Note to everyone: This Ziggy's location is no longer dog-friendly. Per city health codes, animals can't be within X-amount of feet from where food is served. But that has no reflection on my review. Rules are rules.
I've only been here twice, and the other, I ordered from across the street at Boheme and they brought it over to me. Hummus is great, mac and cheese (with a dash of black pepper and hot sauce) even better; but *stay away* from the veggie loaf sandwich. Oh, this literally made me quiver. Tasted like bird food. Perhaps if it where sliced thinner (it's in a sandwich afterall) and not a dry slab of brick, it might have been edible with a dressing of ketchup ... but I just couldn't. My gf who ordered the same couldn't finish it either. And the "spicy tomato soup" had the texture of canned diced tomato stew and in fact, wasn't spicy at all. I just had a spicy carrot soup at Te House of Tea, and *that's* what you call a great soup. Ziggy's, please take note. Thank goodness for our side salads and mac and cheese, though.
Our server was very apologetic, but we reassured her it wasn't her fault, and we were fine with leaving semi-full. I've had other menu items (tilapia, chicken and baked squash) at the now-closed W Alabama location, and was pleased, so no major harm Ziggy's. I'll be back to check out brunch on the patio now that sunny Sundays are back again. Just not for veggie loaf and soup.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Nov 13, 2012
My friend and I were looking for a "healthy" lunch. I'm not sure how healthy this place actually is, but usually if I can get a sandwich/burger that is not too greasy, I'm decently happy. Also we were trying to do work and heard this place has FREE Wi-Fi and it serves food as opposed to just a coffee shop.
Not all the tables have power so scope it out before sitting down. But there was FREE internet. We opted to get a CHICKEN SALAD with walnuts, rosemary, tomatoes, arugula, and a LAMB burger with feta, tomato, onion. Both sandwiches were OK, as far as sides we had the SWEET POTATO TOTS and the sweet potato fries. I actually really liked the tots, they were packed with cheese? really good.
Overall, it was a decent spot to grab a bite and get some work done.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Tracey L.Houston, TX27191346Mar 1, 2010
AWESOME!!!
Came here for lunch Sunday (honestly, only because my 'usual place' Kim Tai was closed), and boy am I glad that I did!!!
The place was packed, but we were seated outside by our waitress (Heather--She was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!)
I ordered the Sunday Special: Stir fry-marinated tofu in a sweet spicy sauce with broccoli and sweet potatoes over brown rice with a side salad ($9) and it was DELICIOUS!!! (The BF even liked it, and he doesn't like tofu!)
I ordered their famous Carrot Cookie sandwich to-go, along with a piece of sugar free cherry pie and an oatmeal chocolate chip muffin.
The carrot cake cookie was o.k.--not really my style, as it wasn't sweet enough.
The cherry pie was excellent, as was the oatmeal choc. chip muffin. In fact, the item that I was sure to be my least favorite (the oatmeal muffin) turned out to be the best of all three desserts.
An overall lovely dining experience, with really really good food and excellent wait staff (Heather)! :-DHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 12719594213Nov 17, 2010
This is a small restaurant with a huge menu. Hubby ordered a Shiner Bock (a Texas native) and I ordered a Ziggyrita to get the evening started. Then, we ordered the Spicy Garlic Turkey Burger and the Homemade Veggie Burger (their own recipe with chickpeas, carrots and pecans with spices). Everything was delicious - especially the Macaroni and Cheese (hubby) and the sautéed spinach with mushrooms (me).
After dinner, we were enjoying the relaxing, homey atmosphere, and we were prepared for dessert. Hubby ordered the healthy Apple Pie and I ordered the Carrot Cake Cookie, which is both low-fat and sugar free. The Carrot Cake Cookie was incredible - it was like a carrot cake Oreo with a creamy filling, but not so heavy that it could not be finished. We left Ziggy's Healthy Grill very satisfied.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 12, 2010
The food is good. It's a fun and cute atmosphere to eat in. I love the Greek Salad, a side of Sweet Potato Fries, and a bowl of soup (the butternut squash soup is amazing...but only served on certain days). The chickpea burger is also VERY good.

