Review from Mike O.
As far as pizza joints and sub shops go, this is it - the baseline for which all others should be compared to. I've been into the location a number of times and it is like many other, maybe even cleaner if that's worth talking about. It's a pizza place; who cares? For the most part, this is a take-out of delivery establishment and with far above average promptness, your food will be delivered tasting just the way you had hoped. It's almost so deceptively good that you forget that you you're not eating healthily.
The pizza is much better than most others in the area, and the subs you could down without coming up for air. The calzones always hit the spot and rarely leave you feeling as though there's too much bread and not enough umppph. Apps look a little pricey but upon closer inspection, the portion sizes are more generous than other places and they flat out tast a whole lot better.
You can't really go wrong with Zesto's, unless of course you're foolish and order from somewhere else in the neighborhood. -

Updated review. This is my go-to place for pizza delivery. They're always prompt, decently priced, and the pizza is really good.

The food here is pretty good and the delivery times are not bad. The subs aren't great (not terrible, just not great), but if you stick to pizza and other simple fare you should be fine. Where they really shine is the specialty pizzas, which I would recommend ordering every chance you get.

I ordered food from here on a Friday around 3. It couldn't have been that busy. However it took an hour for my food to come. When it arrived it was cold and soggy.
I ordered Chicken tenders, a cheese burger and fries.
The chicken was over cooked and beyond tough. I threw most of it in the garbage, along with the fries which were sopping wet with condensation and cold.
The burger had a chance at being good. It had a nice bun and decent toppings. However like everything else, it was cold.
I am kind of pissed that some one could take my hard earned money and give me garbage. I say garbage because thats where most of it ended up. -

Good menu, consistent food. Not amazing but I'm not looking for amazing.
Just solid food on a regular basis. No disappointments, always good. -

Considering I work nearby, I go here pretty often when I forget to make a lunch. I've had the pizza, subs, and pasta. The pizza is okay. I know they're putting fresh ingredients so I don't mind the price too much, but the dough isn't extraordinary. The food is acceptable, quick, and convenient.
I think people should give this place a chance. I know it's going towards a local family establishment. I love the consistency and familiar face of someone working hard. -

interesting, tasty pizza toppings-- be sure to take a look at their combinations instead of just making your own.
I find the crust lacking. it's very bready, not especially crisp, probably bought in. it isn't really terrible or off-putting, (and I've definitely had worse), just not the magic that pizza crust can be. as I child who used to only eat the crusts, this is one I could leave on the plate.
the inside is clean and a lot nicer that your average pizza place. the guys working there seem nice. our pick-up order was right on time. reasonably priced. I live close, so I'll be back, but I don't foresee any major cravings. -

Zesto's has great deals and good prices! It would not be the first place that I would get food, but I've had food here a few times.
Pizza is decent! BLT not so good. (But, everyone loves their bacon cooked differently, and I really like my bacon cooked, almost burnt...) I will be back to continuing to try new options. I will be sure to give an update.
The staff is friendly and they are quick and always on time! -

I have lived on Boylston for 8+ years now... and back in the day... this place was called The Friendly Eating Place and was an absolute HOLE.
Years ago, it underwent a face-lift and reopened as Zestos. Thank the all mighty pizza gods.
They use good produce for their salads/subs- some of the best that I have ever gotten at a quick sub joint, and the people working there are very nice. Every once in a while they are turse, but I really don't go to get a calzone for the conversation that it might lead to.
Good prices (not wicked cheep... but the food is worth the extra buck), fresh foods and all done quickly. Seriously, who could ask for more? -

I have ordered from here a few times since moving to JP in June. I've reserved my review until I've had the chance to try a few different things, and I must say - thusfar, the only thing I haven't liked is their pizza - but I'm a pizza snob. I'm currently noshing on the chicken finger dinner, with seasoned fries, and everything is delicious. The portions are great, the seasonings on the chicken is perfect, and the honey mustard on the side is SO good. The price is decent, too, and they have a low minimum delivery which is great, since I'm not a huge fan of hiking it the mile there and mile back from my end of town when it's 20 degrees outside (yeah - not born a New Englander) or waiting for the 39 to come by and take me back down to my end of town.
That said, I will continue to keep Zesto's on my list of go-to take out places in JP. Well worth it, I think. It also helps they're partnered with Foodler for online ordering, so everything's always shown up correct and on time. :) -

Zesto's is great. I just discovered them a few months ago, and have been more than satisfied several times since--the pizza is good, the calzones are better, and the subs and wraps are perfect. They use these soft warm flatbreads to wrap a lot of good combos... love the mozzarella tomato and balsamic one. They're always surprisingly quick with deliveries and haven't gotten a single order wrong that I've noticed. I'd definitely give them 5 stars for the delivery part.

