The German American Societies of San Diego, Inc., hosts its traditional German Oktoberfest on the last weekend in September and the first weekend in October 2007: This year the Oktoberfest will be two three day weekends: beginning Friday, September 28, from 3 PM until 10 PM, Saturday, September 29, from noon until 10 PM and Sunday, September 30, from noon until 9 PM: and the following weekend on Friday from 3PM until 10PM, Saturday from noon until 10 PM and Sunday from noon to 9 PM. The opening parade and "tapping the beer keg" ceremony begins at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 29. The event is open to the public with a donation of $3.00 for age 21 and over, those under 21 and all active military are admitted for free. Authentic German food, such as bratwurst, ox-on-the-spit, potato salad, potato pancakes, sauerkraut and red cabbage will be served, along with a tasty variety of German pastries. A variety of soft drinks and adult beverages will be available, including a fantastic selection of German beers and liquors. Again this year, our Band comes straight from Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, called Guggenbach-Buam (Guggenbach boys). These fine musicians dress in traditional clothing, and play a variety of German music, just as you would hear in the beer gardens in Germany. Folk singing & traditional dance performances will be featured, along with games & contests, vendor & craft booths, and a kids' zone. On Saturday nights, our clubhouse is open for dancing (8 pm to midnight). Our raffle prize giveaway of a round-trip ticket for two to Germany is a highlight, along with many other door prizes. Bring your family to El Cajon and experience a real German Oktoberfest! For more information please phone (619) 442-6637. The address is 1017 S. Mollison Avenue, El Cajon (from San Diego take I-8 East, turn South on Mollison). Website http://www.germanclubs....
Selected as one of the top 5 neighborhood festivals by Sign On San Diego in 2002 and 2003.
They serve them in plastic cups, but they have huge tables for food and beer drinking...although I don't know if you'd want to stand on them.
The best thing is that if you have your own stien, they'll fill it up and it's a whole lot of beer for cheap cheap.
Plus, the food is amazing.
Ox-on-a-spit?!?! The German answer to Hot Dog on a Stick! Saw pics of the Bavarian Oktoberfest on the BBC site today - Holy Jesus! The scope of that thing makes me claustrophobic just looking at it. El Cajon Oktoberfest is a little more my speed.
5 more days til Oktoberfest in El Cajon.
Tune into Roger Hedgecock show today at 4pm.
He will be talking about it.
