How is it that I haven't previously rated Zibetto, by far the best coffee anywhere in midtown?  Expertly pulled Italian espresso in a stand-up bar with good cornetti (croissants).  Whenever I'm in midtown (which, these days, is thankfully rare), I stop by and get my macchiatto fix - you should too.

Note: If you want drip coffee, they don't have it.  They'll make you an Americano, though.  And they don't have any tea worth drinking, or other coffee shop like drinks.  You come here for espresso.

Was in search for a cup of much needed strong, well-made coffee. After yelping, my friend and I walked straight to this place, passing the chained coffee shops like starbucks, etc, determined that we want a good cup of gourmet coffee. Boy, our walk was a waste, and we should have just went into Starbucks instead.

Upon entering, the barista stared at us. Judging from the empty espresso cups on built-in wall tables, I could tell it's an in and out, quick espresso fix kind of shop. There were no lines, we took our time at the menu. The barista kept looking at us with an impatiently look on his face. I asked for coffee, and the barista just stared at me and didn't say anything. I repeated and he finally said "we don't serve coffee" in a unpolite manner. I stared at him and he looked down at me, and said, we have espresso only. I can make you Americano." I said okay and felt like he was judging me for wanting a cup of coffee...as if I'm not fancy enough or something. Nevertheless, I orderd the Americano and asked for milk in it.

The Americano was just okay. Don't think I'll go back because it's not worth it to be look down upon even if I have the money for a cup of coffee...I mean espresso.

As much as I want to, desperately want to, give a higher rating, I can't.  In my search for the best coffee bar in New York City, I came across Zibetto.  To be fair, I ordered three drinks, including the espresso everyone below keeps raving about.

I found the espresso to be pretty decent . . but quite frankly it wasn't anything special.  It could have have been significantly better.  There wasn't the unique taste that comes with a well made espresso and which differentiates expert coffee making with chain coffee making.

So if you're looking for good coffee . . . something better than Starbucks, feel free to come here.  But if you're looking for great espresso, I would recommend somewhere else.

If you've ever been to Italy and want a tasty reminder of the cappuccinos you got on vacation in Rome, swing by Zibetto for one and carry it with you on your walk in Central Park.  I'm not a coffee connoisseur, but I do love this hole-in-the-wall and I never hesitate to grab a hot drink here during the cold winter months.  I especially love that this place is always jammed even though they're right across from a Starbucks... I can't speak for the food and there's nowhere to sit if you plan on meeting up with a friend, but it's still worth stopping by to sample the smooth coffee goodness in the little white cup.

Service was very friendly and genuine. I didn't feel sophjisicated enough to stay and hang around the bar.

The cappucino was in a little bigger cup then they serve at fika but it was only half full, so probably about the same quantity or a little smaller.

It was good, but idk I guess I'd have to try it again because what I had didn't blow me away. Maybe, like nearby Fika, my preference in these more traditional espresso cafes is for lattes.

Does this remind me of an Italian espresso bar? Sorta... Is this a reason to get 5 stars? Nope.

The coffee isn't bad; nothing special. It is a small establishment, no seating room. All espresso drinks, no drip coffee, no fancy new age brewing methods. I can't comment on the premade sandwiches or seemingly purchased deserts, but the coffee is a step up from all the Starbucks that litter the city (including the one across the street). I would loved to have seen some more typical italian snacks and a little bit stronger of a brew.

Stepping into Zibetto, away from the hustle and bustle of 6th Ave. is like stepping into your quintessential Italian coffee bar.  The first thing you'll notice?  No tables.  Just a beautiful marble bar to enjoy your espresso.

Zibetto isn't a place where you're going to hang out and blog for four hours on free wifi.  Nope.  It is, however, a place to find fantastic coffee and a unique experience.  Squeeze into the bar, order a perfectly made  macchiato or Americano.  Have a biscotti.  Order another to go and head back out to the mean streets of Manhattan.  Enjoy.

after our afternoon at the MOMA, we strolled towards starbucks to get our caffeine hit for the afternoon when we were struck by this tiny espresso bar across the street.

