish on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
LA's top Korean BBQ restaurants will be participating in the competition including:
- BCD Tofu House: Sizzling LA galbi, cut across the bone.
- Chuncheon Dakgalbi: Chicken galbi, grilled to perfection.
- Ham Ji Park: Mouth-watering pork ribs, the best in town.
- Hansong: Beefy deliciousness.
- Kalbi Burger: Burgers, KoreanAmericanized.
- O Dae San: Pork belly. Oh glorious pork belly...
- Olympic Cheonggukjang: Pork bulgogi, thin-sliced meat in a savory-sweet sauce.
- Park's BBQ: The One. The Only.
- Seoul Sausage Company: Kalbi? Inside a sausage? With slaw on top? In case you didn't catch these newcomers at LA Street Food Fest, check 'em out here.
- Soowon Galbi: One of the best and most-highly rated Korean BBQ restaurants in Ktown.

* 2:00 pm - All-You-Can-Eat Contest with Mystery Ingredient
* 3:30 pm - Soju Mix-Off, presented by Sauce|LA
* 5:00 pm - Cook-Off Competition

* All plates will be sold for $5 each, food tickets will be sold at the entrance (cash only), food can only be purchased using a ticket!
* Beer Garden
* Other food booths include shaved ice, drinks, grilled corn, and more
* Barbecue categories include LA galbi (marinated bone-in beef ribs), galbi (marinated boned-out beef ribs), pork ribs, and bulgogi (marinated sliced sirloin).
* Don't forget cash, sunscreen and please leave all pets at home.
GETTING THERE...
Go green! Carpool, bike or exit Metro on the Purple Line:
Take the Wilshire/Western or Wilshire/Normandie stops.
Free bike valet by Flying Pigeon LA will be available at the event from 12 - 6 pm.
Parking will be available at 3580 Wilshire Blvd, entrance on Ardmore for $5. You can walk out of the parking garage onto Kingsley- and straight into the main entrance KBBQ Cookoff. Look for the balloons! Parking is NOT available at the 3600 Wilshire basement monthly parking lot.
