Zelda's is great for family gatherings, birthday dinners, or a date with your secret mistress... The entire restaurant is covered by a black ceiling filled with tiny stars and your table is lit by a single red candle... so dark in fact that you may be tempted to crawl under the table, "Ooops, I think I dropped my fork, let me just go down... and get some"

Service was not as scary as others warned, it was quite friendly with extremely good suggestions. The boyfriend finally decided on pesto pizza with pepperoni. It was the best pesto I've ever tasted, very garlicky and finger licky good.

All the people giving low marks complaining about service fail to understand a fundamental truth about Zelda's. It really is Chicago style. I've been to a few pizzerias in Chicago and the service is pretty much the same. Rude and impatient. That's the vibe of Chicago. But you get what you come for namely kick-ass deep-dish styled pizza with hand-made crust! If the service is too much to handle then order and pick up.

Definitely try the Spinoccoli! You'll never look at spinach and broccoli the same way again.

The only reason I'm giving 4 marks is because the person slicing the pizza never does it in the center. You'll have really big pieces and really small pieces. It would be cool if the slicer used a template. :)

I think I must be mean, because when I read some of these other reviews talking about the bad service here ... I laugh. I know it's not funny. Well, at least it's not supposed to be funny. But the service here is so consistently wretched that if you're not treated like a jerk than something must be wrong with you. Zelda's is known for its snarky, elderly staff who precisely deliver F.U. kind of service with a smile. (Ok, a smile is stretching it.)

If you know this going in, I think it can make the experience more enjoyable. So, I take stars away from this joint, less for the bad service and more for their pizza, which I think tastes more like quiche than pizza. I'm just not a fan really.

If you want amazing stuffed crust pizza, go to Chicago Fire. One piece and you'll have killed whatever diet you were on ... for the week, but I'm fairly sure you won't be cursing my name later.

My hope is that both places have their niche and can survive ... both tough times and each other.

It's like a pizza dungeon.  It's dark, quaint, and unmistakably unique in Sacramento.  From the outside you'd never guess what lurks within.  The pizza is super good.  The crust took me a few trips to get used to but I've become a big fan of Chicago deep dish!  8oz beers for a buck can't be beat.  Parking is a bit of a pain.  I'd like to see what the late night bar scene is like in this place as the bar is cheap and has a bit of a dive bar feel to it.

I'm in Sacramento because my mother-in-law is in the hospital with her second broken hip -- first one, then the other.  All of you cheese-hating young ladies out there?  Don't be hatin' on the cheese.  Think of your bone density, and remember that after a certain way-too-early point in your life, you don't get to build more bone density -- best you can do is preserve what you've got.  Get your calcium, and work off the calories later.

Zelda's makes a good deep dish-style pizza on homemade dough.  We had some sort of combo pizza and another that was veggie -- both were delicious.  Zelda's could use a few more types of beer on tap, but the barkeep willingly mixed special-order drinks for the ladies -- Kentucky sidecars, substituting bourbon for the brandy that goes in a typical sidecar.

The interior hasn't changed much in decades, but Zelda's sure messed up the exterior facade not long ago.  They stuccoed over the rock-work and put up some piss-poor canvas signage.  I didn't even recognize it when I drove by the first time.  But still....good deep-dish pizza inside.

Remember:  Cheese is good for you, girls.  Don't fear the pizza.

I really wanted to like this place.  I really really wanted to but I guess I either came the wrong time or we just had a bad experience.

I came here with a couple of friends because a coworker suggested it as a place in town for chicago style pizza.

We got two pizzas: one was a typical meaty pepperoni "chicago style" pizza and the other one was a pesto "chicago style" pizza.  The pizza sucked and the serviced sucked more.

First off the pizzas (too me) did not taste or looked like anything resembling a "chicago style" pizza.  It tasted like pepperoni atop warm cardboard.  I can't say that I'm a professional pizza identifier/taster/critic but this pizza didn't taste any better than something you'd buy and cook yourself at home.  Second, our server for some reason had an attitude problem.  Then at the end of the meal, the server tried to sneak a fast one on us by adding gratuity our bill, when we were one person shy of gratuity added rule on the menu.

