THANK YOU ASIAN JESUS FOR ZION MARKET.
Seriously guys, i had been going to those smelly Asian markets on El Cajon Blvd for the past two years, and thought it was the standard to have things disheveled and smelly. But my buddy's Korean girl took me to Zion, and the order, the cleanliness, and the AWESOME selection, just went to show that these little crap hole markets need to take some lessons form Zion.
Their noodle selection is THE BEST that i have seen anywhere. In fact, after years of looking for a certain Korean noodle that I was addicted to when I lived in London, I finally found it at this store!!!
The produce is all very fresh and great quality.
The customer service was fantastic. They had 20 different kinds of kimchi, and I asked a guy working there which one was the best. He didn't hesitate once when he pointed it out.
They also make food fresh inside. I wound up getting some squid and sweet potato tempura which was tasty.
The prices were very good! No complaints there.
But my only complaint is the parking lot. There are not many spaces, and there is little room for navigating.
But all in all this place ROCKS and has AMAZING customer service. -

I have only one complaint about this place: the parking.
Actually, the parking wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for all the asian drivers! (I'm allowed to say that, I'm asian.) Every time I come here, some jerk or idiot aggravates me in the parking lot.
I come here for one thing: the korean bbq. They have some pretty damn good deals for their korean bbq, and it's a hit at all the parties I go to. People know that generally, I'll be bringing it.
The fish is ok, but not as wide of a variety compared to 99 Ranch. But, if you're looking for sashimi, do not get it here. Drive a few miles west to one of the Japanese market for better quality, fresh sashimi meats.
The produce is decent. I don't like going there on the weekends though, the produce seems picked over. There's plenty to find here, and I do love the bakery. I just have to remember to bring cash with me for the bakery.
All in all, try coming here on a weekday versus Friday/Saturday/Sunday, when all the terrible drivers conglomerate in one tiny space. -

Zion, pilgriming to you is a hit or miss: your parking lots are terrible. But I'm Korean, and quite stereotypically frugal, so I cant pass up on your deals. Sadly these deals are best on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, which equates to all other Asians flocking to save a couple cents. We're all the same! Our parents taught us well. Or your parents are with you...
But let me cut to the chase - your quality is better than ranch 99. And you smell better.
Sorry but true.
Pros:
- Relatively cheaper and bigger selection than other Korean markets in San Diego.
- Best sales are on Fri, Sat, Sun (check their website on Friday!)
- They have random taste testing sampling on Weekends!
- RICE IS CHEAP HERE AND SO ARE THE HUGE BOTTLES OF KIMCHI. YES. Typically 7.99 for 20lbs of white rice on weekends!
- Their banchan and marinated meats are pretty good. Just make sure you cook the meat in a couple days or it will turn sour. Or you can freeze them. Trust me - they will spoil quickly.
Cons:
-Their prepackaged foods that they make that day...are not that great. Especially the tempura. DO NOT buy these. Gross man.
-Not all their produce is fresh. It's not that great quality. If you want quality, go to your neighborhood Ralphs or Vons or what have you.
- YOUR. PARKING. LOTS. SUCK. ON. WEEKENDS. Just find street parking a little further away when you see endless lines. What a headache. Or come late at night on Friday.
Tips:
- Not all their sales are online. You'll find a lot more sales just walking through the aisles.
- Wear a jacket if you're sensitive to cold. Their freezers do their job well.
You know you've done a job well-done when you walk away with 10 pounds of Navel oranges for $0.70. Or 5 huge grapefruits for $0.40. That was epic. I felt like a competent Asian. My mama would be proud of me. -

In my 3 months in SD, this is the last piece that was missing -- a Korean supermarket.*
Zion is intensely Korean. 100% Korean with a few American products that Korean customers want. No Latino or Arab foods like H-Mart in NoVa and NY. Everything you want is here - meat, produce, super fresh seafood - fresher than at Von's or Ralph's and much cheaper. There's not only a food court, but a bakery as well. The freshly made, pre-packaged lunches are a steal at $5.99.
Parking is limited and Sunday late morning is apparently prime time.
For some reason I miss the rugby scrum in the produce section at H-Mart. Zion's aisles are wider and, despite complaints in other reviews, the other customers are more polite than in NoVa.
*Actually I am still looking for an Indian spice shop. Anyone have any suggestions? -