"is it even OPEN?" my brother asked. yes, that is how inconspicuous it is.

i knew it was open and that we were at the right place when we approached the bar and had to walk past 5 gorgeous italian men, sipping their espressos in saucers and gesturing expressively in italian.

upon entering, i fell in love... with the two baristas working hard behind the bar.. with the lovely atmosphere in rubbing shoulders with locals getting their fix.. with the way the aromatic, rich espresso lingered on my tongue long after i had finished my beverage.

10 mins in this tiny bar and i was transported back to my summer in italia.

    amore.

Best coffee I've had in NYC.

After shopping and getting my goods, my friend and I stopped by Zibetta to get some caffeine. The staff are super friendly- the Italian guy making the coffee was super friendly, chatting it up with me- the other guy was standing behind the counter, just chatting with customers. The decor is cute/cozy/modern- a cool hole in the wall place for coffee per se.

I got the ciocollota calda. The coffee was made well- it had a strong flavor to it and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I would love to frequent this place if I lived in NYC. The sandwiches even looked good here as well.. Five stars for coffee+friendliness. Definitely a great night!

Un vero gentiluomomostra cortesia. Questo è un posto per i nuovi
    ricchi snob e senza classe.

peccato veramente. La buona cortesia non costa nulla.

    ----------------
A real gentleman exhibits courtesy. This is a place for the nouveau riche snobs who still haven't learned class can't be bought.

I was excited to share this place with my professor who was visiting, and was waiting for her at the cafe. A note: I grew up in Rome, and my father is from the Lake Como region of Lombady, I know damn well the rules of drinking coffee -- but there are worse sins than ordering a cappuccino after 10 am, and one of them is flatly refusing to serve your customers anything at all.

I'm really sad about the experience because I've recommended this place to many people, and have come here many times before and had coffee at all hours of the day. This time, the baristo refused to serve me saying "No Coffee. There is no more coffee." Even though there were a group of guys drinking coffee right next to me.  I don't know what I did to that he felt he could treat me like this, was it because I ordered in English? I was shocked expect this kind of discrimination from small-town provincial bumpkins, not in New York!

It's a sad fact of city living that great coffee is made by a total jerk, whose behavior is more appropriate on Jersey Shore. But why spend my money on a place that gives Italians a bad reputation? Good manners cost nothing.

Blink and you will miss this place. But keep your eyes open because this is so worth it.

This is a true coffee bar. You can stand at the bar and have an espresso (a really good espresso!) and a croissant. Or just take it to go. Run by a true Italian, this place takes their wares and service seriously. Their coffee is good and their croissants fantastic.

I took my coffee to go and was really sad that I only had one croissant. Should have gotten more!

    Incredible.

When I asked if they had vanilla, I got this "are you kidding me?" look from the barista.

When my latte arrived, I realized... flavor is absolutely not needed and I definitely deserved the look I received for asking about flavor.

    It. was. perfect.

Additionally, the vanilla croissant... holy moly. Heaven. HEAVEN!

Cash only - which is not a big deal but sometimes annoying.

Croissants are supposedly made fresh every morning - you can certainly smell the deliciousness wafting through the store!  They are good - but not the best i've ever had.  The outside is too hard but the inside is light and flaky.  It also seems that it is dusted with sugar so the flavor is nice.

I usually get a skim latte ($3.50).  It's in a small-ish sized cup but just not as fab as Porto Rico.  It does hit the comfort spot on cold mornings, but...just not more than a 3 star rating!

The inconspicuous storefront is located across from a Starbucks on a congested street within blocks of the largest tourist mecca of the world.  How does this place even survive?  Because of the unwavering nostalgia toward the authentic Italian espresso bar.  That's how.  The baristas are also prompt and professional.  You would be hard-pressed to find one with neck tattoos and a fixed-gear bike.