I really wanted to like this place, but this place fails in so many ways.

I don't know if all my memories coming here as a child makes it seem better than it really is.... but this is my favorite pizza joint of all time.

It's funny when I try to tell people about this place.  "You know bob, its like a seedy dive bar that decided to serve really bomb deep dish pizza, but forgot that your supposed to take down the Christmas decorations after Christmas."

The waitresses here are by no means your typical waitress.  I don't think I have ever had the average age of the waitress be that old anywhere else... and all those years of serving pizza has made them lack the attention to service and attitude.

Don't let the attitudes scare you, it's all part of the Zelda experience!

Ohh yeah.... the pizza is AMAZING!  My favorite is the pesto pizza.

You know what I think happens to me sometimes?  I think patrons will hype a place up soooo much that I will have an unrealistic expectation that cannot possibly be met. by said establishment  It's kind of like the Guns 'n' Roses reunion album.  It's been built up so much that you are expecting a miracle, and they can't help but NOT deliver.  Is that a useful comparison?  I don't know...

I have to start by stating that I like Zelda's atmosphere.  I like places that feel like Christmas, even when it's not Christmas.  It looks like a seedy dive inside, and, consequently, has all kinds of characters in there.  As a general rule, I enjoy this kind of atmosphere.  It's super fun to mess with crazy bar regulars, or just crazies in general.

I thought the service at the bar was pretty good.  I like a man that keeps my beer full, yo.

We finally got moved to a table, where we proceeded to wait about a friggin month for our pizza.  Even though I ordered the special salad (which was crazy delicious), I was about to go bananas.   One of my worst characteristics is that I have NO patience.  If I had been billing those hours, it wouldn't have been cheap.  (I'm just totally kidding).  Also, I could not get another drink from our server if my life depended on it.  When she finally came around to see what we needed, some of us (ahem, not me of course) ordered more than one drink at a time for fear that she would never ask again.

The thing is, even though the service is kinda, um, slow, you gotta love it.  I don't think I saw one server under 45 years old.  I dig it!  And also, these servers are no-frills.  They are not mean, but they are all business.  They're not going to kiss your ass, they're not going to sugar coat their answers to your questions, and they aren't going to act pleasant when you do something irritating (i.e. modify the bejesus out of your salad).

The pizza is pretty good.  However, Zachary's in Oakland/Piedmont kicks Zelda's ass, deep dish wise-I'm sorry to report.  Not bad, however!  I would definitely try Zelda's again.  However, maybe next time I will take their website's advice and call in my order ahead of time.

Hooray! Zelda's (finally) takes plastic! With this newly-found info, husband and I ordered more than my paltry $25 cash-in-wallet allowed.

A fellow Yelper told me about their cheesy artichoke dip. At $6, you cannot go wrong. It is like a mini artichoke pizza with corn chips. Soooo good. Don't go ordering this thinking that you can snack on this while waiting (and waiting and waiting) for your pizza to come out. They arrive at almost the same time.

I really felt old when I calculated that I've been coming here for over 22 years. Egad! Not much has changed. Twinkling rainbow mini lights - check. Dark cavernous ambiance - check. Wooden cozy booths - check. Oh! One thing has changed (besides accepting credit cards), the service has definitely improved.

Terrible. I've been here three times and this time solidified why I think Zeldas sucks a**  The service was ridiculously slow and rude even though we called ahead for our pizza so we can reserve seating. Our hostess brings us over to our table and this lady setting the table said "she's seating you here"? We sit down, she takes 15 min just to approach us, doesn't say hi, just asks what we want to drink. One of the 6 year olds told her rootbeer and she snaps "WHAT? CAN'T HEAR YOU"! She doesn't ask if we wanted salads, appetizers... NADA. The ONLY time she was overly nice and helpful was when we got the bill and were throwing down our cash... none extra for you hon... too bad, so sad.
Now, let's talk food. GREASY, borderline disturbing. The crust tasted like cornmeal and shortening and it was just bad. Not to mention I have had the worst heartburn for three hours now. MMM MMM Good! Nothing like burpin up the nightmare dinner you wanted to forget.
If you are wanting to venture out to a place that will piss you off, make you wait for a gazillion hours for water, give you rot gut and burn a hole in your wallet.... Zelda's the place.

