Penn Plaza at Hotel Pennsylvania, I have been here for a few television show. They tape in the upstairs part, you can walk right through the lobby then find the area where to go. I have seen the show "Quite Frankly" a few times way back with Stephen A. Smith ( ESPN worker, Native New Yorker that knows and talks his basketball). It was a great show, we used to get free pizza and some other keepsakes as being part of the studio audience.
-I have also been here recently for the "Bill Cunningham Show" at same studio location and it was very good as well. That is a new show, not sure how well it is doing so far in the ratings and all.
-Location is right near Madison Square Garden. They do other local NY events here as well. West 33rd street between 6th and 7th is the location where the studio entrance goes for the hotel part (at least).
I Attended The Big Apple Comic Con 2011 at The Penn Plaza Pavilion on May 22 2011.
My review is for the event and location of the Hotel Pennsylvania plaza pavilion which is located next to Madison Sq Garden in New York City.
First I like to say the location and hotel used by the event planners was first rate. The Wizard World Big Apple Comic Con 2011 was a blast and I had an excellent time at the show. The staff was excellent and people working, and planned the show did very well. Meeting guest and artists attending the show was not a problem and getting a autograph form the TV and Movie stars in attendance was great. Meeting other cos players and doing the photos ops was a lot of fun at the show.
I will be attending next year's Big Apple Comic Con 2012 from the Penn Plaza Pavilion in New York City for sure
I was at the Penn Plaza Pavilion this weekend for the Comics convention, previously held at the Javits Center.
I am reviewing both the location and the event itself.
First, I didn't like how cramped the majority of the event was into the two floors of the event space directly to the right of the Hotel Pennsylvania. However, this is not the fault of the hotel/ venue staff, but the choice of location. I know how difficult it is to get people to come to these events to make them cost effective, however, cramming so much into so little space is not necessarily the way to go about it.
Secondly, the signs were very confusing - from the signs pointing to the "gaming" area (seemingly to be strictly for Magic gamers) to the signs for the lectures/ discussions upstairs.
Then there was trying to find the artists/ writers I had wanted to meet. Unlike some other events, I was unable to find a brochure, so I had to basically bother people to ask them where various people were stationed. I found Stuart Clark, Tim Smith, and Scott Arbruson finally. I also spoke to a few other (not as cool) writers and artists. I completely missed a few photo opps, but that was OK. Someone got Dan Fogel's book/ autograph for me, so I am all set on that front.
Overall, I need more organization in my convention/ venue spaces.