The espresso itself was pleasant.  There was no biting quality to the taste--mellow with chocolate notes.  The limited menu and lack of a drip station implies a no-frills espresso locale.  The all white minimalist decor and marble countertop also creates a serious but stylistic ambiance.  It's almost like walking into an Apple store, except instead of paying premium price for a piece of machinery, you pay $3 for a few ounces of liquid.  Ok, so it's exactly like an Apple store.

A lack of all pretension makes for an excellent place to satisfy that ravenous urge for a quick espresso without all of the hipness.  If I knew about this place when I still lived in NYC I would have come here each time I found myself near the lower end of Central Park.

The baristas are nice, very skilled and very Italian. The price is right and won't break your wallet. If you enjoy the traditional espresso bar scene, this place is perfect. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of larger cafes that serve great coffee and great espresso, while offering other small comfort foods and working areas, but I can't deny that these folks pull some great shots.

This place had 'DOUCHE' written all over it, as soon as I walked in. You walk in, and search for where the line begins. Once it's your turn to place an order, the uptight morons behind the counter treat you as if they're greater than you since they're in control of your drink.

Not one worker broke a smirk the entire time, nor had any conversation with a customer unless it dealt with money being exchanged. This place has very little personality, if any.

The drink was a joke. 50% foam in a "large" cup, which was slightly bigger than your average thimble. The taste was just not there at all, very bland tasting, and a bit bitter for my liking. It had a strong taste, but was actually extremely weak.

The place is decorated very nicely, but is so small, very difficult to walk to where the line starts.

Maybe I caught them on an off-day, because everyone seems to like them. But, Boy oh Boy was this a bunch of D-Bags, workers and clientele.

Big fan of the two guys who work here. Its the italian stand up coffee joint that fits probably 15-20 people. The prices were okay and the sandwiches and baked goods look amazed. you can watch tennis matches while you hang up your coat under the counter areas and stand around people watching or talking to the guy who works here. I wish it was closer to me since they really are super friendly and gave this tourist guy tons of great suggestions. I would def come here more and hang out and get to know the owners. The coffee itself was good, not too much after taste, not too bitter, didn't need sugar or anything. I'll be back soon!

I was really pleasantly surprised by this place, after all the reviews I wasn't sure what to think AND some people mistakenly pegged this place as a late night joint (why?) and served alcohol which I was quite confused at. However, this place is open from 7 AM - 7 PM and serves, as far as I can tell, authentic Italian roast beans. There's one guy working the bar and nowhere to sit.

You walk in and look at the peg-board like menu and order. It's served up in fresh IKEA looking cups and saucers and there's a tip jar for the bartender of this non-alcoholic establishment. The espresso shots are AMAZING. I never thought I could taste something that wasn't "burnt" tasting or sour when I had even the finest espresso. Of course, I'm no expert but it was surprisingly good to me. The latte was equally amazing and the foam was definitely different than most places I've been to. This is a worthwhile visit if you're in the area and perhaps even when you're not since the idea is so unique and the coffee is so good!

Hands down, Zibetto Espresso serves the BEST espresso EVER!

Took it straight, no sugar or milk needed - it was smooth, robust & not a hint of burnt.  We haven't had coffee this good since Italy!

Tiny shop with a long bar & no tables.....this is an Italian coffee spot where you take your coffee to go or drink it standing at the bar & that's exactly how it should be!

We stood there for a bit, enjoying our warming cuppa & watched neighborhood regulars come in & get their usuals, speaking Italian w/ each other & the barista, then dash out - coffee achieved

I can only imagine what creamy-dreaminess their lattes taste like & hope to make that imagination into reality very soon!!

Best espressos, cappuccinos, and macciatos in town-- hands down.  I can't believe how many times ive walked by this place, never knowing they were there.

