The best pizza crust I have had in a chain.  Truly great!

I tried the provence and the tuscan.  Both were very good though I would skip the sweet onions  on the tuscan next time.

on another visit,  tried the piadas,  the veggie was ok but the chicken was very disappointing.

I think these guys should stick to pizzas.

They get a "1" due to inconsistency and shockingly bad customer service. Let me explain:

1.) Inconsistency: Often their pizza is quite good, pending you're into the wacky topping options which my wife and I are. If you like a more traditional pizza (pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, etc) it's not in the same league as other local pizza joints such as Zachary's, etc - but I digress. The crown jewel here to my palate is the Thai pizza with a whole wheat crust (this is the only place i've been where the whole wheat crust is superior to white). Here's the crippling problem however - while most of the time they're shockingly good, at least 20% of the time, they make a critical error, in some instances making the pizza downright bad. Now before you point the finger in my direction for not checking the pizza, let me go into more detail. They often forget the peanut sauce (under the cheese) which cannot be "checked" without eating some on the spot. Often there will be a small blob in the middle, with the rest of the pizza barren (under the cheese) so while the first 1-2 bites might be perfect, subsequent bites are bland and lacking that peanut sauce punch it should have. Often the serrano chilies aren't well distributed, so you might get 1-2 LARGE slices of pizza with no chili punch, then get a slice with an overpowering amount - and in most cases they melt into the cheese, so you cannot easily gauge the "chili status." There are some other QC issues - but I won't beat a dead horse here - the bottom line is this... sometimes they're great, sometimes they suck more than a plecostomus and frankly i'd rather go somewhere that's a consistent "8" over a place thats often a "9" and sometimes a "3".

2.) Service. One word: sucks. If you get one of the aforementioned "dud" pizzas  prepared to be told to pound sand. Irritated that we'd received 2 "duds" in a row here, we called to complain last night as they completely forgot to include TWO ingredients, one of which was the peanut sauce entirely. Their response? "There's nothing we can or will do."

I'll never go back to zpizza again. Take the trip 300 yards down the road for a consistent, superior pizza at Zach's.

We have to be in San Ramon once a month and are always looking for places to eat in the area. Good selection and plenty of veggie with add-on meat options. The pizzas are decently priced. A nice variety of entree salads as well. They also have several lunch specials until 3pm but if you miss that, they have happy hour from 3-5pm with $2 pizza slices.

We ordered the Italian and the combination of the pesto, artichokes, ham, and olives was tasty. But the secret lies in their thin crust. I only like my pizza with one kind of crust and that's it! I'll be back to try their other creations!

A healthy, organic option that not only tastes awesome but doesn't make you feel regretful.

    Brief Summary
-- Healthy, Fresh, and Organic Ingredients
    -- Great Lunch Combos
    -- Great Selection
    -- Decently priced

I feel a little guilty that I didn't give this place a shot. It's not super close to work like Round Table and Zachary's but now I can see that it's worth a little bit more of a skip.

Service was friendly and quick. I also came here around 11:15am on a Wednesday. I'd imagine that this place gets packed and busy like all of the other San Ramon businesses open for lunch.

    I liked the combos:
    2 Slices and a soda for $6.20
    1 Slice, 1/2 Salad and a soda for $8.20

Regular slice is around $2.50 + tax

I tried the California Salad and substituted carrots for tomatoe with no struggle. The balsamic vinegrette was tasty and not overbearing. The greens were fresh as were all of the other veggies.

I also had a slice of their spinach, tomatoe, ricotta with pesto. and I tasted the pepperoni as well. The pizza was delicious and fresh. The taste wasn't the best ever but I liked that it was crispy and thin. It didn't feel heavy or super bad for you.

Now that I've been here, I will definitely keep it in mind. The lunch punch card is also a bonus. Fresh and healthy pizza is hard to find!

Pretty good pizza. The ZBQ personal pizza was very good, though a little on the sweet side. I would have gone with grilled onions over the harsh red onions, but that's my preference.

Slices of cheese and pepperoni by boyfriend got were damn good though.

Great pizza for the price, a decent vegetarian selection, and they serve beer. This is as good as it gets, and a dessert at Pinkberry afterward.

