6 reviews for Zyggyz Indian Grill
I was walking down Sheridan the other day and was surprised to see Pita Grill was gone! The Zyggyz Indian Grill caught my attention so I decided to go there for lunch. The inside is much nicer than PG was, they re did the walls and re arranged the tables. When you first come in there's a really nice aroma of food being cooked.
I ordered the Zyggyz Chicken Roll (think spicy Indian chicken wrapped in naan in the style of a burrito with grilled peppers and onions). It was really really good, something I would definitely get again. It's almost like an Indian burrito (but one that doesn't make you feel sick like Chipotle does).
The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that I ordered the masala fries, and they were super soggy. I mean they were straight up Ore-Ida fries out of the bag into the freezer, nothing I couldn't make at home. The masala seasoning was good, I wish they had put a little more though. They really need better fries though.
My friend ordered the chicken biryani, and that was amazing. It takes about ten minutes to prepare but it is well worth it because everything is freshly made. The chef cooks the chicken freshly in front of you on the flat top, and then adds the rice and lots of spices. You can choose how spicy you want your dish to be on a scale of 1-10, watch out it can get really spicy though! The portion is HUGE, there were probably 4 or 5 chicken drumsticks in his biryani, and an entire plate full of rice. There are plently of vegetarian and vegan options as well on the menu, I'm definitely going back to try more of their menu items!
Zyggyz is Indian food for white folks. That being sad, you can ask for things to have heat added to them and the food is delicious and reasonably priced.
We needed a new lunch spot and we have it. You can have a serious lunch for a $7.00. Take that Chipotle, you corporate bastard. The service is great too.
Pros: Very nice people working there. Addicting masala fries. Cheap. Close by.
Cons: Poorly made "zyggyz" roll- nothing like real indian street food. Samosa way too fried, falling apart and too greasy. Overall "blah" feeling after eating 1/4 of the roll and 1/2 of the samosa....
I love Indian food and even though I didn't think this would be the most authentic place, I thought it might be decent enough to stop by for lunch a few times a month. However, I am not sure if I will ever return. I ordered the #1 combo, paneer roll with masala fries and a drink, and an order of samosas. The woman behind the counter was Very friendly and gave me a free mango lassi because they didn't have anymore samosa (I only got one). Very nice! But I was SOOOO disappointed with the roll. Not only did they give me an aloo/potato roll and not the paneer I ordered but it was just so sloppily put together with barely anything in it. I also had no idea they'd ever think to put lettuce in there, ew!
The fries are addicting despite being just regular frozen bagged crinkle cuts. Mango lassi was sweet and refreshing, too.
I want to give them a THREE stars but "A-ok" doesn't really sum up my experience- definitely more like "meh" The woman told me that they just opened about 3 weeks ago so I will definitely cut them some slack. Perhaps I'll stop by in 2-3 months and see what's goin on then!
If you are vegan, just be aware that the menu is not correct where it states that the Aloo Ziggy Roll is VEGAN. It's not always vegan, they said that sometimes it has butter in it. I asked and was told that. I also spoke to the owner who was there and told him that he should update the menu.
This place exceeded my expectations. It's a fast food place, or I guess the correct term these days is "fast casual". The menu is short and simple, but there's nothing simple about the food. It was popping with flavor. Being Indian, I don't expect much from a fast food Indian restaurant. Even the words are almost an oxymoron, but Zyggyz is delicious and totally gets it right...good food, quick, and very reasonably priced.
The girl behind the counter was also extremely friendly, and had my meal ready in just a few minutes. I'm hard to please, but I'll be coming back. It's ideal for lunch and the late night munchies, especially after partying it up in the city...gotta have the Chicken Zyggy!
I have to agree with Amanda H (especially since I am a white person). I think it's great alternative to Chipotle. It was super fast and very good. It's basically Indian fast food, they even have fries. Their samosas were giant and filled with evil deliciousness. I also agree that the service was awesome! The young woman behind the counter was very helpful.
