Yes, they will be open at 4 PM on Thanksgiving! They disconnected their main phone because of too many annoying spam calls, but update their Facebook page regularly : )

Pretty much zero signage for this place unless you are randomly driving north and see the side of their building.
A cute little place that was totally empty the Wednesday we went in. Pretty standard as bars go, but completely quiet unless you pay for music. I bet if it was full it would be a much more memorable experience, but it was just myself and my friend.
I think it's in a cool location and could do really well if they advertised a bit! But then again, maybe it's just a place for regulars.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2022
This is a very legit dive bar. It's sort of in a location where there aren't many others.
We were downtown at that big location I can't remember the name of it and I searched for dive bar and this came up.
When I say it's legit, it's legit it looks like my house in college when I was 20. There's beer cans laying around and graffiti all over the walls. There's a couple pool tables. The bartender is suitably grouchy and the bathrooms are suitably dingy.
Everybody that was in there looks like they hang out there all the time. Prices were decent.
I think it would be fun if you lived in the area and we're able to go there on a regular basis.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrew R.Hyattsville, MD361Jun 25, 2023
This place is great. Cheap drinks and good people. Cash only but has an Atm in the back.

Visiting from Boston and had to visit a dive bar. This didn't disappoint.
Jell-O shot a plus. Ok, maybe two!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matt C.Mission, KS125134452Nov 3, 2019
Dive bar at its finest! Limited bar seating inside, this is a great place to check out if you want the opposite of Power and Light. Cheap beer and drinks, grabbed a couple $3 High Life tall boys on my stop in. They have a pool table and dart board, but very little room to play if this place fills up. Don't expect craft beer or fancy cocktails. They had a couple IPAs that I am guessing rarely ever see action. Their walls are covered in customer signatures/quotes dating back to at least the 80's from a few I found that were dated.
If you enjoy dive bars, you need to stop here.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Eric N.Kansas City, MO33842671Jan 10, 2019
Please DO write on the walls at Zoo Bar!
That is, if you can find a spot amongst all the other "graffiti" and tchotches that fill every corner of this fantastic dive bar.
"The Zoo" has everything:
Cheap drinks...you won't find cheaper, stiffer drinks anywhere else near Power and Light District, and those are everyday prices. Daily specials like $2 domestic cans every Monday or $3 wells on Thursday are unbeatable!
Location, location, location....one street over from Power and Light but completely removed atmosphere-wise. You will find everyone from KCMO business people in suits to traveling show crews from Sprint Center across the street to a local cast of characters. Plus only about 4 blocks from the free KC Streetcar!
Wanna play games? They have a pool table , darts, minature jenga set, great jukebox plus "Cari-oke" on Tuesday night where you sing from your seat. The whole place breaks into song All of the time!
Last but not least...Fantastic staff. The friendly bar staff has more than enough sass to serve you with a smile and still handle the rowdiest crowds.
***It is cash only to keep prices down but there is an ATM on-site and plenty of banks nearby.
They got too many prank calls so they don't have a phone but don't worry they haven't closed, but they Are closed on Sundays.
So what are you waiting for!! Get down to Zoo Bar! I live nearby so you may see me there and if you do say Hi : )

BEST DIVE BAR. Need a place to go in the middle of the week with a big group? This place fits the bill. Need the memory of holding a can or bottle of your favorite beer from college. That may come true too. Just make sure you have cash.
There is a pool table around the back. Also one of those new jukeboxes to play some fun jams. Don't forget to ask for a sharpie too and draw on the walls! I made my mark - ghoatst.
Just a fun spot to just hang with friends, and the bartender was such a sweetheart. This will be on the rotation when I'm back in KC.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 15, 2018
When you look up "dive bar" in the dictionary, a picture of Zoo Bar in Kansas City should pop up. An all time classic local dive with a working juke box, darts, pool, and cheap drinks. I have yet to find a more fun hole in the wall in my time in KC! And as one of their favorite signs read: "The customer is always wrong!"