One slice of Pepperoni please! With a side of diet coke. That's really all I need to fulfill my tummy during the work week.

Probably one of the best, if not the best pizza place around town. I love the crust and how huge the slices are. Could have easily shared it but I'm a pizza lover so there's no sharing when it comes to my love.

I originally asked for a combo pizza but they didn't have it. Sad face. I guess they only had pepperoni and cheese that day. Maybe they ran out of the other stuff because it's so darn good.

Excellent pizza! ...  Now, I eat A LOT of pizza (it's my weakness), and nothing has quite compared to John's Pizza in NY, but this place is pretty damn close ;) .... I am a true believer that the crust is what makes or breaks a pizza....  and I've gotta tell you, I love, love, love Z Pizza's crust! ... For all you WW patriots, a slice of cheese here at Z is only 5 points :) ... ZPizza is "Z" best! ;)  LOL

I'm giving a shout-out to Z Pizza, if only because they serve gluten-free pizzas. I tried the American, gluten-free, and my only comment is that the tomato slices were too big. I only make this comment because I'm not a fan of tomatoes and would have preferred them diced.

They also have a pear and gorgonzola salad that's pretty freaking good. So if you're in San Ramon, give Z Pizza a try.

Found this place via Yelp a few months back when I was searching for some vegan food for my daughter. Seeings that it had some good reviews decided to try it out and was not disappointed.

First time shared a Berkeley Vegan pizza with my daughter. When it first came out I was skeptical of the cheese. Didn't seem very passable but after letting it sit for a few minutes it was much more like regular cheese. Ended up being a very good meal.

Second visit got the pepperoni pizza and really enjoyed it. Flavor was very good and came out piping hot just how I like it. Daughter had the vegan again and it was just as good as the first time. Absolutely no complaints.

This place also has a little bar setup with a few beers on tap if you wanna lounge and watch something on the flat screen TV they have setup. People that work there are very cool and make for a laid back atmosphere. Also had some really great looking salads on the menu that I would like to try next time there..

A few tables inside, but we always do take-out. I like their thin crust, tasty and fresh toppings, plus they have coupon specials of large pizzas for $20 or so. Easy parking, near Loehman's. The pepperoni pizza is real good, must be their selection of cheeses and the thin crust.

However, their chicken pizza is a joke. It comes with about two dozen slices of chicken that looks like they came right out from a frozen grill chicken strip bag. We laughed when we opened the box, it was the sorriest looking pizza we have ever seen. They should cut up the strips into cubes to better distribute the chicken and make it more appealing to the eye.

Consistent quality. Top-notch ingredients. Great variety. I love the California salad. They don't drown it in dressing (and the balsamic dressing is wonderful). For this style of pizza (thin), nothing I've had compares. Beats Amicis (which I am a big fan of, BTW) hands down. Even the slices are good, and slices can be tricky to keep fresh and tasty.

Gluten free pizza.  Vegan cheese.  Yep, these are the ingredients they use here at Z Pizza.

Came here for lunch with Matt C., Andrew Y., and Joann.  Got their lunch special, 2 slices and a fountain soda for $6.95.  Pretty good price for lunch!  You can select from 4 different kinds - Pepperoni, Cheese, Vegetarian, or Hawaiian.  I heard that they alternate the kinds of pizza, but today, all they had were those 4.  So you order, they pull the slices out from the pie, then stick it in their oven, and then bring it out to you.  This takes approx. 5 minutes.  Quick!  The crust was the best part of the pizza....thin, but not too thin where it's like eating a cracker topped with cheese, and pizza sauce.  Plus, they even offer Siracha on their "condiments" table!  A bit greasier than I would've preferred, but not bad.

All in all, not a bad deal for the price.  Matt C. would disagree as he is on his way to Safeway right now to get a sandwich since he's still hungry.

Tip o' the day:  If you're eating alone, but don't want to be a weirdo about it, sit by the "bar" and watch them make the pizza!