Here's the lowdown.  Its tiny.  REALLY tiny.   With a standup counter and not a lot of room.  But its the real deal.  Italian coffee, a few sandwiches to choose from, really good fruit tarts, and if you love coffee, you'll be so happy to find this place.   My first time there, I walked out feeling like i had just taken a 20 minute vacation to Europe.  So romantic!

Of course, they've ruined coffee for me.   Every restaurant cappuccino or espresso i've had since has just made me wish they were Zibetto, and now their inability to make a proper cappuccino seems so much more unforgiveable.

Check this place out.   As good as it gets.

Very solid, very delicious coffee, expertly prepared.  Only thing is, when I was standing there with my good pal Steven V., I felt like we were waiting for something to happen. As has been previously noted, there are no seats in the restaurant; it's a standing coffee bar. Just felt like we were waitin' for something.

Maybe we were waiting for those very greasy looking European tourists that were in there to realize that they were about to self-combust from all petroleum products they'd slathered themselves with in order to achieve that greasy euro-sheen. They didn't, and it became apparent that they weren't going to. I think that must be the same mentality that makes them think wearing speedos is ok.

Ew. I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Dunno.  But the coffee was freakin' fantastic.

This is an oasis for good coffee in a vast desert of mediocrity. From the street you slip into a narrow, well lit and bright space. No tables, just the bar, perfect to get a morning cappuccino.

What I liked most was being able to re-discover Tuscany for a few moments before going on with my day.

The staff, nearly all Italian, are circumspect in their service and helpful. It's a real, not marketed or studied, coffee experience. Not Starbucks, no one's on their cell phone or using wifi. Just a very pleasant European / Italian caffe experience with very good coffee and treats.

    Dreams of Italy

Zibetto's is European style coffee bar, with a long white marble stand up bar where you can perch and sip your coffee. It reminds me of the espresso bars in Italy. Maybe that's why I enjoy coming here. The espresso here is excellent. Simple and charming. It's a great place to stop off when you are in midtown for a quick pick me up!

Total gem. Right next to the F train stop so when I'm popping out, or in, I can make a pit stop here for some of the best macchiato I've had in this city. No sugar necessary.

Step up to the bar and don't be shy. People hang around like a bar with money in their hands and the "me next" puppy dog eyes as the barista's do their thing. I haven't tried the food, and doubt I would, but for a quick caffeine fix, this is the spot for this past of town. A mid-town version of Abraco.

An Italian colleague introduced me to ZIbetto for my first truly memorable espresso.  I've never been a coffee snob and am usually very content with my Starbucks vanilla latte, but I can see now how great coffee can certainly be addictive.  My office is a few blocks away, so I visit about once a week on average.  My lattes - with 2 spoonfuls of brown sugar and 2% milk - are always rich and smooth in flavor.  My only hang-up is that Zibetto only serves its coffee in 8 oz cups and the lattes are so good that I want more!

Zibetto's paninis are delightful.  My favorite is the panini with proscuitto, fresh mozzarella and arugula.  It's lightly toasted and smaller than paninis you would get elsewhere, so it might not be enough if you're a hungry guy, but it's the perfect amount for me.

Service is quick but friendly (not brusque!).  It gets a little crowded during lunch hours, but the baristas are attentive and will take your order promptly.  I've generally been able to get my latte and panini to go in under 10 minutes.  If you want to hang around, there's enough space to do so even though it is a stand-up espresso bar.

This was a wonderful place to stop for a coffee. And that is literally all you can do: stop for a coffee. No wifi, no chairs, no array of cakes and pies to choose from. And heck, I like it that way. It really is a true Italian coffee bar! In Italy, people really do take their coffee standing up at the bar fairly quickly and go along their way. It's meant to be the same concept here.