Mmmmmm Korean Food!!!! If I could only eat one cuisine for the rest of my life it would have to be Korean food!
I love buying marinated meats and all the banchan!!! Ohhh yummy little side dishes covered in sesame oil! Giant jars of kimchee, cheap produce, good ramen (not that crap you buy for $0.16 and any other grocery store), bottles of soju with the hot girls on them, Pocky, other crazy concotions that scare my bf.
I haven't found a favorite Korean restaurant yet so the boy and I just do Kbbq at home. This is your one stop shop for all things asian! Way cheaper than the Japanese store down the street.

I am going to Zion market every week, coz my company is close there.
Fruit and vegetable are so fresh and cheap.
My daughter like the salty port bornless meat, you don't need add anything, just cook it. So convenient.
But it's so crowd in weekend. Parking space is not enough. -

Before moving to San Diego, I had certain gastronomical criteria that I needed fulfilled in terms of my grocery shopping. One of those was that I needed to have a Korean market, or else my world would come to an end. Alas, Zion came to the rescue!
Zion is now my go-to place for anything and everything Korean. A typical run through here includes stocking up on dumplings, fish cake, sliced cow tongue, marinated bulgogi, fresh fish, fish cake (along with a bunch of other side dishes), Choco pies, cheap fruits, cheap veggies, and last but not least, Chum Churum soju with the beautiful Lee Hyori on the bottle.
People rave about Kyo Po up in NorCal, but this place is 100 times better. If you can't find what you're looking for here, it probably doesn't exist. -

In this area just about every week to do my grocery shopping and get that variety (that can only be found here) to make dad's yummy dishes! Organized, friendly employees and affordable. Hard to find parking at times so take advantage of the additional parking lot and hours during the week. Weekends tend to be the worst as everyone and their mama hangs out here after Korean church down the street lets out.

Review from Kelly O.
I work in KM so I go to all the Asian markets pretty frequently. Zion is a Korean market with fresh produce, a bakery, prepared food, a restaurant, fresh fish, and more. I like to get the prepared food to eat for lunch; you can get a hefty size room-temperature bibimbap for $6. The store is clean, organized, and the produce looks pretty good--- not like it's starting to get old like you see in some other markets. My dream would be to have someone show me around the store and explain to me what a lot of the stuff is.
Parking can be really bad at lunch, but at least people come and go frequently so if you are lucky, you'll snag a spot. -
Review from Trang L.
Zion is cool! I love this place! It's not a huge market, but it has everything I pretty much need. The best thing about this market is the marinated stuff! Legit! Soooo good! I also love their prepackaged pickled goods! I always get their seaweed salad because it's good and not expensive at all.
Their marinated meat selection is legit. L-E-G-I-T. I typically go for the pork butts (haha) or the boneless ribeyes.. so good.
I wouldn't recommend going here on a weekend just cause its packed. Especially in the produce section.. anywho.. fun place to go when it comes to Korean stuff. -

I like food
I like to eat
I like to eat healthy.
I shop around
First things first,
PROS
Cheaper Kimchi by 1-2 dollars
Weekly cheap fruits sections. ( I get my avocados here)
and my favorite, 59 cent enoki mushrooms,
What else to note. There is usually soju for sale for 1.99, 375 ml, thats 4 dollars for 750, 8 dollars for 1.5 L like a handle. Okay, 16 dollars for basically the same alcohol content as a bottle of vodka, and it taste better!
With kimchi, fry it with rice and egg, and you got delicious kimchi fried rice.
They also have seaweed salad and other korean side dishes here. YUMMY. I go here often, Here Mitsuwa and 99 Ranch.
One thing to mention, people like to get their korean BBQ here, i rather go to an asian place and buy the meat there instead and marinate it myself. It saves you 2-3 dollars.
They have a great selection of fresh noodles, but none with fiber :( -

