5 reviews for Zetti's Pizza & Pasta
We got take out from the location near North Campus. I was so excited because I've tried different pizzas around here and I haven't been happy with any one of them. I heard Zetti's was good within 2 weeks of coming to Buffalo. I had to try it and when the opportunity of "Where do you want pizza from" presented itself. I had to grab it! We had a cheese and pepperoni pie. The pepperoni wasn't the little shriveled up stuff that I see on a lot of Buffalo pizza - it was good and tasty. I don't know what made it taste so good, but it wasn't the hype because I'm often let down if someone tells me something is good. THIS is good. The crust is...I don't know how to explain it. It's like chewy, but a little crispy. My grandma would've loved it! :D
Other than that, this is by far the best pizza that I've had in Buffalo!
I tried their cheese & pepperoni pizza with the thin crust and gave it the pizza test. Held the pizza slice straight towards my mouth and watched the slice droop and all the toppings fell off. The sliced failed the test. In addition, the sauce was one of the worst I have ever had.
To be fair, I tried a slice of the Buffalo chicken pizza also, it was OK but it also failed the pizza test. Most people from NYC prefer the thin crust because this is what they grew up on.
I for one think any pizza where the toppings fall off is not a good pizza. I prefer pizzas made in Buffalo such as Bocce Club, Bozannas, Pesci's, and Pizza Works. Zetti's is just to thin! To put Zetti's in the proper light, it is one step up from the Great Northern Pizza slices which were the worst I have ever had.
For my money and personal preferences, it's some of the best pizza I've had in Buffalo. Zetti's comes the closest in approximating the New York style pizza. It's thin crust, crispy in the right places and cheesy, and more importantly, none of that nasty overly-sweet sauce I've had so often here. They serve pretty big individual slices, they are generous with their toppings (which are all of good quality) and it's never stale or old-looking. It might be a bit pricier than other pizzerias, but I think it's worth it. I've had some of their pasta and calzones too, which are also tasty.
AND, they don't cut a ROUND pizza into SQUARES. What is with that? Is it some kind of prank that Buffalo pizza places are trying to pull on their customers? I'm not laughing. No one ever eats the last slice in the middle, all drippy and soggy with no yummy crust. Would you cut an apple pie into squares? I think not. Stop the madness!
My only complaint is that their television is always tuned to Fox News. This is not conducive to my appetite. 24-hour news channels give me indigestion.
We got some slices to go from the location near North Campus.
One of the employees cashed me out, handled money, and then handled my food without wearing gloves. In fact, out of the five or so employees behind the counter, not one was wearing gloves.
It's a shame, because the food is generally good, but the unsanitary conditions are a dealbreaker.
Also worth mentioning was the fact that we asked for reasonable customer requests (plastic silverware, having our food to go), after which the cashier acted like we had greatly inconvenienced him and then stared at us as we walked out. He may have been having a bad day, but I'm not so sure I want to eat at a place where the employees make customers feel unwelcome.
Pizza is a geographical thing. People who grew up on a certain style generally think that style is the best. I grew up in Buffalo and love our medium thickness crust (as long as it's airy). If you are a NYC ex Pat then Zetti's is your place. It's definitely the best NY style pizza I've had in the area. However it may only be considered average in NYC. That's not a knock on the place, but more of a precaution to people who are picky about NYC pizza. The crust was chewy and light with a hint of crispy. The cheese was not of the highest quality, but still delicious, and the pepperoni was good, but not spicy. There was the perfect amount of sauce, however it was hard to taste becasue it was over powered by the cheese, it wasn't sweet which is a good thing in this case. You get a large slice and the toppings are plentiful. A few words of caution, this place does make a bunch of pizza, and then reheats the slices. Some people have an issue with this, I personally do not, in fact sometimes I like reheated pizza better. The reheating may in fact give the crust that little crispness that makes it so delicious. Also there is a $5 minimum charge on credit Cards. The owner was smart to put these near the UB campuses, he should get a lot of business from downstate college students.
