I can't recommend the Zhang-Sah's Karate (and other martial arts) program enough. My daughter started at the program when she was 4 years old, and is now looking forward entering the next level group, Tigers (6 yrs. olds).

The instructors are fantastic. While mostly fairly young, these black belts instructors are impressive young adults, and show patience, kindness, and quiet authority beyond their years. I have never heard an instructor raise their voice, and they are loved by the kids. (a well deserved plug for go Chokio [teacher ] Marques and Chokio Vin)

In the span of a year, I have seen very shy children, develop a confidence in their own ability and through the support of the group. I have watched children with 'ants-in-their-pants' and short attention span learn patience. One of the most beautiful aspect of the training at Zhang Sah is that (older) students are asked to assist the teacher in younger classes, thereby learning responsibility, kindness, and showing respect  to each other, necessary for any teacher. The younger kids meanwhile see first hand the responsibility (and respect) that will be given them as they gain skills.

Finally, Zhang Sah mission is to strengthen the body AND the mind. My daughter often repeats what she has learned from the Sen-sei Salvatore J. Sandone outside of the school, making connections to the world around her (school, playground, family, etc). The latest being that to be a black belt, "you have to know how to listen", a lesson that will serve her well in all her future endeavors.

Final note is that the program is very diverse, while located in the predominantly white Bela vista neighborhood, the kids represent all Philadelphia, Asian, White, Italian, African American and Latino - equal numbers of girls and boys... A diversity that will make any one joining feel they have a place.

I can't speak to the Daycare program since we only take the classes. The monthly fee lets you choose as many as (3) classes per week. We do it twice a week.