I'm just going to give it 5 stars because if not for Zion, I would be a stray dog roaming the streets for leftovers. But don't get the wrong impression. :P
When I shop here, I fight with the ajummas for the best vegetables. Wait, that sounded wrong. xd
What I'm trying to say is Zion is great! I can find all the ingredients I want here. I specialize in Asian cuisines, so I'm like a kid in a candy store every Friday when I come here. For sauces, I can get everything from ponzu to hoisin sauce. For protein, I can get everything from sukiyaki to marinated chicken bulgogi. For pre-packaged foods, I can get bentos, chapchae, or kimbap. This is a Korean market, so every Friday and Saturday when the store restocks, the store becomes hella crowded. But if you want first pick at the freshest produce, go on Friday and fight for it. You won't get cheaper (or fresher) produce from an American grocery store. So be reassured, and go often! ;D -

Judging from this weekend, when I stay in San Diego, I:
1) Live in Ed Hardy shirts
2) Eat Kimchee all day
It's a good thing that I live in San Francisco.
I love this place though because I can get my Korean food fix and buy my 7 lbs of kimchee for $7.99. No kidding! Also, korean peppers are 3 lbs for a dollar on the weekends.
What is this madness? -
Review from Jenny K.
Super Duper!
I really like Zion Market for its fresh produce and cheap prices! The selection was very good, and ever since I gave up on the dirty, nearby 99 Ranch, Zion was the first Asian supermarket I shopped at for produce. The meat selection was also very good, and the thin-sliced beef was fresh and cheap.
There is also a very large selection of delicious Korean snacks! They also have a huge deli case of seasoned veggies and side dishes that you usually get at Korean restaurants.
It's 1 star from being 5 stars because the parking lot is rather small. Otherwise, I love it!!! -

if you plan on coming on a weekend, better wait until after lunch because it's super crowded from 8:30-11:30a. you cannot beat those asian moms that buy so much.
i prefer the marinated bbq meats. this place is the best for it.
produce is fresh and there are bags of fruits that are super ripe with variety so you can grab those, but you have to be early to pick the good ones.
place is tiny, it's a serious fire hazard, and prices are cheap and veggies look clean.
i would make this my first stop, and then go to ranch 99 located 3 minutes away for the rest of my groceries. -

Great market to pick up Asian food at very affordable prices. Really clean and doesn't smell like dead fish. The parking lot is the most confusing cluster F you can imagine. I recommend coming first thing in the morning if you come here on the weekends to avoid catastrophic driving.

Review from Doris K.
I LOVE this place. Do NOT....I repeat...DO NOT go there on the weekends unless you are ready to get run over. Everything is so fresh and the prices are amazing. Where can you get 4 pounds! of grapefruit for less than $1? Vegetables are crisp. Only downfall - the meat prices are a little high, their seafood selection isn't huge, and the crowd. I think Wednesdays are delivery days, so I would come then for the freshest produce.
-
Review from Andrew N.
I get all my Korean BBQ meat here. There is always a line on the weekends. There is always a line in the meat department. Parking really sucks around the market, but they do have an adjacent parking lot to park at. I buy the stuff to make the spicy chicken marinade here. I just buy my beef and pork from them. They have all the side dishes stock here as well in the open fridge.
They are my favorite Korean market in San Diego. -

well, this place makes me feel like a foreigner, despite the fact that i'm Korean. That's how korean Zion market is. Probably because i don't go to church (fail as a korean) and don't see many other Koreans other than the koreans at UCSD.
jeez, that's a lot of the word "Korean" I used in 3 sentences.
anyways, a nice place to get your veggies on. i buy meat at Costco. -

There is a really good Korean restaurant inside Zion in their food court area. The food is good, authentic, and not over priced like many other Korean restaurants who cater to many "non-Korean" people looking for Korean bbq. They have dishes I had while living in South Korea that you don't find on too many menus unless you're in Korea. I like their spicy dumpling, bibimpap, and jaejamyung noodles. Makes me feel like I'm back in Korea again.