Z Pizza offers California style brick-oven, thin crust pizza made with organic tomato sauce and organic wheat flour.  They claim to have healthier pizza and the nutrition information is displayed prominently at the restaurant.  They have traditional pizzas but also Thai, ZBQ, Mexican, etc. (reminds me of California Pizza Kitchen, Z Pizza is a chain as well), sandwiches, pastas and salads.  Toppings include some unusual options like hot house cucumbers, veggie burger, truffle oil, chicken sausage, lime chicken, ricotta and soy cheese.  The mozzarella they use is low-fat.

They had a few cooked pizzas for the lunch crowd and a clean, contemporary atmosphere.  You order up front. The lunch special is offered from 11 - 3 PM and they have a frequent buyer card just for the lunch special.  There's free wi-fi and the soda machine is in the dining area, so you can drink as much as you want.

I had the ZBQ Salad ($5.95) with BBQ chicken, corn, red onions, roasted red peppers, cilantro and chipotle ranch dressing (I asked for balsamic vinaigrette instead) over mixed greens.  The salad was decent (fresh, good portion) but the small chunks of chicken were extremely dry. It's very similar to Trader Joe's BBQ chicken salad (which is $3.99) but not as good because of the dry chicken.  Also TJ's salad has more veggies, black beans and cheese.  San Ramon needs you, Trader Joe's!

    Almost perfect pizza.

The sauce is so frikkin' great, and you can taste it above the toppings and crust.  The crust is crispy outside and soft inside and the cheese to toppings to crust ratio is dead on perfect.

The atmosphere is typical of a stripmall pizza joint, the music is an 80's-90's blend. The topping of my perfect pizza experience? The cutie that's behind the counter with the pretty eyes and shy smile.  Can I have a slice of that?

I have been eating & ordering take out from the San Ramon location since we moved here 1.5 years ago. It has always been consistently delicious. I love that its organic and not overly greasy like so many other chains. I am a pepperoni fan and their pep is SOO good. And their cheese....so creamy and tastey. Their salads are also delish, husband and I love the pear and gorgonzola with candied walnuts. Yum!

If you sign up on their website you get tons of coupons emailed to you regularly :)  I am totally shocked regarding some of the poor reviews from other yelpers because I am a total pizza snob and VERY picky when it comes to my pizza and I LOVE Z pizza. I'm kind of confused how anyone could not like it. Perplexing indeed.

Bottom Line: Fantabulous thin crust pizza with organic ingredients, consistently delicious and all at a fair price. We usually take out but it is pleasant to dine in as well. If you are "deep dish" kind of person, you might not dig it but I would suggest giving it a try and see if Z pizza cant win you over to California style pizza.

Why does this place have such a high rating.

I came here a while back with my buddy and we were all excited to try this place after reading the positive reviews. I think we ordered two different kinds (dont remember what they were) so that we would get a variety.

When the pizza came we were completely disappointed. It looked like it came from one of those tinny pizza ovens you see at bowling allies or a college cafeteria. Its was pretty thin and pathetic looking.

Needles to say I will not be coming back.

A nice light pizza. The one with tomato and basil was really flavourful. Lots of garlic. They have combos. The 2 slice combo with drink is $6.35 (I think) and 2 slices alone is $5.55.

The service is fast and they actually have seats in front of the area where they make the pizza. Lots of spinning dough in the air, not to be confused with dough falling from the air.

They do have pepperoni and hawaiian slices available as well.

I love their pizza.  The crust is thin, the toppings are simple, yet well put together, and the pizza isn't greasy.  As far as pizza goes, it's very much on the healthier side.

I usually go there for lunch and get one of their lunch combos: 1 slice pizza, 1 salad (which can be a lunch on its own), and a drink.  They have allowed me get a bottled water instead of fountain soda at no extra charge. (Most other places will charge you.)  The lunch combo is about $7, a great price for all that you get.

They have different types of pizzas that you can choose from everyday. My favorite is the Tuscan Mushroom. They make their salads on the spot - sometimes you have to wait because they are so busy, but it's worth it because the salads are extremely fresh. (If you are in a rush, you can call ahead and order over the phone for pick up.)  I usually order the California salad, which has avocado, and the avocados are always fresh and green. Never a dark spot to be found. Yum!

