I'm a pretty simple person in terms of style. I don't want someone doing crazy things or continually trying to get me to change my hair. But I also of late have taken baby steps to update my style and want someone I trust to help me out. Well I have been very happy with Ziva so far.

I see Heidi and she is very nice and seems very knowledgeable.  One time she called over a more junior person to show them how she was thinning my hair and the technique. It was interesting for me to listen too. I also like how she styles my hair afterwords since it makes me feel like a different person for a day. (straight hair instead of big and wavy)

I stay away from all the products that always seem so expensive in salons and I was also lucky to score some discounted gift certificates for the year so that helps the budget.

Oh and the location is great and gives me an excuse to pick up a chocolate treat down at Moonstruck or over at Ken's.

I use so much Bumble & Bumble product that my head might spontaneously transform into a bee in the near future. And Ziva is my dealer of choice.

As Kelly S points out, I just can't afford to get my hair cut here, which probably explains why my bangs have been slanted since I was, oh, about 12. But as far as BB products...this is as cheap as they get folks.

My one complaint is that they don't sell all of the products that they use.   For example - they can highlight or color your hair, but they don't have any of the hair coloring products to sell you. (Probably a good thing for me...note the 'bangs' comment above.) But I can see how this would be frustrating for those ambitious do-it-yourselfers.

But oh that amazing selection of Bumble...and bumble...and bumble...

I am a faithful Ziva customer only because I will follow my stylist Kristoffer to the ends of the earth...well, maybe not quite that far, but as long as he stays in Portland, I will continue to brave the seventh circle of hell that is finding a parking place in the NW 23rd neighborhood just to have him style my hair.

This review is more about Kristoffer than Ziva, because for me, Kristoffer IS Ziva.  I am never less than completely delighted with my hair when I leave.  Simply put, Kristoffer "gets" my hair, and for a curly-mopped yet fine-haired gal, that is no small feat.  I went a quarter century having my hair done by clueless folks who would squeal, "Oooh curly hair!" as if they'd never seen a ringlet before, and then proceed to style my mane into something resembling a lion's.  All that changed with Kristoffer, who listened to me, took one look at my hair and understood that I did not want to leave the salon looking like a 1980's country singer.

If you have curly hair, I cannot recommend Kristoffer highly enough.  He is extremely competent and talented in styling curly hair, and is charming and hilarious to boot.

Oh, Ziva.  You are not cheap.  Your location makes parking so difficult that I am usually 50% crabbier when I arrive than I was while traveling to you.  Sometimes the music you have playing on your speakers is pretty bad.

HOWEVER.  Those are my only complaints.  You do everything right and you are worth every penny.

I have been to three of your stylists over the course of my 2 1/2 years here in Portland, each more amazing and talented than the next.  My current stylist, Kristoffer, is knowledgeable, extremely competent, funny, confident, sweet, conscientious, asks all the right questions, and makes me giddy with love for my new hair every time I leave.

Plus your entire staff is *so* friendly and pretty much adorable.  And Bumble and Bumble is the greatest.

Oh, and also?  Thank you for sending me that card for a free service each year on my birthday.  I totally love you.

Everyone at this salon is very professional and service friendly.  I had my hair cut and colored by Lindsay.  She did a fabulous job on the color. I love it! Thanks Lindsay.  I only had a basic trim done so there's not too much to be said about that (other then it's always hard to pay $50 for a trim!) All in all, I spent more money then I think I ever had at a salon.  I got a cut, color (two color foil I think)  which totaled $152 (OUCH! - but the great color job was worth it and Lindsay was a pleasure to be around) then I also bought some products, which I've never really done at a salon before because they are always so expensive. I bought a shampoo, conditioner, and 3 other products.  My total bill was...GASP!!!! $277!  How did that happen? Oh well, we'll see how well I like these products and whether it's worth spending the extra money for Bumble and bumble or not. I will definitely go back to Lindsay for my color though, as I said, she was awesome!

I give only 4 stars because it was painful to spend that much money on hair!

Very nice place to go. Now, personally I wasn't paying to get my haircut there it was a gift for my b-day. I had Emily who styled my hair and I must say I really like how she did. She also suggested using Bumble and Bumble Tonic and some Bumble and Bumble styling wax. The Tonic smells like mint and I have no clue what the wax smells like, but it smells really good. So, I made another appointment in 6 weeks to further get it styled. I like the new look!

The hardest thing about leaving Eugene after college was having to "break-up" with my hair stylist, Candi (she works at Salon Rapunzel, and she's awesome!).  Finding a new person to entrust my unruly locks to was a daunting task in this town full of designers, stylists, hipsters, and funky monkeys.  I was scared I would end up with "scene" hair--not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not for me.  Luckily, my friend (a guy) told me about Heidi at Ziva who gave "the best head rubs" in town.  I figured, if all else failed, at least I would leave with a relaxed head.  I was completely blown away.  Heidi is so talented, and she has the rare ability to both listen to my requests and to know what I need without me speaking a word.  I know, this is going to sound mushy, but having someone take good care of your hair is a far too often overlooked luxury that I will never again take for granted.  I know that when I go into Ziva, I am going to come out loving my hair and feeling good about my experience.  Parking does suck, but I think it's a small price to pay.  I can only comment on Heidi's skills, but the other stylists I've met are friendly and helpful.  They even did my makeup for me for free when I had a special event to go to.  All in all, a great salon.