My go-to Korean grocery store in San Diego. The prices are a little bit more expensive than what I am used to at home but most of San Diego is pricey. The marinated meat there is not bad at all. I use get the bulgogi or spicy chicken. I always love places that give free samples!!! Come here on a good weekend and they will be giving out samples of marinated meat, mandoo, etc! The banchan is moderately priced and they have a great variety of it. The produce is for the most part pretty fresh and they have a variety of vegetables.
It has everything I need to fulfill my Korean cravings.
Parking is a beezy and it is easier to park in the small lot across the street or on the side of the street. -

Good sales on fruits and veggies...
This is a Korean market.
Place is always packed with customers.
Find a whole bunch of cool and different snacks, foods, candies, etc.
They also have little stores on the inside - bakery, phone stuff, toys.
Parking is pretty tight and busy. -

Each time I've gone to Zion Market the customers a just plain RUDE. People just leave their unattended carts in the middle of the isles or angled retarded so you can't maneuver around them. If you have a cart and it's in the way watch out lol some of these folks will push your cart out the way haha i've seen people turn around looking for their cart and be like 'WTF where'd my cart go?"
Parking is still horrible...HORRIBLE!!
Their bakery is a'ight...nothing special to brag about.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This place is CHEAP, esp. all the veggies! and the little packed side dishes are pretty good if you get the right ones. Mmmm and who can resist Korean BBQ?
I do agree that parking sucks, but I have a secret parking spot that is ALWAYS open :)
And this one time, this little old lady started yelling at me cause I picked up "bad" squashes and picked out good ones for me. Super cute.
This is probably my go-to place for cheap Asian/Korean food and snacks! -
Review from Nina L.
Parking is pretty bad. It's crowded majority of the time.
This is one of the very few places (other than sushi restaurants) where I get sashimi. The prices are pretty low compared to some other locations such as Mitsuwa. They sell uni (sea urchin) here too! I love it.
When we're craving some Korean BBQ. We always come here to get appetizers such as kimchi and fish cake (something they serve at Korean BBQ restaurants) and the BBQ short ribs itself. They're delicious! Good quality and fresh.
There's also a little restaurant within the market. I forgot which one I went to but I had lunch with my mom. It was pretty good. They also have a bakery on the side which reminds me of 85 degrees, but more expensive. -

I like this place. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine. I'll drop by it every now and then when I feel like picking up some Soju, juice or just feel like browsing some food. It can get busy at times but the line usually moves pretty quickly. This is a nice market with an excellent selection.

Their selections and prices are really good. My mom is a Korean at heart and she will spend like no other on their marinated meats, cheap veggies, ready made side dishes, yummy munchies, and of course, the bakery! Whenever she comes home with the groceries from Zion, the family knows it's on for dinner. It always leaves us happy and full.
We love Zion Market! Yummy yummy in our tummies. =) -
Review from Ploy P.
I unleash my inner Korean and walk around "An-yo-ha-say-oh'ing" the crowd here.
It gets incredibly packed on the weekends but not as scary as 99 Ranch. Customers WILL move to let you push through but there will be no roma tomatoes left for you.
I'm a huge fan of their produce, incredibly fresh, large, and ALWAYS in great condition. You can get 2lbs of fuji apples for $1 or even sweet potato for that price at times. Also, their daikons are always so fresh! Their seasonal picks are the best bang for your buck.
Now onto their delectable banchans of all sizes and flavors. Here, you can get your fix of kimchi, sigeumchi namul (spinach in sesame sauce, but warning: a little tough to chew), kongnamul (bean sprouts), spicy tofu, spicy squid and sardines for large boxes not more than $3. They have korean marinaded bbq meats going for $8.99/lb and cheaper, depending if you want plain ol' bugolgi, ribs, or ribs without bones. They have a small seafood section but I'm thinking Mitsuwa and 99Ranch would fare better since they have more options.
Their bakery is also amazing, with their flakey almond biscotti for all carb-lovers and afternoon-tea drinkers. Pay as you go there.
My only gripe is that their dairy is a lil expensive, and their selection for rice is small. They have a huge section dedicated to spicy ramen, different korean versions of fish sauce and chewy juicy dumplings but nooo, let's skimp on the dairy. Maybe because it'll just take up the tofu section?
Overall, a great place to do your weekly grocery shopping. I've walked away here on some weeks spending $20, with my maximum being $60 and I've been able to feed myself breakfast, lunch and dinner. -

