The Cherrywood Art Fair is NOT your grandma's holiday bazaar. But we ARE:
A juried show. Many artists apply, but few are chosen: we select participants for the quality of their work, and strive to balance the show, so you don't have to browse ten jewelers to see one painter (or vice versa).
A showcase for ORIGINAL art. You'll find treasures at all prices, from affordable jewelry to gallery-quality oil paintings - and it's all made by hand in Texas. You'll see wonderful pieces by well-known artists AND discover talented newcomers before they make it big.
Free, family-friendly fun. Kids make their own art while their parents shop and listen to live music by top Austin artists. There's great food from Traveling Bistro (no funnel cakes, no turkey legs).
Supporting arts and artful landscape in East Austin. The Cherrywood Art Fair began as a neighborhood lark. We've evolved into CHULA, the Cherrywood Urban Landscape and Art League, an energetic, ambitious new non-profit.
We've already raised thousands of dollars for the art & gardening programs at Maplewood Elementary, paired talented kids with local artists for lessons and mentoring, and supported East Austin beautification projects. But this is only the beginning...
Anna, they have lots of stuff for kiddies there. I remember an entire section of the festival being dedicated to the kiddos. There was face painting and costume dressups. I'm sure it'd be great for 3 and up.
The music line-up is Awesome! Anna, I have brought my daughter to Cherrywood every year since she was three and she always has a blast. Hey, Joe McDermott is playing! The art teacher from Maplewood does activities wit hthe kids. The shopping is phenominal!
I have 2 teenagers, and they totally dig the Cherrywood Art Fair too! Being boys, they like the music and food the most, and get a big kick out of going through the school's cafeteria line.
I've brought my boys here. There was a great Santa with a real beard to take pictures with, good food, nice dining under a tree outside, craft activities (they helped create a stepping stone, made a button, something else I'm forgetting). The pictures cost something but the crafts were free. Food provided by a local cartering company. Fun music.
Older toddler and up would have a grand time, I think.
I heard that the kids are painting flower pots this year! How fun! Santa had a detour in Chicago, so his itinerary does not include the fair, but no worries, much fun to be had and only two weeks away! Can't wait to SHOP!
Love that this is all local! Knowing that the money helped Maplewood Elementary fund an organic garden and all the kids got to make clay bowls to eat the salad they grew in is just pretty much the coolest thing EVER! Oh yeah, and it's an AWESOME place to shop for locally made gifts for all the fam & friends! Love it! woof!woof! :)
This is a fun event and has a great neighborhood feel (though people from all over town come to it). It's got to be one of the more popular holiday fundraisers in Austin. Definitely worth checking out.
I went today and it was so awesome!! I'm tempted to go back tomorrow. It's hard to buy such crafty, individualized stuff for other people, so I mainly looked for me!!
