Yummy dishes to try
- crispy fish taco. fresh. on corn tortillas. fresh and light.
- carne asada taco.
- Steak or Chicken Nachos. Fresh, I think the chips are made on site. it's large, can feed 2+ girls for the one dish, not bad considering it's about 8 dollars.
the restaurant is nice and clean. nice location. and has a salsa bar.
The workers are pretty night. and don't forget to tell them if you are a student, there's a 10% discount if you are. :)

Zona Fresca and Moe's are battling it out at the top of Mexican fast food chain here in South Florida, since I haven't been to the local Chipotle and think that these two guys have much more on offer, anyway.
I'd say that the largest difference is that Moe's is a huge burrito joint whereas Zona Fresca throws in some variety and kicks it up with some authentic salsas on offer. They do very well with tacos, offering some delicious fish tacos, steak tacos, carne asada, mmmm .. Oh yes, they also have burritos, quesadillas and your requisite flautas. Now, those are worth trying!
Service at the Plantation joint can sometimes run slow during lunch and there have been reported cases of errors on the food orders, but that's mostly sorted out now that they've been open for a while. (the slowness during lunch is still an ongoing phenomenon, though, so prepare yourself for that.)
Just as the stars suggest, I have definitely experienced better. I went in with high hopes -- not only do people on here rave about Zona Fresca, so do my friends! I love Mexican food, but I was really disappointed that neither the salsas nor the "siesta maker" burrito had flavor.
If you're going to have a salsa bar, which features a habanero salsa and go to the trouble of noting that it is "hot," it should -- at the very least -- be packed with a punch of flavor. It was not hot at all, and it was pretty bland. The pico de gallo wasn't much better.
As for the burrito itself, it was nicely sized (meaning that I wasn't hungry when I left), but I wasn't as full as I would have been if I had gone somewhere else (hint, hint -- Chipotle). Despite all of its ingredients (grilled chicken, cilantro rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo, cheese, grilled peppers and onions), all you could taste were the beans and the onions. What a disappointment! This "siesta maker" made me want to take a nap because it lacked spice, heat, and flavor.
To its credit, Zona Fresca does use fresh ingredients, but ZF could use a little (or a lot of) help in the seasoning department. How are you going to call your rice cilantro rice when you can't even taste a hint of the fresh herb?
When the New Times awarded Zona Fresca with the Best of... Mexican, there must have been a mistake. It might be the Best of the Worst Mexican.
OK...still love them, always will, but I wanted EVERYONE in Yelp land to know that they won New Times Best Of...Best Mexican. So if listening to all of your fellow yelpers isn't enough to make you try this place, then that should. I had a party this weekend and ordered a large order of the homemade FRESH ceviche and it was too die for. All my guests loved it and I can't believe it is all gone now :(
Good thing the weekend is only 5 days away so I can get more!

The following story is based on true events:
I recently ordered nachos at Zona Fresca, and my ass literally grew before my eyes. But I looked at it and I said "Listen, you stereotypically Cuban anatomical feature, you...I'm gonna enjoy these nachos, and there's nothing you can do about it." And then I devoured every last cheesy chip, licked the sour cream and guacamole off the plate, and did the robot out the door.

Great service from a friendly staff. I have become a regular of 1-2 times a week for lunch. Many great choices on their menu including their Fish Tacos and their Chicken Quesadilla. I would highly recommend them for some cheap, good Mexican food.
Zona....sigh..
While I always enjoyed the delicious meals at the original Zona (off of Federal Highway north of Sunrise), the experience wasn't always the greatest. I had to fight for parking, then try to find a table. The food was great, so I kept coming back.
Until they opened their Plantation location. It has a spacious dining room, plus pet-friendly outdoor seating and ample parking. It's very clean and welcoming. Now, on to the food:
In a word, amazing. They only use the freshest of ingredients, to be topped by their wonderful salsa bar. And, they have great guacamole. The burritos, salads, and quesodillas cannot be beat. I won't eat at Mexican joints anymore, because nothing compares to Zona!
The food is top notch, the prices are fair, and the staff rocks. They have big portions, so I've never made it past my main dish, but there is a small selection of desserts. Go there. Trust me.
Also, they offer a 10% discount for Nova students.
Nice fresh food for affordable prices. Staff is very nice and there is a salsa bar!
Giraffe Friendly.
Same great fresh-mex menu as their Federal Hwy location now available in the Plantation/University/Peters Road corridor.
This spot is nested in a strip mall virtually unrecognizable from the street, in fact if it wasn't for the bus stop bench ad I'd have no idea to look for it.
Friendly staff, quick fresh food for dine in or takeout.
Ceviche on Fridays & Saturdays.
Seriously, if you have not gone here yet, and you like Mexican food, I don't know what you are waiting for. The food is amazingly delicious, the service is super friendly, and the price is very reasonable if not cheap. The portions are large...you will leave full!
The best quality is the freshness. You can see them chopping and cooking the veggies right there in front of you...and they have a salsa bar which totally ROCKS! (I recommend the green one, which consists of grilled tomatillos and jalopenos mixed with fresh avocado)
They have cold beers, and outside seating...and the service is quick. I love this place, I eat there frequently...YUMMY! Oh, and they have a Ft. Lauderdale location which is equally as yummy, but the outside dinning is not nearly as quaint, considering you are separated by only a sidewalk from Federal Highway.
Get the nachos!!!!!
Very vegetarian friendly.
They offer a 10% discount for Nova students, just show your card.
Very good for take-out!
Only downside is that they are only open until 9pm, even on weekends.
If you love Mexican food, I highly recommend this place! The food is fresh and high quality healthy at very reasonable prices. The service is fast and friendly and the environment is clean. They automatically provide you with a generous amount of warm tortilla chips with any purchase, even a salad. The various sauces at their salsa bar are delicious and mouth-watering. I love the fact that there is an option to sit outside, where dogs are allowed. In addition, Zona Fresca has beer available, which is definitely an advantage in a fast service setting. Amazing burritos, tacos, and salads. Yum!
Great fish tacos and chips. I put some of the jalapeno onions on the tacos
I try to come to Zona's everytime I am on a layover here, it's not too far from the hotel we stay in and the food is always fresh and YUMMMO!!!!!
I ate lunch here with a group of friends who have a wide range of food preferences - one is on a low carb diet, a couple of vegetarians (one is very particular about what ingredients she wants on everything), one who is watching their fat/cholesterol intake, and me - a fish taco freak (why are they are so hard to find in FL?). Everyone was able to find something they liked, the food was very fresh, and during the meal there were frequent comments about how yummy everything was - including the ceviche they serve on weekends only.