Awful awful awful service. I stopped going there one day when they lied to me and told me they were out of spinach to explain my it was missing from my "Greek" calzone and then outright refused to replace it.
Since then I hear more and more people complaining about the service:once a driver flipped out on someone when it took them a minute or two to find their credit card, a friend had to wait another 20 minutes after calling in for a sub because a driver accidentally left with it, a delivery guy straight up left with the food from my workplace because they were tired of waiting for the person to come and get it, and just tales of general rudeness. -
Review from Nico F.
Cambridge, MA
The four stars is based solely on the chicken souvlaki. In a word: addictive. I wish they would add more Greek fare to their menu to really set them apart from the standard pizzeria. Nice people, too.
The pizza, when it's right out of the oven, is very good. Not so good when it's been sitting. -

I eat at Zestos a lot because it is extra close to my house and doesn't require driving or delivery. I don't experiment much with the menu, but I can assure you that the Mona Lisa is one of the best steak tip subs you'll ever eat. I don't know what they marinate the tips in, but it's unique and delicious. When feeling "healthy," I go for their chicken caesar salad, which is also above average in both taste and serving size.
My only gripe with Zestos is their pizza. It's pretty much just average... not bad, but with so many other great options on the menu, I rarely opt for a slice. If you're ever kicking it in JP, and you need a bite on the quick, look no further. -

I can just wonder why Zesto's has only 3 stars here in yelp.
The food is super tasty; they are very generous with their topping if you ask. I have never gotten a order wrong or that didn't come exactly the way I told them to make it. They satisfy even the pickiest junkie food eater!
Their pizza is one of those homemade-tastit pizza that you cannot stop in your first slice. The crust is thick, but yet crunch without being over done. It's is incredible. The garlic bread is huge and has looooots of cheese. The burger is much bigger than average and they seem to know how much to cook by instict. The bread is ALWAYS fresh.
The delivery is super fast and customer service never failed. The times I stopped to eat in the place, it was super neat and the men who cook are always wearing gloves and cooking caps so there will be no unexpected *gross* in yout food. The person who deals with your money is never seen close to touching your food - maybe turning off the over and etc - never the food (A HUGE PLUS).
Zesto's is my go to place when I'm in JP and even if I had as many option like the one I do in Cambridge, I would still order from here if I was in sandwich/wrap/burger mood! -

This is probably one of my favorite fast food places in JP. My roommates and I order from here pretty consistently.
They have really good subs and their calzones are fantastic. Their chicken souvlaki is amazing and so is the spinach and feta pie.
The one thing that I'm not crazy about is their pizza, it's ok, but there are much better things on their menu. -

I love their bbq chicken pizza. We've only eaten at Zesto's so I don't know abou their delivery people, but the guys at the counter are always very nice. The pizza is served pipping hot and they generally have a lot of seats to spread out in.
It does suck that they don't take credit cards, but it is something you can deal with. Parking for here sucks, also because of the intersection that it is at. -

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews about service on here: our pizza came very quickly the night after Halloween, when I imagine many people around town are doing takeout.
We ordered the vegetarian pizza with garlic, it was good but not amazing like Bella Luna. They do use all fresh veggies which is more than Same Old Place can claim, but the crust left something to be desired. Not bad, just nothing special.
All in all a good pizza at a great price (five topping large for $13.25, way less than any other respectable pizza joint in the neighborhood). -

First, I have to respond to Greg M.'s review ... Zesto's does not accept credit cards (which has caused them to lose my business on several occasions). Oh, but I see you wrote that in 2006 so perhaps they took them then.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this place. The service has been off and on. On several different occasions when I've called, either no one has picked up the phone or someone someone picks up only to put me on hold and never pick up again and/or hangs up on me. Fine, I can excuse that ...
But the last time I ordered pizzas, they quoted 45min on the phone and then it took about an hour and 15. I joked (sort of) to the delivery guy that it should be 1/2 off and he gave me some excuse about being the only shop open and only having two guys there. Not really a good excuse for poor service.
Anyway, fine, we got our food. But then I opened the pizzas to find both were stone cold and one was mostly inedible because it had been completely overcooked. It was like cardboard with some burnt cheese on top. Pretty disappointing for 30 bucks +tip.
I will say that the guys are generally very nice though. And I do live literally right down the street and they haven't made me feel like an a** for asking for delivery (only on really really cold days, I swear!). When they do get the pizza right, it's delicious.

