Meh, this lodge is overpriced for its convenience. The rooms were alright, but only have basic creature comforts like running water and power. Pretty much no frills, not even a TV! Not that I have a TV at home, but still!

Pink bedding was kinda weird, and of course, a gaudy flower print on the comforter. I felt like I was staying in someone's dollhouse or something. The shower never got hot after a few mins, so I cranked it up all the way and took a luke warm shower.

It *is* very convenient to stay here if you want to take pics at sunrise or get an early start on some hikes. Otherwise, you will get better value in Springdale and even better value in St. George. Oh, their wireless only works in the main lodge building and it's pretty slow. They had two internet terminals, but both were out of order. Red Rock Grill is in the main lodge and is pretty much the only place to eat inside the park.

The lodge is located just south of the Grotto trailhead, which is where the trail to Angel's Landing starts. A must if you are in Zion.

The food here sucks. The Salmon burger was almost passable, even though the bun was cold, the patty premade (and probably frozen), and the tomato totally unripe. But your "onion slice" is a single skin layer of onion, there's no mayo or mustard on it (had to ask for mustard, and then they just had crappy yellow mustard), and I had to watch the manager verbally berate our very nice young server because she had the gall to let two folks sit outside and enjoy their coffee on the deck. "we don't serve outside," she nearly shouted in front of the guests. The server was mortified, as were we all.

My dining companion had a roast beef sandwich with a single, 1/2 inch wide, anemic and rather wet (?) slice of roast beef - it was one of the most pitiful things I have ever seen. Their "signature soup" is a weak gazpacho with little flavor and a thin texture.

I would not go back here even if the food were free. The management (I assume whatever firm won the contract to operate this place) gives enormous lip service to being "green" all over their menus, but at the same time uses horrible, crappy vegetables that obviously came from a long way away. Why can every single restaurant in town offer better food for the same price? I think whoever runs the buying and menu creation here has no experience in the restaurant business...

The lodge is all about convenience, not comfort.  If you want comfort and value, stay in Springdale and ride the very efficient free shuttle into the park.

We stayed in the lodge cabins.  The  cabins are very small, and rustic...  furnished sparsely with two double beds, a chair, a desk, & a small gas fireplace.  Walls are thin.  Curtains are dusty.  Showers run out of hot water so expect a cold shower or two.

Other than the dusty curtains, the cabin interior looked clean, but we found a black widow had climbed into one of our shoes during the night that was left at the foot of the bed.  Yikes!

Xanterra, the company that has the contract with the National Park Service to run the lodge, has a VERY deceptive rate reservation policy.  They only confirm the rate for the first night you stay at the lodge in your reservation.  Other nights' reservation rates are subject to change and they don't inform you about those changes!  My reservation confirmation letter said I was confirmed at $166/night.   I was surprised to find at check-out that I was charged $174/night for each night beyond the first night.  I complained and was told that it is park policy to only confirm the first night rate.

The best part about staying at the lodge, is the convenience of stepping out the door and finding yourself in the majestic and beautiful canyon.

The Zion Lodge restaurant serves mediocre food at inflated prices, but it has location, convenience and a monopoly (it is the only restaurant in the park.)  I recommend riding the tram into Springdale for dinner.  Several very nice restaurants can be found there.

A remarkable National Park Lodge in one of the nation's greatest parks.  Xanterra does a fantastic job running this property and is the perfect haven after a day of exploring in the park.  The restaurant on site is fantastic--whether you are craving fine dining or a casual meal.  The rooms are perfectly appointed for a lodge like this....not overdone in luxury, but not missing any of the comforts you would desire after a long day hiking and visiting the park.  The lawn in front of the lodge is a sanctuary to just relax and absorb the beauty surrounding you.  A remarkable place to stay in a truly remarkable landscape.