went here for dinner for the first time last night, i have lived in downtown for 10 years and i didn't even know about this place, wish i have know sooner! the pizza was pretty good, not the best i ever had, but still very good. actually the thing i loved the most from here was the buffalo wings! the wings came out piping hot and had crispy skin, but so soft and tender inside. i would come back just for the wings!
the only bad thing about this place is the service. we sat down for about 15 minutes before someone came to get our order, and i felt she was rushing us to make an order. and the food took a while to get here. but other then service the place was good. i guess it's a family run restaurant, so they don't want to hire other people? who knows. but either way the food here is awesome!

Really can't add a whole lot to 180+ reviews, but man, I love (and miss) Zelda's Pizza.  I moved to San Diego awhile ago and every time in Sac (which is infrequent these days) I really try to make it to Zelda's.

The Spinoccoli RULES!  Never been to Chicago so I can't compare--but I haven't had pizza like this anywhere else.

The service can definitely be slow.  I guess it takes forever to cook these pizzas and you can wait a good long time for one.  It's worth it!

Damn, I wish I could go there right now.

Zelda's is going to get 3 stars from me, mainly because I recognize it as a Sacramento institution and I think everyone who visits the midtown area of Sacramento should experience its quaint jankyness for themselves.

As for the food, well...I guess it's an acquired taste. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of pizza. I've often thought that gourmet pizza is about as absurd a concept as Mexican cuisine. But I do know Chicago-style pizza fairly well from having traveled there frequently on business. Let me say that if you too know and appreciate the pizza from Chicago's Pizzeria Uno or Gino's Restaurant, you will be sorely disappointed with Zelda's interpretation.

Nevertheless, at Zelda's the ambiance is the thing, and there's that aplenty. The restaurant is divided into a lively bar and a separate dining room that contains tables and booths. Overall, it looks like a place that's been around forever, so I had to wonder why the service seemed so inept.

For example, we ordered an appetizer of Buffalo Wings right away, because we were too hungry to wait for our pizza order. Big mistake, as it took about 45 minutes for the wings to arrive at the table. One look, and we could tell someone had forgotten all about them. They were burnt to a char. My mother used to say "a little bit of carbon is good for your stomach," but that's because she was one of the world's worst cooks. In any case, we were so hungry, we used my mother's words as our rationale for eating our chicken-flavored briquettes. We literally ended up with carbon-black around our mouths. Fortunately, our waitress sympathized with our plight and deducted the wings from our bill.

The restaurant was packed the day we were there, and as we were leaving, there was a long line stretching out the door. Apparently, this restaurant has found a place in the hearts and minds of many midtown locals, who seem to relish its old-timey, family friendly vibe. Too bad the food isn't nearly as inviting.

She:  Only a place like Zelda's would: require you to order *before* you are seated; offer you gut-busting deep-dish pizza that makes you regret being born; and have 168 fucking reviews.

Zelda's is known for the attitude (old school), pizza (greasy deep), and bar (dark crowded). It's a favorite haunt of ours for all three reasons.

What is perhaps little known about Zelda's is that their hot wings are delicious and served finger-scathing hot. Hot! Crap! Hot! You want to eat them but unless you have thick calloused fingertips you've got to wait for them to cool. So drink! Great full bar - vodka, anyone?

The husband swears the cheeseburgers are freaktacularly amazing. All I know is that they are red in the center if thats the way you wan'em.

I'm a fan of Zelda's. Not for every night (not if you want to keep the girlish figure) but for every once in a full moon, this is the place you can find me, drinking, eating, and howling.

Hot tip: used to be cash only, but sweet Zelda's is now credit card friendly. Swipe my stripe!

