150 reviews for Zero Zero
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Todd didn't just fix my hair. He fixed my emotions. I had a bad experience the first time I went to Zero Zero, but the stylist I saw no longer works there and Todd talked me into giving his salon another shot. I was skeptical, but I am so glad that I went back!
I'm a bit of a baby about my hair. I've had basically the same haircut for my entire adult life and I was bored out of my mind with it. I desperately needed something different. So bad that I was on the verge of a breakdown. I have been in a funk for the last few months and I am in a good mood for the first time since December. My boyfriend asked me what is wrong with me when I got home. :-) All I could say is that I feel hot for the first time in about 5 years, all thanks to Todd. I was dancing around the apartment and made my boyfriend take pictures of me (one of them is on my profile if you want to see the amazing haircut Todd gave me - I'm wearing green and black and have HOT hair).
I got my hair cut twice in two days and made a giant fuss, but Todd had a great attitude and was cheerful about getting me the look I wanted. He was an amazing sport about it and I am very thankful to him for that. I don't normally trust men with my hair, but Todd has magic hands. He can do my hair any day.
I've been coming here for two and a half years, and I'm still loving this place. Saturday mornings are the best time to come if you're looking to walk in. After all, everyone's still curing their hangovers while you're getting your do.
Ken still rocks. He listens, he has confidence and he knows what he's doing. Great person to talk to about chicks and beer as well.
The prices have hardly been raised since I've started coming, and thankfully, the service and end results are still stellar.

Craig is awesome, I got an amazing hair cut for a very reasonable price. I brought in a picture on my phone and after 4 weeks it still looks great instead of the "omg i need a hair cut" look I'd have 4 weeks after going to a place with slightly less expensive prices.
He was a very friendly guy and clearly in no rush, which is of course secondary to getting a great hair cut, but both + reasonable price is very nice.
The place was very nice too, parking might be a bit tricky if you're driving but it was within walking distance for me.
I'll admit...I can be pretty picky, but ironically indecisive when it comes to getting my hair cut. I have pretty curly hair, but often times feel like I don't do anything exciting with my hair. I found Zero Zero on Yelp and decided to give it a try and decided if I wasn't hugely impressed, i'll just do the typical trim, nothing big.
I met with Todd and explained that I wanted to go shorter with my hair and had toyed with the idea of getting bangs. While most people are very passive and say "well, hun...do what you want." Todd was my ass kicker to say "Life is short! live it up. just get bangs and you'll love them!"
One week later, I can say he was right. I love my hair cut, loved the service and loved that he got me to take a risk and trying something totally new.
Totally geeky saying this, but I also dig their Web site. Pretty sweet that you can check out the stylists and get a feel for them before walking into the salon.
Great people. great service. Check it out :)
So ... it's time for an update. Please check my previous review because everything is totally accurate!
Joey has been cutting my hair for over a year now and I couldn't think of a reason not to keep going back. She's hysterical to talk to, she remembers all of our previous conversations; my boy drama, things about my sister, my cat, etc - and I only see her 6-8 times a year! I even saw her on the street once and she shouted out my name to say hi. Just love her!
Beyond how great she is as a person she's just really talented with hair. I love her cuts, I love that she takes the time to get everything right, and I love how I feel when I leave the salon. Zero Zero is definitely a gold mine. My sister has become a regular client too and she drives all the way from Bellingham!
The rest of the staff are also friendly and I've never had to sit and wait for an appointment or felt rushed out of the chair.

Such a Long, Overdue review!
I'm so lame like that. To wait forever, and ever, and eva to write a review about a RAD place with RAD people who MAKE MY DAY when I'm there. My haircut was so edgy and stylish and cool and was made by the radness that is Donna. She's fantastic with the short cuts!
This review comes belated because I got my hair cut an eternity ago, and it's looked great since then, but like I said it's been an eternity since I've been there, and I'm thinking about going in to the bathroom and breaking out the scissors and butchering my head because I need a cut BAD but am kinda far away at the moment to get it done by the lovely and talented Donna at Zero Zero.
But I'm saving up change for the gas to get there. Zero Zero fixes my awful razor headed mistakes. I will have great hair again, damn it!