Tonight I got four pizzas and 30 wings from Zestos. The pizza is pretty good. It's got a somewhat thicker, but crunchy, crust. The flavor of the dough has a bit of character. The tomato sauce is a bit sweet but the hawaiian pizza was GREAT because they put huge chunks of bacon on it in addition to ham. Good bacon, too.
The wings were just alright. They're 50 cent wings, and for that I would expect the larger, non-breaded variety, but these are the little breaded (and heavily salted) wing ding variety. Mouse loves em. Me? I'll stick with the hawaiian.
The service is what earns this place 4 stars. Prompt, friendly service. Really nice guys. -

All in all, a pretty decent steak & cheese. Comprised of that loose mystery meat one expects from a joint like this, lots of melty white cheese of undeterminable type, and "the hots."
I was tempted to detract one star based on the absurdly epic delivery time, which resulted in a sub-room temperature sammich (nothing a brief stay in Hotel Oven couldn't fix). The only thing stopping me is the fact that I live, quite literally, less than 3 minutes walking time from the place. I have accepted that the 50 minute stretch from order to doorbell-ringing is in fact my penance for being the laziest motherfucker in town. -

I love Zesto's. The pizza is great and so are the spicy fries. The garlic bread was about average. The price isn't too bad either.
The worker there is really nice as well. :) -

Awesome Pizza, One of my favorite top five Pizzas in the Boston area actually. I have a friend that lives on Paul Gore and I was there doing some work there are not many places in the neighborhood that are any good, most actually suck, So I figured I would give this place a shot and I ordered an onion, pepper and sausage pizza I was hooked, It was perfect and I know my Pizza! I make awesome Pizzas myself. The next day I tried a steak onion and cheese another hit out of the park. So far everything I got was top notch food, fresh and tasty. This is the only place in JP I'll order subs or Pizza. It can't be beat this is as good as it gets in JP bar none.

I am not excited about this place. I got a tuna salad from here and then my stomach was killing me for the rest of the day. I can't tell 100% it was from the salad, but I didn't eat anything else that day.
My dad got some kind of special of the day- a sandwich covered in all kinds of cheese, some kind of meat and good looking bread. I am pretty sure that is the way to go though. Way safer than tuna.
On the upside: they have a good location, the outside of the building looks clean and recently renovated. -

I walk by this place pretty frequently and am tempted to succumb to the aroma of oregano, pepperoni and grease. One busy evening we finally gave in. No cooking that night. Pizza, instead.
Hawaiian-style with a side of chicken fingers, to be exact.
Our service was friendly and our order was mostly ready on pickup. The guy behind the counter even kept the pizza warm in the oven while we waited on the chicken. The pizza itself was all right -- fresh toppings, decent sauce, light non-greasy crust and the like. Basically average. The chicken fingers, though, were surprisingly good: no bones, obviously meat, flaky breading with a hint of pepper. Delish.
Thanks to the chicken, Zesto's is on my list for neighborhood takeout. The food didn't disappoint and the price was right. -

I will start off by saying that it is possible for someone to have an off night...except that almost the entire order we made was prepared incorrectly.
The menu was very promising but we were completely let down. Both calzones we ordered had ingredients in them we asked them to keep out and lacked a good amount of meat. We ordered a side of mozz stix. They told us they were running low so they gave us a discount of $1 because they left out 1 stick. But per the menu there are supposed to be 9. We got 6. That is 2/3 the sticks but 3/4 of the price.
My friends Turkey Royale sandwich was the only thing that came out 100% right I think. And it did look delicious.
Only because the people seem very nice and the food didn't taste bad am I giving it 2 stars. But in general, when someone repeats your order to you on the phone the exact way you said it and then messes up the order and overcharges you, that is not so forgivable. I am sure I'll try them again... -

Might as well eat cafeteria food (e.g. Sysco food services). I'm guessing that most ingredients arrive here frozen, in the same pre-fabbed container that you might find in every other greasy-spoon that aspires to survive on volume rather than retailing quality food products. Nasty. Some of the staff rub me the wrong way, as well.