The staff is friendly and they always walk around wiping tables and making sure napkins, etc. are filled.  This is one of the cleanest pizza joints I've ever been to, with big windows and a lot of light. You feel welcome and relaxed when you are there.  They also have a couple of outdoor tables, which are great for a lovely warm afternoon.

WOW! I was really upset about my experience at Z Pizza, I was disappointed and irritated.

I got an email from an employee and the owner of Z Pizza, now I have to admit I was skeptical about opening either email, wondering if they were going to launch a tirade of criticism for my comments. But it was the opposite, they were actually concerned about my experience and were generally interested in understanding what happened. I am highly impressed, not only that they keep tabs on their customers experiences, but care enough to reach out and understand the problem. Anyways, I have a whole new view on Z Pizza and I will be back again to try it a second time :o)

I personally come here for their "gourmet" salad during lunch (gorgonzola and pear, california, or spinach) but once in awhile I'll order from their lunch special which is pretty decent. I'd prefer this during lunch over Zachary's, which just opened a couple months back located on the other side of the strip mall b/c Zach's pizza by the slice is not very good IMO (their Chicago style doesn't come by the slice) and I'm obviously not going to be ordering a whole pie and eat it by myself .
Fairly clean, not too crowded or busy.
Also, it doesn't hurt that Z uses organic tomato sauce, MGS-free pepperoni, and you have the optionn for whole wheat crust. Definately a plus in my book.

Zpizza is chain pizza. Weird thing is, it doesn't taste like chain pizza. They've got your good ol pepperoni slice with just the right amount of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Or mix it up with a ZBBQ chicken pizza, or even the southwestern style. Great place to grab a slice when you're starving, and conveniently located 4 stores down from Jamba Juice. I love stopping in here for a slice after work, sitting down and polishing that baby down while soccer plays on the tv. Add a bit of crushed red peppers, and hunger-be-gone :)

They're also quite good with large take out orders, and have discounts online or instore for 10-15% off.

First off, it shouldn't take an hour and 15 minutes to deliver a pizza in San Ramon... especially when they tell you it'll take 45.  Also, you shouldn't momentarily think that the pizza box might be empty when handed to you by the driver because it's so light, only to discover that, no, the pizza's in the there...  it's just really thin.

The pizza itself, was okay.  But then again you can't really mess up pizza.  I had some "super duper cheap practically free w/ coupon" pizza in my college years ago that was pretty close to messed up, and even that was okay.

That said, I'm older and wiser and not as poor as I was in college, so I shouldn't have to eat pizza that brings up the "Is this crap or not?" question.

The wheat crust and the coupon they hung on my door were nice, although I'll likely order elsewhere for pizza next time.

Solid 4 stars--with hints of a 5 star personality.  I've been to Z's for their 6.50 two slice and a drink lunch combo.  A great price for "gourmet" pizza served by an overall cool staff.  I've also done takeout on Monday nights for their $10 extra large cheese deal...great thin crust crowd pleaser.  The real gem was the 6 pies I had delivered to my daughter's birthday party venue.  Pre-ordering arrangements were professional, delivery was prompt, and the pizza was exceptionally good!  We had rave reviews from the parents for the Napoli, Tuscan, Pepperoni, and Cheese pizzas.  It is pricey, but you can taste the quality at Z's.

WARNING:  This reviewer never met a pizza he didn't like, and has been quoted as saying "I could eat pizza everyday for the rest of my life."  So in other words, don't expect an overly nit-picky review here.

I really like Z Pizza's pizza and am happy to have them in the area as one of our local options.  I love their thin crust style and the ingredients always seem fresh.  So when the call from the family came in last Friday evening for Z (as I was walking out of the gym, no less), I was all too happy to oblige.

Had a glass of chard while I waited on our XL half Mediterranean, half Greek.  It was delicious!  You can get all the traditional toppings here, oof course.  But these two optoins are my favorites from Z.  I was worried how Z would hold up when Zachary's came to town and opened up in the same shopping centter!  But it looks like Z has staying power and I'm quite pleased about that!

