Too Hot to Handel is without a doubt one of the finest classical music experiences I have ever had in my life! This show combines the brilliant melodies of Handel's Messiah with the rhythm and swing of jazz music all fueled with the unbridled passion of modern gospel! I have worked on this show since it began two years ago, and I hope to for many years to come.
Come enjoy the show and be sure to swing by the sound board to say hello!
While the name may seem a bit silly to some, there is definitely some serious talent performing. This particular production of the show is conducted by Suzanne Mallare Acton, from the Detroit Opera House, who has assembled a stellar trio of vocal soloists: Alfreda Burke, soprano, and Victor Trent Cook and Rodrick Dixon, tenors. Cook and Dixon are best known from their PBS special "3 Mo' Tenors". Alfreda Burke is well known in Chicago for her sell-out performances with virtually every symphony in town.
I would also like to add that the jazz rhythm section which is the heart of this performance is composed of the finest musicians and led by the one of the most creative and energetic piano soloists I have ever seen: Dr. Alvin Waddles. You can actually view one of his solos from last year here on the Auditorium Theatre website: http://www.auditoriumt...
There are two performances Saturday, January 19th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, January 20th at 3:00pm.
This is my favorite show to do all year, and also happens to be my biggest and best. I'm certain this year's performances will be even better than the previous two years. Get your tickets soon because it is bound to be a very popular show!
I'm going to have to cancel. I caught the bug that's going around and I've been totally wiped out for the past three days. Don't think I should share it with anyone. :(
