This was My favorite restaurant in the Metro Detroit area. always seems to be busy, even in the middle of this economic downturn, atmosphere is great, food is tasty Bistro style, good wine selection, nice bar area.I love the Mussels, The Seared Ahi Tuna or the Paella. At lunchtime Zinc makes a great Burger. just a fun place to have a reasonably priced well served, well prepared Bistro style meal!'
Sadly it just became the Red coat tavern & it is far from as good.Listed in: Best Wines

Been meaning to come here ever since it opened, but other places always took precedence. Finally wandered up Orchard Lake to give it a shot.
You'd think seeing a parking lot stacked with Bentley convertibles, premium trim Benzes, and Beemers (oh my!) would give the impression of a hip/happening joint. Then you walk in and see octagenarians with walkers and feel somewhat less impressed. I semi-kid - there were plenty of kids brought along by papa and mama too :P
I do like the atmosphere - it's constructed to be loud and convivial in there. The menu has a French flair, with plenty of borrowed references from Spain (tapas) and Italy (focaccia starter, which after all is said and done, was probably my favorite part about the meal). I thought my meal was fair at best. I did not at all appreciate their roasted beet salad (please see other reviews in which I wax ridiculous about my love of beets); the olives were incongruous and overwhelming, and the vinaigrette was almost sour. We appreciated the starter of eggplant, tomato, and mozzarella with a basil olive oil slurry, but my entree of sea bass and shellfish was a tad undercooked and bland.
Service was mediocre. She was slow to bring our drinks and disappeared for a good chunk after she finally brought them.
I'll pass next time and stick with Bastone. -

Great place for friends to meet up to enjoy, laugh and tell stories. The bar is Cigar friendly and the food good. Menu is similar to the Red Coat Tavern with the same ownership. Drink prices are on the high side but the bar tenders on top of their game.
Get more reasonable on drink prices and the stars go up!!!!Listed in: Best Happy Hour, Cigar Friendly

Interesting atmosphere with a mix of people smoking heavily at the bar and trendy hipsters in the restaurant. It wasn't too busy on a Monday night, but it did draw some crowd.
The good:
- Good table (corner booth, raised)
- The mozzarella salad
- The wine list
- The presentation
- The chopped salad
- The foccacia bread
- The creme brulee
- Nice staff
The not so good:
- The "napkins" which are really just dish cloths that they're trying to pass off as trendy
- The lack of taste in the Crepe Suzette (made totally wrong)
- The fact that we ordered and it took at least 30 minutes to get our main meal and then another 20 to get dessert (it was a late (like past 9pm) Monday night when we ordered)
I wasn't wowed. The food was decent, but the people that I was with said that it was much better the first time they were there. I don't think that it's any sort of great value either. I'd go back if I knew that someone else were paying. After all, I did really enjoy my salad and appetizers and my colleague thought his lamb was really good... -

Awesome steaks here. I went here with Angela because someone gave us a $50 gift certificate. The waitress wasn't too familiar with what matched well with my steak other than recommending a red wine. Luckily, her random recommendation made my steak taste good.
The atmosphere was pretty good. I wish there was more room between tables though. The couple next to us was fighting about 5 feet from us.
I see that Todd says it's cigar friendly. Now I know where to go in the winter time when I need to smoke a cigar! Woo hoo!
Parking is rare there during the peak times. You can park at the fast food lot next to it if the lot is full -

I went years ago and had an excellent raw bar platter but they don't have that anymore.
They do have a decent hamachi crudo with papaya and yummy huge raw oysters. My sis enjoyed their brut rose and then the filet mignon with frites. The bruleed scallops were good but arrived cold. The waitress was so sweet and brought us a side of truffle oil that I dipped the fries in. yum!
----------
Today I went again and had the raw oysters again -- great. The fried green tomatoes were fine. The burger was pretty good. And my family really loved their sea bass. They specifically asked that it be moist and not overcooked, and it turned out excellent.

I have to say, the desserts really suck. That's my impression from two visits this week.
Both the creme brulee and the chocolate pot de creme are not rich enough, are too sweet, and are both liquored up without any mention of such in the menu. The profiteroles are as tasteless as dinner rolls, the ice cream inside is average, but the hazelnut chocolate they smear on the rolls is good. The bananas foster is too sweet. The crepes in the suzette are very good but the sauce they drown them in is way too sweet and syrupy. The lemon tart is the most tolerable dessert, but barely.
Therefore, I am subtracting one star for the terrible desserts and for the smoking inside (cigarette and cigar). -

It is almost impossible for me to order something other than the burger here. It is the same as the Red Coat Tavern (same owners?) and it is always amazing. While the other lunch entrees are good, there is something addictive about this burger- no wonder it tops so many peoples best lists. Went for dinner and had the tapas for the first time the other night. Wow! Wasn't planning on eating tapas, but seeing the variety we just couldn't stop ordering. Tiny plates of sliced duck breast, scallops, lamb chops, octopus, shrimp, and more quickly became an extraordinary meal.

it was as good as it gets.. but they made a stupid decision to change the format to a hamburger joint. it has lost all that it had to offer.. good food , good drinks, good server.. i am so disappointed