Amara gave me the best cut I have ever had and my niece a great pink and black color with a cut and style to match. We both left with permagrin.
Only 4 stars because I wasn't treated well by the front desk staff, but over time I have relaxed about it. (My first review was a 1 star that I later removed)
So, I haven't gone back since my 1 star temper tantrum out of complete embarrassment. Maybe I will show my face again!
Came back again to see Donna and am super pleased with my new color and hair cut. I came in wanting a spunky short hair cut with some bright color and I left with exactly that! The color turned out SO vibrant and instead of streaks, Donna made it look more like some peek-a-boo panels of coloring so that the coloring is so much more dynamic than streaking the hair. The color itself turned out so vibrant magenta that I couldn't have asked for better.
The hair cut was also fun and I can't say this enough but Donna is awesome because she really listens to what you want and tries her best to meet your expectations. I wish I could pack her up with me when I leave for Virginia again in a week!

This may be one of my favorite cuts ever. I woke up with the urge to chop off my hair and called… Read more »
I love rolling the dice, you know? I used to get my hair done exclusively at the Gene Juarez Academy in Northgate, which was a fun way to spice up a day, sometimes an entire 4-to-6-week period of my life. I'd go in for a haircut, sometimes coming out with an amazing style and sometimes coming out with red eyes, alternately doing my calming breaths and repeating "It'll grow out, it'll grow out..." to myself. After my last experience there (which was sincerely in line with the latter) combined with an annoying breakup, I decided to finally be a big girl and go to a regular salon.
I turned to Yelp, looking for a place that wasn't out of my league as far as prices but wouldn't be sandwiched between a tax specialist's office and a shoe repair store in some seedy mini-mall in the middle of nowhere. Zero Zero had high marks and seemed cool, so I called and was able to get in the next day. I was booked with Todd, who is basically the coolest dude in Seattle hair. He gave me a cut and color that made me completely forget about whatever that jerk's name was, and on top of that I got a decent conversation about politics and 80's spandex metal. I left feeling hot and knew I'd never stray.
The prices are decent for the level of service you get. I typically ask him for something vague and then add a little "...but do whatever you want" at the end. Once, that meant some subtle peach streaks in my hair (which actually looked TIGHT)... other times, it's just a good, solid color and cut and I'm out. I tend to push it and sometimes go almost three months between cut and color, but maybe it's Todd's fault because he does such a good job and I can usually make the grow-out work a little longer than I should.
I always look forward to going in because I know I'll come out feeling good about my hair and not totally depressed about my wallet. Come with something good to talk about (I chose "http://gothsinhotweath..." and how it's not really summer until you drive around blasting Reign in Blood) or just grab one of their many magazines and zone out while you're transported to Good Hair Junction. Five stars!
I've been going to Zero Zero since I moved to Seattle two years ago. At first I was daunted by the hipster veneer, but Zero Zero has the most bang for the buck out of any hair salon I've seen. Once I cheated on my stylist at a place in West Seattle because I was too lazy to drive downtown, and totally regretted it.
Amara is awesome. She'll do you right.
And Jason is an industry leader in facial hair styling.
Ivan is my flamboyant hairstylist hero. He was able to pull off his first asymmetrical cut perfectly! Finally, I have found the perfect stylist!

Amara is amazing! She has been creative with my hair and never leaves me feeling less than fabulous! I take the ferry from Bainbridge to have the honor of sitting in her chair!
At the moment I am platinum blonde and NOBODY does it like Amara. She rocks! 5 stars every time!!!
It is with tempered enthusiasm that I thank Todd for my stylish new haircut. I'd also like to extend that gratitude to the several Yelpers who recommended him, saying "He can fix anything!"
When I came in on Monday, I looked like I had been attacked by a four-year old wielding a pair of dull scissors. (Actually, I'd just gone to SEVEN Salon.) The hair on the left side of my face was an inch or two longer than the hair on the right side of my face. I had random tufts sprouting out in various spots around my head. It was not good.
I was so afraid and nervous about getting another haircut, but Todd dealt with it well. He was calm and knowledgeable - and he came up with an action plan within the first few minutes.
