Picture this: My husband and I were invited to join some friends at one of their fav local Italian joints in the Clinton area. 6 of us have a few glasses of wine and wander over to grub on some serious Italian food.

Shit! SubRosa is closed, due to a family friends wedding in a few weeks, so the staff is helping with painting...WHAT!

Everyone promptly busts out their iphone and or BalckBerry to search for the next nearest Italian place, because hey, we want Italian food.

Keep in mind if you will, our friends are pretty set on "minimizing their carbon footprint", so they don't often venture out of their neighborhood.

At this point, my dear husband chimes in repeatedly...In Lake O, we have 4 good Italian places within walking distance of our house!

Roughly 12 mins later, it is decided, we are all going back to Lake O for dinner, at Zeppo.

We are seated promptly, at a table recently vacated by a group with kids, so there is a bit of mess on the ground. Immediately, they jump out and sweep the mess up, and take our drink orders.

Waitress was awesome! She recommended the happy hour menu which looked amazing, and told us the only "dumb" thing on the HH menu was the steak. Said it was really good, but it was only 2 ounces, so...it looked dumb.

We all order exactly what we were craving, and add a few (3 ) bottles of wine, then settle in to enjoy the evening.

The few things that were noticeably odd (D.H. - Sickly sweet balsamic Caprese salad) and when we requested more Parmesan for the whole table, they brought out a thimble full.

Overall, service was great, the food was great, and most of all, the price tag was great!

6 people/3 couples: 3 bottles of wine, salads, and entrees, and each couple was only set back $60, and that included tip.

I call that an evening well spent!

3.5-4 stars for dinner.  Breakfast 1 star.

Dinners here have always been good or very good.  We love that they are locally owned/operated and they have been consistent at delivering good meals within a comfortable setting.

Cozy atmosphere, warm and curtained booths.  I'm so inclined to close the booth curtains just to mess with my dining companions, but I resist to avoid making enemies of those with sharp objects seating nearby.

It's been awhile so, from memory:  The lamb dishes are always good, pasta fair to good and beef/steak excellent.  Food is nothing fancy, just simple and comforting.

Service has been helpful and friendly.  Wine list is decent for selection and price point.

I won't go into much detail regarding breakfast, as it was a disaster (food is almost better at Shari's) and we didn't see anyone over the age of 18 at breakfast... And I know how well I cooked/served at that age.  Anyway, recommend stick with dinner.

First time at Zeppo's for my daughter and me. Good food, friendly service, a complete menu with all the Italian mainstays you would expect.

We visited at about 8:00pm on a Sunday evening and were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated, no waiting. Seating includes fairly secluded booths, open tables, inside and outside seating. Most people were seated outside; we chose inside seating.

Our server greeted us with a friendly smile, very upbeat and talkative, but still professional. She asked if we had any questions, told us a little about the menu, asked us if we wanted anything to drink. Water. She asked if we wanted bread and in about two minutes she brought bread and butter to the table.

The bread was delicious! Kind of a sourdough with pimento olives in it. Without the butter, something that tastes this good cannot be good for you!

We ordered The Wedge with Chicken and the Mac & Cheese. Then we waited for what I thought was a little too long. But the wait was worth it. Interestingly, most restaurants I've visited where there is a "wedge" salad, it is Iceberg lettuce. Zeppos's serves it using two Romaine hearts, uncut, with your choice of salad dressing, Ranch, Blue Cheese (very crumbly, which I like) or Honey Mustard, maybe others. The chicken was seasoned and grilled, served hot by itself near the lettuce on the plate, not on top of it.

Didn't taste the Mac & Cheese, but was told it was the best she's had; this from my adult daughter who has made it a habit to try the mac & cheese whenever it's available.

We stuck around for dessert, too, Strawberry Cobbler. I highly recommend, even though the sweetness of the cobbler was not as sweet as a traditional cobbler. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We ordered the cobbler to share and it came on a large plate in what appeared to be two servings, and two scoops of ice cream. I don't know what it would have looked like if we'd each ordered it separately. It may be they were just being nice or maybe it just comes that big, I don't know.

It's a little spendy at Zeppo's. We spent a little less than $40 with no drinks and a 15% tip. Sure, that's my budget preference speaking, and this is LO, so maybe that's a moderate meal for two here. Or maybe I'm just cheap? :-)

Parking? Very limited street parking, but plenty of parking in the garage in the same building. No charge for the Sunday afternoon/evening when we were there. They might charge during the week, I don't know.

Can't make this a 5-star rating until I return, but highly recommend for Italian food fans of all ages.

Have never had better service. I always sit at the bartop and the bartenders are so friendly and sweet! Definitely try the caprese salad or drop in for Happy Hour for a Margherita Pizza! I highly recommend Zeppo!

Hmmmm...interesting! We have found our meals here VERY good and the service to be very good too....

We have been many times and it is ALWAYS consistent and with very good portions along with a good wine selection and a full bar!

Our servers have always been very good! Maybe lucky, I don't know, but no complaints! Parking is easy and pricing is very fair too...

Go try it and see for yourself as we have always enjoyed it here!

I echo John C's sentiments. We came desperate for breakfast after being turned away by the Disneyland style lines at the Original Pancake House. Being hungry, we ordered pancakes and eggs, which were ok but the service was totally inattentive and didn't give us the same courtesy it offered to it's more buttoned up stuffy Lake OZ customers.

We will not be returning any time soon.

Had a late lunch here and the service was exceptional! We were a party of 5 who requested three baskets of bread. Our server was prompt and helpful and willing to deal with some indecisiveness.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I had the lunch trio - a panini sandwich, cup of soup, and fresh baby greens with candied walnuts. For dessert, we had tiramisu which had sliced strawberries on top and whipped cream.

All in all, a great meal!

My husband and I love this quaint little place in Lake O. It's one of our favorite brunch/lunch places. We love rolling out of bed on Saturday morning and starting our day here with amazing cup of coffee and lovely meal.

The prices are pretty reasonable and the food is always fresh and delicious.

They also have a nice happy hour menu which we decided to try a few weekends ago. The little risotto cakes were little balls of love. We also decided to try our first dessert and ordered an Italian classic and one of my favorite's, Tiramisu!  It was beyond good! The sweet light fluffy lady fingers soaked in golden rum coffee liqueur layered in creamy marscorpone and then sprinkled with cocoa powder  a swirl of whipped cream and strawberries will make any ones frown go upside down.

Try this place...you won't be sorry :o)

weeks before my friend and i were invited to dinner here, we were living off rice a roni, top ramen and basically every other cliche food you eat when you're broke.

but looking back on it, i can say with 100% confidence that even if i hadn't been living off the crappiest food in the world, i still would have really enjoyed my meal.

my friend and i took full advantage of this free meal and ordered two, yes two, appetizers-
+ bruschetta- which is now in my top three favorite bruschetta experiences ever (piazza italia is still winning).
+calamari- this is the reason for the missing fifth star. there wasn't a lot to it. a lot of fluff, if you will. too much breading and not enough meat. but hey, i still ate it.

the pasta was great (and i know my pasta). good size. nice and fresh. for me, it was a really nice final meal out in oregon.

sure, i left barely able to walk and i was considering doing the old unbuttoning of the pants routine.

but it was worth it.

Stopped here for dessert, the service was barely courteous, I guess because we weren't dropping a dinner wad on them.  The desserts were decent, but the espresso was lame.   Don't wanna return.