But that would normally only get a place four stars. What turns it into five stars in my book is that if you are not used to this express-approach to coffee, the staff are still really great. There were two Italian guys working the coffee bar, occasionally singing for some reason. I walked in with my parents, aunt, and uncle in tow.... and trust me, they're kind of a sh**show whenever we go into a restaurant. Ordering anything is a confusing, loud ordeal requiring much repetition, strange requests, and changing orders. I was so embarrassed at a certain point because I was doing the ordering at the register and it was such a mess, but the barista just smiled really kindly, said there was no rush, and let my relatives go through the entire tumult that is their ordering process. They were extremely gracious to us, and my relatives enjoyed the well made coffee so much I didn't get the comments I thought I was going to hear about the lack of seats.

The coffee really was outstanding. I think only espresso drinks are available, I didn't see apparatus for drips or anything else. My latte had a wonderful head of foam to it, and just the right proportion of espresso to milk so as to achieve a perfect complement between both. I was very happy.

There's a small selection of sandwiches, biscotti, and such displayed behind a narrow case along the bar. This only work towards achieving that authentic Italian feel to it, as I had seen in Rome some bars that served pre-made sandwiches or pastries in much the same way. Can't say if they are delicious or anything, but I will tell you my coffee longed for one of those little chocolate cookies placed on the saucer. Maybe next time. There will definitely be many next times!

Note, it is super nondescript from the outside! You can walk right by it, it's that narrow. But it's right next to the UPS store, just pay attention.

The bar can best be described as a tiny, clean, white room that can barely accommodate 10 people - standing single file. The storefront is as unpretentious as it can be and you must have passed by it many times without even noticing. But, they serve absolutely delicious espresso! I love their Cappuccinos and Espressos made from Danesi brand coffee and served in ceramic cups. If Anastasio is in the shop, you are likely to find the experience refreshing. I don't particularly care for one of the other baristas.

I am amused by out-of-town folks who claim to have discovered the "only" place for good coffee in NYC. Sure, we don't have one on every block (thwarted by Starbucks' retail strategy), and we could always do with more --- but what with Cafe Sabarsky, Joe's, Reggio, Grounded, Think Coffee, Macchiato Espresso bar, Nespresso, 71 Irving, Ninth Street Espresso, Edgar's et all, Zibetto isn't the only place for good coffee in NYC.

It is excellent quality though and you want talented, decent human beings like Anastasio to do well in their line of work. So, sidestep the tentacles of the big, bad Starbucks directly across the avenue --- and enjoy some great coffee at Zibetto's.

I've gone out of my way to be at Zibetto since my first review. What I do now is have their Americanos which are INCREDIBLE -- and I pour my own Ronnybrook Farms (100% cruelty free - self-checked) milk on top.

I have to tell you, whether it's the evening time or 7-9 a.m. this place will always be packed. The atmosphere, however, is still as relaxed as it gets. And the Americano is beautiful perfection in a cup.

I urge you to have the cup to stay -- to go always misses something. Just the taste in the ceramic cup is incredible. I had some this morning and probably will every day before I head back to the motherland permanently.

Their coffee is the bomb. It's definitely Italian-style as it's standing room only and this is not a place to linger, just get your fix and go.

This is hands down one of the best espressos I have ever had. I usually like lattes but I get a doppio here since the coffee is so smooth and flavorful yet it will knock your socks off.

I got an iced latte and was not a fan. Being watered down with ice took away from the coffee experience.

I'm not sure about the biscotti and the croissants but I got a mozarella and tomato panini that was relatively small and it was priced at $7.50. Yowza, that's a ripoff for a sandwich.

Just stick to the espresso and you won't go wrong!

Hands down my favorite coffee place in midtown, as it's right down the street from my office and I've spent many an afternoon break at this "coffee bar."  You enter the small door, and it's an escape from the cacophany of traffic and tourists bustling on sixth avenue.

Now the cappuccino and espresso are absolutely phenomenal, a perfect blend of rich, silky and sexy flavors.

Let me warn you...this place is not for the taste-bud dead zombies who frequent Starbucks while ordering one of those multi-term-multi-shot-multi-flavored-frappachino concoctions across the street.  Because once you visit this place, you'll never go back to Starbucks and coffee will never taste the same, as your standards will have risen to a whole new plateau.