Zion is the only Korean market that I'm familiar with in San Diego. The parking sucks but it has most of my favorite items I buy at the Korean market.
The marinated short rib and spicy pork is great. Since I can speak enough Korean to get by, I am treated very nicely by the staff in the meat department and the bakery.
The cashiers tend to give me a weird look since I'm sure is not very common for a Hispanic guy to have a jar of kimchee, gakdugi, korean meats, chappagetti, mondus, aloe drink and random banchan plastic boxes at the register. They give me a "is this stuff really for you?" look.
HAHA!! I'm addicted to Korean food so this place is part of my grocery shopping spree.
There's a small food court inside which serves me well since I'm usually hungry when I walk in here. -
Review from Sharon V.
Oh baby! I need to venture out of North County more often.
How my family knew about this place when they live out of town, I don't know....but it was the reason why I ventured here this past weekend with them for the first time. While my pantry is usually stocked with organic items from Jimbo's, I returned home and filled my pantry with a bunch of items written in Korean. Nice!
It was tough to find a parking spot but we ended up parking across the street in their overflow lot. It worked out perfect. I thought it would be packed inside considering the amount of cars outside but it wasn't too bad. I liked that they had smaller carts to maneuver through the aisles easier.
I picked up a Bulgogi marinade that they were sampling that I thought was good. I usually make my own but figured i'd give it a try and save myself an extra step while preparing dinner. I also picked up packs and packs of those seaweed snacks - OMG! I love those things! Shrimp chips - the best! ...Korean crackers and candies that are so dangerously good.
I didn't purchase any produce here but just $60 worth of snackies. = ) I'm looking forward to coming back and stocking up on all these goodies again. -

Yay for Korean food!
Whenever I miss my home food, I go here to buy korean side dishes and Korean ingredients to cook up Korean food.
Their bakery is pretty good but not excellent. I think the green chocolate cakes were bomb as well as things with sesame seeds on it.
Their marinated meat such as bul go gi and gal bi are sooo bomb. But when you cook them at home, your entire house ends up smelling like korean bbq. Their soju is pretty cheap and their vegetables and fruits are fresh and affordable. If you are a newbie at korean food, make sure you get fresh lettuce, rice, ssam-jang and go-chu-jang and soju with marinated beef. You place small amount of Ssam-jang and go-chu-jang with a piece of meat and a spoon of rice and wrap it in the lettuce. Pop it in your mouth and you will get to experience the taste of true korean food.
Also, you can never have enough of asian snacks. I love homerun ball-- crunchy ball with chocolate core and sae woo kkang-- shrimp snack. They go well with beer too hehe. Make sure you try korean ice creams too. Melona and Bbong-Ddah tastes so good!Listed in: Sweet tooth, Korean food :D, Markets for groceries

The prices here are so affordable. I love their selection of fresh vegetables and there's always good deals on them too. I prefer this place over 99 Ranch or even Mistuwa, simply because the people that work here are so nice even if you don't speak their language (: and you can't complain about the price.
I always get their marinated meat here because its beyond delicious and its convenient. Their kimchi here is quite good too.
I LOVE THEIR BAKERY! hehe :D
Parking here can be a drag at times mostly when its packed. Their parking is very cramped so be careful not to hit anyone or anything when you're backing out! -