Him:
Indeed the cheeseburger is great (even with no choice of cheese offered). Its the kind that is far too tall to force into one's gaping maw and, as is typical of this type, it falls apart quickly. I actually lost the bottom bun somewhere in the mix.

Service is a crap shoot. There are friendly, epicurean cheerleaders and bitter, old mountainous matriarchs. The sassy, even abusive tone that Zelda herself delivered was charming and many of us miss her. Even the California legislators took the day off when she passed away. All in all, its a satisfying dive that makes us feel welcome and, in an inexplicable way, descendants of Zelda. Its a Sac standard that we all should familiarize ourselves with.

I moved out to sac a out 6 years ago from the Chicago area. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to "Chicago style" pizza. THIS is the closest you're gonna get here.

Chicago Fire is ok only if you get their "stuffed"

And screw BJ pizza...that's a joke to call it Chicago style.

Zelda's is as legit as it gets out here.

Chicago Pizza with the Chicago attitude. "Get over it. Whattaya want!"

Zelda's has always been over-hyped to me. I am lucky enough to have a spouse that agrees. When I moved into midtown about 10 years ago people were in full Zelda worshiping mode. So I tried it a number of times and I just don't get it. It somehow misses the marks on both flavor and texture for me. Since so many love it I am going to assume that Zelda's is one of those places that you love.... or you really don't.

If you like your pizza crust to taste like a greasy buttery pie, then roll into Zelda's. Don't go here looking for normal pizza. It's not normal. It's funky. It's greasy. The toppings suck, and so does the sauce.

The restaurant is very dark. The hostess was a snob and made us feel like we shouldn't be eating there because it was our first time there, and if we hadn't eaten there before then we probably don't deserve to now. The salad wasn't very good either. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because they sell pitchers of beer for cheap.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot. It takes FOREVER to get your pizza. They say to call it in before hand even if you plan on dining in. argh.

We decided to have a low-key birthday celebration and my wife picked Zelda's. A few friends got together and drank some beer and ate some Zelda's pizza pie. We all love the Zelda's Pizza....especially at Christmas time.

There are two types of women: Those that like Zelda's Pizza and those that don't. I'm glad my wife appreciates a good pie with eclectic decor. A real pizza joint. We've also always had good service at Zelda's. People seem to complain about that. I like the waitress stylings of Diane. I bet she eats the Zelda's for breakfast. The deep dish Chicago style has a unique taste that will dazzle your taste buds. It's a pizza pie.

If you're a guy and don't like Zelda's...you really need to do some soul searching. Or maybe put on a frilly little cotton dress or something.

I go to Zelda's when

1. I'm making any sort of huge life-altering decision. Why not make a decision over a delicious pizza and six-pack with your best friend in the whole wide world?

2. When I only want to buy 3 drinks for the next week (they're gggreat.)

3. When I have been tipsy since around noon and I am starving.

4. When I haven't seen my mommy for a while and I need to get put in my place.

5. When I don't really want to see my date. Literally.

I've been going to Zelda's since I thought it was named after the video game. I love their bar! I've never had a bad drink here. If Zelda's was open until two, it would be my choice watering hole. But I would also be very fat and the pizza probably wouldn't taste as good.

Oh yeah. The pizza is awesome and is a pie in every sense of the word. I do not see how it is possible to get a hangover, no matter how much you drink, after eating a slice of this pizza. This pizza was made for boozers. It's saved me on more than one occasion. I know I love the spinnoccoli, and everything else that doesn't have mushrooms or anchovies. I've had them all and they are all delicious!

Of the 50+ pizzas I've eaten here, only 2 have been memorably bad and those were ordered on really busy nights like Friday/Saturday. They were, as others have complained, kinda gooey and gross. Once the server reordered it after seeing my face. Now how's that bad service? I didn't even have to ask! But that may be because the lady knew me from previous incidents. The other time the pizza was bad, I just ate the dough, which, in hindsight, was a silly idea.

And I freaking love their antipasto salad (the special salad.) It is just the thing for the particular craving that I get. God help me, it is too GOOD!