An hour later, my hair was symmetrical. The random tufts were gone, and I had a sophisticated haircut with a flattering shape. Today, I washed my hair and styled it myself for the first time since the cut. I just used the diffuser on my hairdryer and some curling creme. In seven minutes, I looked just as nice I did when I left the salon.
Bonus points for:
* next-day appointment - I called on Sunday, and was in on Monday.
* wide selection of current magazines - I got to read the Anne Hathaway post-breakup article in Vogue while I waited. Sweet.
* appropriate conversation - I've had stylists unload personal problems on me, attempt to become my best friend, try to talk about my romantic life - Todd did none of those things. Thank God.
* magical fix-it abilities - The client before me came in with black hair. She left with a flattering, hip shade of red. That might defy science.
If you made the same mistake I did and got a haircut without consulting the Yelp discussion boards, don't fret. Just call Todd. He can fix anything!
Hello Yelpers - me and my gentleman friend just got our hairs did at Zero Zero and we are totally happy with what we got. We had Donna and Bo cutting our hair, and they asked us lots of questions, made sure we knew what we were asking for, and made sure we knew what to do with the cuts once we got'em. :) Totally worth it, definitely going back!
I am slightly hesitant to write a review for a salon I have only been to a few time but zero zero has already won my heart.
The first time I went I stumbled upon the salon while walking home. I had been on a "get my hair cut" mission that entire day but could not find a place that had an opening. Zero Zero got me in within an hour and I got an awesome cut after saying, "I've had long hair my whole life and now I want it shorter, do what you think will look good." I was sold on the place, but my next haircut seriously takes the cake.
This time, different stylist, my explanation of what I wanted was, "So I was thinking of doing a longer in the front, shorter in the back think but then I changed my mind. I like lots of layers. I don't know (wave my hands and fluff the back of my hair.)" After that award winning description I ended up with the best haircut I have ever had. My haircut was so good my ex boyfriend's best friend called him a few days later and said he saw me downtown and I looked amazing, especially my hair. My ex then texted me to see if I wanted to get together. Now that is great hair!
Zero Zero, You rock.
Went to Zero Zero today on recommendation after another salon completely butchered me. Donna gave me an AMAZING cut, fixing the semi-mullet mess I walked in with beautifully. I have difficult hair with a weird wave and she tamed it perfectly. In fact, she gave me a cut that looks fantastic both wavy/curly & straightened.
Thanks, Donna! See you in six weeks.
I went back to Amara a couple weeks ago. We were going to do something similar to my last cut, but as she looked at my hair she said "How about something asymmetrical?" I agreed, and holy crap. She's good. I love that I can literally say "do whatever you want" and then completely trust her to my hair look awesome. Not that I need further proof of her skill but today, I was waiting for my coffee when a random stranger said to me, "I love your haircut!" That, my friends, is evidence that the cut is GOOD.
I was tempted to redact her name from my review because I want her unique hair skills all to myself, but I like her so I guess I'll try to send more business her way :)

The damn stars can't go up any further but I had to update: I called today at 3:30 for a bang trim appointment and they got me in at 4 pm. No waiting, no muss no fuss.
My bangs were trimmed by the Grand Master himself, Todd. Not only did I get exactly what I wanted, which is hard ( I am the most difficult person to please when it comes to my bangs) but I also got a chance to talk politics with someone who has a sense of humor and actually listens to what I have to say.
And then when I tried to pay they said bang trims were free for regular customers. Wow, it's Christmas early! But then I didn't have cash for a tip. Sorry Todd, I'll hook you up next time!

Henry cuts my hair.
I can't go a day without receiving two or more compliments regarding my hair. Seriously. And I have Henry to thank for that.
$30 is cheap for a haircut of the skill level and experience that they throw down here.
When you read reviews about this place, you hear absolute praise or whining about hipsters and attitude. There isn't much middle ground.
Yeah. Some of the staff at the desk will mess with you, but don't be a total pussy. It's good natured. Mess with them back. That's how it's done, you whiney assed Seattle emo. Grow a spine. You'll need it in this world.
I was treated to a precise and skilled cut, some intelligent conversation, and some highly decent reading material for the 5 minutes I waited.
They'll be seeing me again.