I love Zion Market because:
- it has everything I would need to make my favorite Korean dishes.
- It is closer than Korea-town in L.A.
- The prices are very decent.
I came here last Sunday because I was craving , , and
While I did not have trouble parking, the check-out lines were a different story. It was CRAAAAZY. Each check out stand had about ten people waiting and there was still a grip of people shopping. I think it is time for a location upgrade. It was difficult to maneuver through the aisles. Zion is in need of a bigger building. -

This is a very good grocery store. The produce is fresh and relatively cheap. Great variety. The bakery inside the store is pretty good, too - always fresh and inexpensive. Meat and fish products are abundant, maybe a little unfamiliar for the American consumer.
Every time I go to this place I get the sense of being in a real, lively store, with lots of people and a lot of good food. This reminds of my visit to Korea.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Korean Supermarket!!
Who can say no to freshly made kimbap?! And korean samples?!?! MUST avoid coming here on a Sunday after church hours because this place is PACKED and parking here REALLY sucks. They have a separate parking lot just for Zion, but that gets filled too!!!
I used to get their marinated meats so I could have kbbq whenever I wanted and it definitely filled my kbbq cravings!!! I come here for the cheap korean snacks that are so cute and also fun to eat! I like the ones that have the emoticons imbedded in the chocolate so I can get ideas to make new emoticons. =)
I also get their kimchi so I can make homemade kimchi jigae and yummy yummy kimchi fried rice!!! And of course bibimbap... ahhhh
AND it's a wonderful place to get yummy instant noodles like shin ramen and chapaghettiiiiiii ahhhhhh....
I was looking at their website and it said that they are open even on major holidays! That's awesome!! =D
I like that they also have those cute boutique shops and a random cellphone shop in the store =)/
Man.. I just ate and I'm already hungry because of all this food talk.... -

First word that comes to mind when I think of Zion Market: STAMPEDE. This Korean supermarket is always friggin' crowded, especially on Sunday morning after church lets out. If you are not particularly quick and nimble on your feet, you are most likely to get mowed down by an ajima with her shopping cart as she rushes to reach the bachu.
Fiery-tempered (blame it on the kimchi) Korean women on a mission to beat you to buy the premium options of everything aside; I am a fan of Zion Market's affordable prices, wide selection of prepared foods (especially the seaweed and namul), fresh and assorted produce and bakery.
Finding parking here is a whole different playing field. Wear a crash helmet. -

What it tries to be: Asian market with everything you need from marinated meats to a hello kitty umbrella.
What it is: Asian market with everything you need from marinated meats to a hello kitty umbrella.
Value: Really good.
Environment: Clean asian market with a small food court and random stores ie Asian travel agency specializing in flights to Asia and a jewelry store with tons of jade.
Would i go again: Yes, the marinated meats deli is AHHH-MAY-ZING.
Better than/Worse than: Think if it as an Asian Trader Joes.
Notes: Parking sucks. They sell all of the side dishes that you get at korean restaurants in small - large amounts, just awesome. They have these giant bags of rice crackers that have 9 individual packs inside, they're the perfect amount to throw into your bag for a picnic or a snack for work/school...and it helps to keep the entire bag fresh....soooo goood. -

Welcome to San Diego's PREMIERE Korean Market, nawt. I'd rather go to 99 Ranch but they don't have the selection that Zion does.
What they have here is your typical market with everything a Korean family needs. What I come here for time and time again is their marinated meats, my favorite being their marinated short ribs (kalbi). If you're in the mood to have KBBQ night but don't want to go out and pay a hefty bill for your party then go ahead and buy some side dishes here, meat here, and definitely don't forget your melon bars!
This place is super cramped so be patient you speedy grocery shoppers! They also have this neat little bakery right at the entrance of the market and I usually pick up some stuff, definitely not the best but still good. Also they require a $5 minimum charge for cards.
Parking here, you will definitely find, is horrendous. They have the lot that the market is also placed in and another lot across the street that is extremel small and poorly coordinated.Listed in: San Diego