All in all, this is one of THE MOST solid spots in Sacramento. If I moved somewhere else, I might fly back to Sacramento on occasion just for Zelda's. And then I'd promptly fly back to from where I came.

So I went here on a date some time back and on our way there 'he' was raving about how great this place is and how much I would LOVE the pizza yada yada yada yada. He also bragged about being a great kisser.

He was WRONG about both!

The pizza was horrible and the place itself was just.....blah! We ordered a combo and just looking at it made my stomach churn. Hell, just thinking about it now makes my stomach churn.

I won't be returning.

Boo for the terrible pizza AND terrible kisser!

Having spent four years at Northwestern University in the chicago area and living on Pizza's those four years...I  think I know a good Chicago style pizza when I taset one.  Zelda's is the BEST on the West coast.
I've been a customer here for over 30 years.  I found this place while living in Sacto back in the late 70's...it hasn't changed....
Another poster mentions Old Chicago in Petaluma, while this is really good Pizza, Zeldas is the Real thing!.  Great crisp cornmeal crust, not doughy.  tomato and sausage toppings is just right not overdone, and cheese is perfect.  The large pizza aloing wih a couple rounds of cocktails is perfect for four...
It doesn't get better than this...

Definately nothing fancy about this place but they have the most authentic awesome chicago style pizza around.  The atmosphere is very dim, outdated and godfatherish but I wouldn't change it for the world.  The service is straight to the point and don't even think about pissing off your waitress.

One large pizza is enough to feed me for a few days and it's great for leftovers.

Definately a hidden treasure and hopefully they'll never sell out.  If you go try the italian sausage topping, it's real italian saugage not some gross pizza hut style sausage

It seriously hurts that this pizza does not get five stars. I can understand why the restaurant does not rate -- the decor is retro and strange, and my guess is there is a whole lot of grease in the light of day (which you will never see in Zeldas). Then there are the friendly wait staff, the wait time, etc. etc. But putting all of that aside (and it is a lot to put aside if you want a dining experience) THEY HAVE THE BEST CHICAGO STYLE PIZZA outside of Chicago. I kid you not. This is the real deal, not some chain restaurant idea of soggy bread with sauce and cheese. Their pizza crust is handmade with cornmeal. The sauce has real tomatoes in it, and the cheese does not cover or drown the dish. GET IT TO GO!!!!

So if you think Roundtable, or Cool Pizza or Pizza Hut (or insert your high end chain made pizza) makes "good" pizza, DO NOT eat here. But don't diss it either. You are comparing apples and oranges. Zelda's is so far ahead of those kinds of pizzas, to many it won't resemble pizza. And you may not like it if you think pizza is supposed to taste like cardboard with lots of cheese on top.

If I ever leave the Sacramento area, it will be Zelda's Pizza that I will miss the most as it is the most memorable food Sac has to offer.

The pesto pizza here is great, but that's about it. I'm so glad I've found another Chicago Style pizza place here in Sacramento, since this place's service makes me ill every time.

It's even hard to get them to take my money when I'm getting take-out. I guess it's how the former Chicago resident put it, though... Chicago attitude? If that's what they're going for, they've got it.

Last time I had a different pizza (not the Pesto) it was soggy and far too greasy, so I've decided to pass when it comes to choosing Zelda's as the pizza joint.

Bite 1: You sink your teeth into a slice like the chicken pesto. You feel the textures of the sauce, cheese, flaky polenta crust and toppings. Mostly, you think how different the crust is from any pizza you have ever tasted.

Bite 2: You taste the slight acidity of the sauce that's just right. You taste the mixtures of cheeses and the flavors of onion, pesto, herbs and whatever else is there. You experience the subtle joys i n the crust

Bite 3: The warmth of this gooey, oozing cheesy pizza fills your pallet.

After about this time, the stunning realization occurs that this pizza crust that was so amazingly different is basically a pastry. You have covered a cornmeal pastry/pie crust with sauce and cheese. You have made something that's already bad for you just that much more bad for you by adding god knows how much butter.

It's sickeningly greasy after a while and I can only stomach about a slice at  most.