Ken! This guy is the man. Especially if you have super curly hair. I went to him b/c my other stylist was fully booked and Ken got me in the same day. I've seen him twice now, and had my business parter who has super curly hair see him the same day. Came out excellent. Ken gets booked, so make an appointment!
I've been going to this salon for years now and recommend it to everyone I know in Seattle and even have a friend who when she visits from Pittsburgh, PA gets her hair done here!
They have never done me wrong. I've stuck with Desiree over the years and she's just a master. I can trust her to do whatever coloring fancies her and it always looks beautiful. And she always knows even without me saying how much to cut and where. She's truly a color and cut ninja. And on top of all that she's one of the nicest people.
The sad thing is that she's leaving for Las Vegas in February 2009. So I highly recommend if you love Desiree to get in before she leaves. I know that whenever I visit Sin City, I'll be tracking her down.
Thanks Desiree for making me happy to get my hair done.

Still going here, just got my hair cut. Ive gotten so many compliments on it, from my friends, and even this lady who approached me in the bathroom at my school. And my little sister says I have super model hair without the angry looking model.
I know that this review isnt going to be any different than others by leaps and bounds, but I still like the attitude, the people (Todd proves that chivarly isnt dead, ladies, go here and quit your bitching) who know what the hell they're doing and that I can get a haircut thats cheap and flattering for about 40 bucks before tip.
And I also want to give a give a big shout out to Ken for always being careful around my ears and doing his best to avoid the industrial bars stuck in there. Last time I came in, he told me that these were referred to as comb death traps (or something in that vein), and whenever I come in, he likes to give me shit (I give it back, so it all works out, and Todd seems to find it amusing).

It's probably bizarre that I'm reviewing Zero Zero given that I've never had my hair cut there. I'm reviewing it solely based on my boyfriend's haircuts. Not sure the name of the stylist he sees, but he does a good job. It's very important that the person you're dating have good hair. ;) I do often look around a salon and check out the employees' hair and base my opinion partly on that since generally everyone does each others' hair. All the employees here have great hair, including one person with the pure white color I myself dream of having that looks esp. awesome.
I came to meet jamz and had nothing to do so I was hanging around waiting. They have a fair amount of things to entertain a waiting person... magazines, of course, but also videogames, a pool table, comfy couches, etc. The staff were entertaining and fun to talk to. I actually had to forcibly drag him out of there because I was starving and he was hanging out talking nonstop with the employees.
Love it Love it!
Dez is amazing!
This is my very first review on Yelp, but I just had to put an end to my free-loading lurking ways to do this review. Ivan was my personal saviour during my birthday week after a hair disaster that left me crying like a bit*$ (something I haven't done since I was 9). I had my hair colored and cut by someone else/somewhere else and the first take gave me a long-hair version of a mullet with a halo effect. During take two, she tried to correct it by bleaching, re-coloring, and some more time with the sheers.
Ivan was able to fix the mess and I know it's going to look great as it continues to grow out. He did an awesome job with the color, it looks natural while brightening up my face, and it suits me. He gave me great advice for styling and protecting my hair. Also, he was fun to talk with and time went by fast. By the time he was done, my mood was restored for the birthday party that night. I'm definitely going back.
Joey foiled my hair yesterday. It has gorgeous honey blonde strands now!! I love being blonde!
She managed to figure out what I wanted without me having to figure it out myself.
Oh! I brought my finicky little sister...and Joey managed to figure her out as well. It truely was a miracle.

I love it here. [name not mentioned bc I want to be able to make last minute appts] takes good care of me for little $.
I like how I can tell her 'I'm your canvas - paint me how you want' and she actually has something in mind. Most people would have an aneurism with a statement like that, then screw up the cut something fierce.
If something ever happened to this place, I'd be a very sad and ugly-haired boy.
I'm not cool but I made an appointment here anyway thinking with all these great reviews, if they can't help me I guess I'll just have to accept that my hair, along with me, is so not cool. I walked in having let my hair grow a few weeks longer than normal to try and give them something to work with. In about 15 minutes Desiree transformed my lame barber shop hair into something WAY too cool for my dorky self. It was amazing.