I have never had a bad experience with Zestos. While the fact that they don't take credit cards is annoying, I haven't stopped going there because of it. Their pizza is really good, and their salads are a nice change since its not iceberg! I was certainly excited to find this place in my neighborhood.

zesto's is awesome. their subs are good. their pizza is great. it's true that it's a draw in terms of service, but when you do get the nice ones, they are so friendly and accommodating. two examples:
-once my friend and i were waiting for an order and the guy brought us a free spanakopita
-they just agreed to bring me a pizza. i am three blocks down the street.
ok time out--the pizza just got here and the delivery guy sat outside and honked four times. my friend was getting geared up to go outside and meet him because its so cold, and he came to the door and rolled his eyes at her because he had to get out of his car. also the pizza was burnt, it actually had black crust.
so i wish i could give zestos 3.5 stars based on food quality, because the pizza still tasted soo amazing as usual, despite the crust. i saw the same old place comparison in another review, and while same old place is SOOOOO awesome, go to zesto's if you want something thicker, cleaner, a little sweeter and a lot more hearty. -

Depends on who is working there. We always get the same thing; we get a large pie with sliced mozarella and tomatoes. If the dude is working, you get a great pizza. If the lady is working, you get treated not so good and it's a crap shoot - though never bad. I like these guys a lot and I am pretty hard to please. If you are in the area, give them a shot... but have cash because they dont take CC. Across the street CVS has an ATM.

Review from Quinn E.
I have been going to this place since they opened, since they're right down the street from my place. Perfect for halftime wings or those nights when I'm too lazy to cook. The service is a crapshoot, sometimes you get the grumpy old guy, sometimes you get the kid that chats and smiles. As far as the cuisine, it's a basic neighborhood pizza/sub/calzone joint. They make a decent chicken parm sub, the small will fill you up. The burger bomb is great too. The pizza is ok, sort of Greek style with so-so sauce. The sausage and meatball calzone is my fave though. Sure it's not exactly health food, but it tastes good and does the trick for game night or lazy bachelor dinner night.

We ordered a large vegetarian pizza and buffalo chicken fingers last night to be delivered via GrubHub. Our food arrived prior to GrubHub's estimated delivery time, so there's one star. The buffalo chicken fingers were pretty decent, so that's where Zestos gets the second star. Unfortunately, the pizza was disgusting. Somehow they managed to burn the crust on the outside of the pizza while the middle of the pizza was so soggy that it turn to mush and soaked through the bottom of the box. It almost seemed like someone dumped a glass of water on the pizza. The pizza was pretty much inedible and a total waste of money. I will not be ordering from here again.

Being a seven minute walk away great pizza and specialty subs are always at my finger tips. Real Deal is a similar restaurant that was recently established. Zestos BBQ chicken pizza is the best around JP hands down, but as I said Real Deal subs/wraps gives them a fair fight. I will be on my way to pick up my Buffalo Bills wrap. The space inside is ok for groups of 3-6 no larger, its primarily a solo spot or sharing a pizza kind of place. No cards the last time I checked, so BRING CASH.

Ordered pizza for delivery to work and they arrived just over the 20 minutes promised with a hot and tasty pizza. I used the special advertised on Yelp! The pizza was fine. I'm glad they weren't super late. It could have tasted better (thus, not 4 stars) and they should have mentioned they charge for delivery (thus, not 5 stars). But, for $8, the large cheese was A-OK.

Ive ordered from them 3 or 4 times since my last review. The trend is as follows: the food is pretty good and a nice change from Same Old Place, but every time, every fucking time, they manage to mess up the order. They take 2+ hours to deliver, the forget the soda, they bring someone else's order, they overcharge me. The food is pretty good, but dealing with the bullshit is not really worth it.

I called when it was an hour late giving them the benefit of the doubt and i asked how busy they where. the guys said not at all so i asked him why my food was taking so long and he said it was on the way. but still it told 1 1/2 hour later to finally get my cool ass calzone which was tiny i could have spent 3 bucks for a can of Chef Boyardee and would have been happier