I really used to not be a big fan of Z pizza, I'll be honest i'm more of the the "walking down the street in New York and get a big slice of NY pizza" kinda guy which probablly will clog your arteries but hey who cares?! However  because i worked within walking distance i figured i give it it's fair share. I have grown to really dig it for lunch. For around 5 or 6 bucks(if i remember right) you can get 2 slices and drink during their lunch deal times. Not bad at all. And whats more...its GOOD pizza. It's taking the healthy route with top quality ingredients that are better for you than your typical Pizza hut or Dominos. However it really doesnt sacrafice the taste! If your in the mood for cheap and GOOD pizza, swing by and youll be surprised that healthy pizza can be good pizza!

I've been coming to Zpizza for a VERY long time... Okay, two years really.  Not that long, but in the consumer world - its pretty clost to a lifetime.  So this is my first official YELP review, and I figured I'd test it out on a tried and true pizza joint.

First off, I can't say too much about Z Pizza, in that I ALWAYS get the calzone.  In fact, if Tom the owner is scanning this, he'll know who this is AND what I normally order.  The veggie calzone - mozerella instead of ricotta and hold the olives.  That's one of the things I love about this place - they know me and what I like.  They have great service, yummy food and its pretty convenient to anyone working in the San Ramon area.

And, YES - it gets busy at lunchtime, so any whiners who cringe at the thought of waiting in a line should just call in their order for pick up.  Trust me it works - I do it all the time.

Let me see if I missed anything...
    1) yummy calzones

    2) accomodating staff

    3) Oh yeah, it's health food (sorta!)  I almost forgot! Everything is organic and whole wheaty... so any vegetarians and vegans can get down here.

    4) I'm a Weight Watchers member, and I've pointed this stuff out, so anyone looking to lose, this is a definitely a HEALTHY alternative to Zac's, Round Table/mt.mike's... You get your pizza fix and you don't have to worry about the scale the next day.

    Hope this review helps!!

PS. they have LOTS of lunch deals and definitely scan the coupon section of their website if you're really hurting... :0)

They really know how to turn a pie here.  This is as close to NY style pizza that I have had in California.  Hands down it is the best NYC style pizza in the State, and I would go as far as "the best on the west coast."  They have the right ovens, and the  perfect amount of cheese to sauce ratio.  Anyone who gave this place a low rating should be laughed at and not be allowed to have pizza again.  No more pizza for you.

Good Pizza and friendly people there.  I prefer a thinner crust, but this isn't too thick for me.  Ingredients seem fresh and high quality.

Nice little place with a few selections of beer and wine for the adults.  On a nice day you can sit at tables outside.

Check out the website for coupons before you go.

Ok, what day did I have the pizza?  Just this past Friday?
Ok, I admit I walked up there today, Monday, to check out another item on the menu.
The place is clean, friendly, and if you go a bit earlier than the lunch crowd, you can pretend it was opened just for you!
I ordered a curried chicken sandwich which was full of tender chicken, just the right seasoning, and big for the price of 6.50.
Stay tuned, my dears!! Or better yet, head to Z!!!
They  do have other branches, so no excuses.
I did mention I would love a branch in Oakland!!  Thank you Z!!

The pizza here isn't bad.  When my sister said she was gonna get some pizza for us for helping her paint her house I was expecting cheese laden, greasy style pizza.  But what she ordered was pizza done healthy.  She had ordered a pepperoni w/ mushroom and a Mexican pizza.  We had ordered it for pick up cuz her house was like 3 or 4 blocks past the delivery point.  Anyway we arrived at the restaurant and noticed the chairs were up on the tables.  We ran to the door cuz we thought we had been too late and that they were closing.  The door was still open and we told them that we were picking up some pizzas.  We asked them if they were closed and the girl said that they were but they knew that we were on our way.  So they get plus points for that.

Now onto the pizza.  The crust here is pretty good.  I think if i can recall the crust is made out of a cornmeal type dough so it had some crunchiness to it.  The musharoni (pepperoni and mushroom) pizza was just ok.  The Mexica pizza was actually better than it sounded.  It had fresh cilantro, salsa, avocados, and sour cream on the pizza itself.  Everything was pretty good and we had no complaints.