The scene in there fits nicely with Capitol Hill. They were real cool about it and Desiree took the time to explain nicely to a salon newb like me what she was doing, why she was doing it and how I could replicate the style. She did exactly what I was hoping in that she listened to me just say I wanted something different than my current lame cut and she offered up some ideas. She cut it in a way so we could experiment with different styles. She helped me feel totally relaxed. Then she put some product in her hands, waved them like a magic wand and changed my life.
The true test, got home and my wife said, "Wow she really cut and styled your hair in a way that compliments the roundness of your face. I really like it."
I walked out of there a changed man. If you're looking for someone to help you change your style, go to Zero Zero. I'll be going back for certain.
Donna was FANTASTIC! I came in with a mass of crazy hair and walked out with an awesome haircut. Donna knew exactly what I wanted without having to interrogate me. She worked so effortlessly and efficiently that we were done in no time. I now have a stylist for life:)
I literally just came back from this place and I pretty much have no complaints.
I called earlier today (Sunday) to see if I could get an appointment and I sure did - with Craig. He was very friendly and sounded like he definitely knew his stuff.
So why 4 stars, not 5? I couldn't find parking! Also, I've been a little bit more conservative with my haircuts in the past which Craig kept in mind but gave me something pretty awesome/different..I like it, but its different. Ya knowww?!
woot woot my first review and since this is how i found an awesome hair salon i thought I'd sign up ^_^. With that said, being Asian with thick, dry and very coarse hair I've always had difficult time finding someone that can cut my hair to my liking. So I met Tony today for the first time, i was a little bit nervous (come on who isn't, my hair is my pride and joy) but once approached, i felt at ease since he knew what he was talking about and knew exactly how my hair reacts before I even explained it to him...now that's talent!!
After an hour, my hair looks fabulous and I haven't been this satisfied in a VERY long time!!
Zero Zero, you're my hero. I spent the first year I lived here trying a different shop almost every month looking for a place that gave a haircut I liked for a price I liked in a place I liked.
You make my hair look good, Todd keeps me yammering about politics and culture and history and whatever, and you make me feel cooler than I am with your hipster attitudes. Todd is my favorite, but I've seen two other stylists (cutters? barbers? both of those seem like people who make you bleed) there and loved each cut.
Even though I feel weird that I don't roll my tattooed butt to Zero Zero in tight jeans on a single speed, I love this place and don't plan on going elsewhere.
Craig is the best stylist in Seattle and I am SO glad he no longer works at skanky old Rudy's. Zero Zero is such an improvement.
Craig has been doing my hair for about 5 years now. He is simply great at what he does: both cut and color. I even tolerated Rudy's for him!
If you want a great haircut from a sweet man, check out Craig at Zero Zero.
Update: The owner just offered a cut to finish my back off so it looks good --- I have to get my work schedule but I will be heading back for a re-do. Kudos to the owner for doing this.
**I went to Zero Zero last Sunday after reading several positive reviews - I arrived for my appointment five minutes ahead of time only to be briefly acknowledged by the front desk person who motioned for me to sit down while talking on his cell phone. No word from anyone for 20 minutes. Talk about attitude...
I was about to leave when Ken came to get me. His shampoo was four star. He did a fantastic job with the scalp massage and said that he does better when he has more time (the reason for four stars and not five).
The cut in front and the sides is good.
However, the back is not hip cool jagged, it looks like it isn't finished at all! IT IS AWFUL!
When he finished I never got to look at the back while in the salon. My friend told me it looked terrible on the way to our car, but I wasn't in the mood to turn around and go back as I knew that the stylist was probably already gone (he was leaving when I left). Plus the loud alternative angry punk music had gotten on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, I like my alternative music. This stuff was really angry.
Anyway, for a wash and wear girl, it ain't wash nor wear. We'll see if they can fix it. Everyone has bad days and I suspect this is what happened toward the end of my cut. I'll be calling as soon as I find out if I have a day off this weekend for huge hair repair.
Decent haircut but overhyped. You can get a comparable haircut for about the same price in a number of different places around Seattle including any Rudy's, Ace's, and Lucky 7 in Wallingford.