The menu was sparse, with a small variety of sandwiches and burgers. I ended up ordering a spicy turkey burger, which was not spicy, and not flavorful. Very unremarkable, actually.
My server was awkward and pushy, obviously beat from the day and ready to discharge us from the restaurant.
Will not return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Danielle G.Montrose, Houston, TX111413Jul 17, 2016
Excellent homemade food and artsy homey atmosphere. The waitor told us everything is made from scratch, including salad dressings, deserts, muffins and margarita mix.
Love that dogs can dine with their owners on the pretty patio too!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marisa F.Fort Lauderdale, FL334259235Jan 18, 2009
"Hi, my name is Marisa, I'll be taking care of you today." As I go to get silver wear to go with our fruit cup, more water when we ran out of water, butter when it never came out and so on......
This was our Sunday Ziggy's breakfast dining experience.
We specifically ordered a spinach, tomato and feta omelet...Guess what? No tomatoes!!!
I asked to substitute bananas for apples to go with my pancakes, since I'm allergic to apples. The waiter when he brings my food, didn't even ask for the substitution because she I meant he brought me the apples anyway (regardless of the fact, I told him I'm allergic!).
My whole wheat pancakes were good, I think the omelet was ok?
They don't have fresh squeezed orange juice which is a bummer....but I would go to Ziggy's again if Baba Yega's and Barnaby's are much too crowded, that is how we ended up here today.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Karen S.Houston, TX239430300Jan 9, 2011
Don't you hate it when you showcase a place you love to your friends and they aren't thrilled by it? I need to apologize in advance to my friend...but then again, she didn't cook or serve the food at Ziggy's.
The building itself is very cool, Arts & Crafts architecture complete with exposed wood trim and original windows. The place even leans a little. (They should get that fixed--foundation repair on pier and beam is relatively cheap.) And it's got that freeze-your-butt-off-in-winter feature built in (it helps in the summer, so you can't complain too much).
The waitstaff was very friendly and they seemed to be hustling around a lot. I'm not really sure why things were kind of slow...I would guess the kitchen, maybe? It was a bit long of a wait for the food, but as we were enjoying our conversation it wasn't too bad.
We had 3 entrees, which was a bit of a surprise...there was some issue with an order and they offered us a free pork chop (probably due to my friend being such a regular). The pork chop was really good. Glazed in a pomegranate sauce, which was a bit too thick for my taste, but the meat was done to perfection. I wish I had ordered that instead! I was unimpressed ribeye special, but the chimichurri sauce on it was delicious. Fatty, a bit overdone (but still juicy)--I'm not surprised because really thin cuts are hard to get perfect. My friend loved the veggie loaf. Sides were ok (sauteed spinach and salad).
One thing I did note, which was appreciated, is they took steps to keep things healthy. Low fat salad dressings, low (or no) oil in the sauteed spinach and chimichurri sauce. It's kind of easy to bribe people with calories, and they didn't.
I think they may see some improvement as the owner spends more of his focus here with the closing of Alabama. I know I'll be back, because my friend will take me. Ziggy's is A-OK in my book.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Ashlee M.Houston, TX391067Dec 10, 2008
Called in my very first Ziggy's order last night and I am a fan. My order was ready in 10 minutes. Although I took it back home, I can only imagine what the service would be like considering how friendly the staff was. Maybe it was boredom because they were empty, but they seemed to genuinely want to know how my day was.
Split a Turkey Burger with Monterrey, a Buffalo Burger with Feta and an order of Sweet Potato Fries. I am really picky when it comes to the fries and I don't generally like them, but these.......... Sigh. I was sad when they were all gone. The buffalo burger was delish and I might have to get another for dinner this week. The turkey not so much. It looked really good, but had a very odd tang to it that just shouldn't have been there.
The desserts and cookies on the counter were really hard to pass up, and I don't know if I will manage to stay as strong next time.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