Minus two stars because once I had an appointment and when I showed up (ten minutes early), the stylist told me to come back in an hour. I received no offer for compensation.
And there's always a person at the desk, just surfing the net. When you walk in, they don't even pay attention to you. I hate that kind of attitude which seems to be pretty common in these parts.
Todd is the man. And not the man as in "Damn the man!" but as in, "Dude! You're the man!" The first time I came here, my mom had dragged me out of the what am I going to do with myself/post-jerkboy combo depression I was in to watch her and her friend have their hair done. I was sitting on the couch flipping through their magazines when I whimsically decided it was time to cut my very long hair off. Unlike my previous stylist, everyone at Zero-Zero was in full support of it, and luckily Todd was able to take on the job right then. It was a drastic change but he was confident about it and I left looking awesome and feeling like a brand new person. Happiest haircut of my life, hands down, and two weeks later I enrolled myself into beauty school. My mom and her friend (who had their cuts and color done by Desiree and Amara, I think) were also quite pleased and looked equally hot.
I've got nothing but love for Zero-Zero. Kind and competent people, shockingly reasonable prices, comfy atmosphere, good music, cool art on the walls...
OH! I think someone mentioned the really awesome scalp massage with the shampoo already, but I think it should be mentioned again because it's seriously killer (in a good way). And I mean, I don't even like massages usually.
My husband got his hair cut here by Ivan last week. Theyw ere able to take us late in the day and at the last minute Ivan did a GRAT job on his hair - he's got wavy/curly hair that's sometimes difficult to cut. Not only did he do a good job, but he was quick AND the price was GREAT!!! It was under $40 for the cut AND tip (and we're good tippers)!!
The atmosphere is good - very casual, a pool table is a plus! TV, interesting magazines. Also, the people there are VERY friendly, helplful, and accomodating.
I will try them for myself in the next few weeks. My husband has another appointment already set up!
Highly overrated. I'd be generous and go with 3 except that "Meh I've experienced better" describes it better.
I got my hair cut a few years ago at a place called Artistry in Reno. It's so small it's not even on Yelp but they did a great job. I went to Zero Zero hoping to get something similar but that's not really what happened.
I had my hair cut by Amara. First I asked if she had any recommendations for my face shape and hair type. My hair was very long and I wanted it short and I didn't want to bias her by telling her about my old haircut. I'm up for something new. However, she didn't really have anything interesting to say, so I just asked for the same cut I had before. I didn't have a good picture but found a couple in the magazines that were similar.
A number of things that I think she could have done better--she didn't quite part my hair in the right place after washing it. She should have let me do that (she did eventually when I insisted it was parted wrong) since I will always part it my way after I leave the hair salon and then it will look funny.
She told me she was going to layer the back about halfway up my head. Instead she layered it starting at the bottom of my neck. I have a funny shaped head and this layering really emphasized that instead of hid it. After I saw it and pointed it out, she agreed and redid it.
She dried it but didn't style it afterwards, so I didn't realize until I got home and styled it that the layers were uneven. On one side of my head, the layers went up rather higher than on the other side and this gave one side of my even more volume than the other (it was already more because of the off-center part). Overall it looked funny, although that was hard to tell when it was all lying flat. Since she is a hairstylist, I figure she should have known this.
Take this with a grain of salt since it came out all right (not awful but not perfectly satisfied) and it was the end of the day on a Saturday so maybe she was tired, but still. If I hadn't been paying attention and asked her to fix a bunch of things I think I would have a pretty lousy haircut.
Bottom line: overhyped. They were accommodating but not particularly impressive.
Long story short: I've had the same stylist for the last 5 years and unfortunately she was booked for 2 weeks. I needed a cut badly but could not wait for an opening with her. I immediately scrolled through yelp and settled on Zero Zero. I was able to come in on a Sunday with the owner Todd.
To be honest, I was frightened- my hair was a virgin to all except my stylist. But Todd cut my hair beautifully and unlike many stylists he did it all with scissors instead of a razor. I'm impressed with stylists using razors, but if you don't work it the right way it makes your hair look sloppy. My hair was 100 lbs lighter and cut the way I wanted.
I now have faith in going to see another stylist, thanks to Todd. I'm definitely going back!