The interior is dark and depressing. The jukebox only has music from 30 years ago (and not as a silly theme thing) and the service is always pretty rude. Not worth it if you have to put up with all those other factors on top of the "delicious for only 3 bites" pizza.

I don't understand where these 1 star reviewers eat their pizza?  Pizza Hut? Round Table?  Papa John's?

If you like something that can actually be considered good pizza you will have to wait around.  An average wait time for a FRESH pizza will not be "delivered at your door in 30 minutes or less."  Sure it takes a while to get your pizza at Zelda's, but order a pitcher and talk with some friends.  Quit hurrying, or go eat some inferior pie at home.

I've been coming here since I was a wee lass and nothing...I mean NOTHING...has changed.  The pizza, the service and the atmosphere are all still great.  Sure the waitstaff can be a bit on the curt side, but I don't need a server to kiss my arse in order for my dining experience to be good.  I've had many pleasant and humorous exchanges with the waitresses and I will keep going back for more.

Please...all you haters, go to Chicago Fire and let the staff brow-nose you all night long.  I'll be at Zelda's enjoying the company of some people that aren't afraid to let the customer know they are WRONG.

Zelda's is awesome.  The crust rocks. It is deep dish, but still light.  It takes me back to my east coast roots.

Ah Zelda's!  You either love it or hate it.  For me, I love it.  You know in that movie, "Beautiful Girls" where the guy comes from the city to visit his friends in the small town he grew up in?  Where you go to some tried & true place to visit with some old pals while drinking cheap, strong drinks & eating bad-for-you food?  Where, even on some random weeknight or non-holiday you might see some old flame from the past, witness a bar fight outside or watch your single friends hook up with marrieds?  This is Zelda's for me.  Hell, Sacramento is my Vegas.

Every time I visit my home town, I drag my family and old friends here with me.  The cheap, year-round Christmas lights are like coming home.  The school cafeteria plastic cups at the bar have been replaced by glass ones, but they still manage to set out these relics if you get a table or booth.  I've learned from the past, not to get in the way when the waitress finally brings on the pie to serve up your first slice.

The pizza.  Ah...did I mention I LOVE IT?  It is exactly what has been bringing me back here for the last 20+ years.  The crust: pie-like, crisp and not doughy.  The sauce is plentiful and flavorful.  And - I know most people out there will hate this - it is not overwhelmed in cheese.  Out of all the Chicago style pizzeria's I've been to, Zelda's has the truest resemblance outside of Chicago.  I always get the combo pizza and some sort of hot alcoholic beverage.  I get enough for leftovers which I always devour later in the night after even more alcoholic beverages.

Service:  they suck.  They are slow, rude and inconsistent.  They recently just started to take credit cards.  I've called in my order beforehand, but I learned that this makes your wait for a table only marginally shorter.  I think it just makes the hostess less pissed off at you because you followed the "rules".  But like I said, I am a  fan of the pizza.  And well...I have to admit I look forward to what madness my friends/family get into when I visit.

So, Zelda's and your shitty-ass service yet most excellent pizza: Bring it on, Chiqui's in town!

See people don't get the place, that's why they bitch. It's not pizza you pick up it's deep dish, use a fork, Dork!!! It's not a ultra club, it's a down and dirty place to get real piazza! If you want papa Murphy's go to fucking papa Murphy's!! This is not a poser place to order a fricken martini. Take your ass to the park, if you want to pretend your rich and too cool for Zelda's!

Real Pizza, and yes real staff that  are a little abrasive if you act like your too good to be there. So if you like dive bars, and those restaurants that the locals go to then go to Zelda's and check your attitude at the door!

I need to make a confession -- I don't LOVE Zelda's -- but it is one of those places around Sactown that you hear people raving about so I almost feel guilty saying that.  Like I'm mocking an institution, or thumbing my nose at Sacramento history or something.

The dinginess didn't immediately turn me off -- it's sort of like if the Pirates of the Carribean ride served food --- but the pizza was only so-so and Y'ALL IT'S EXPENSIVE! (That was my best Britney Spears accent there for ya.)  I'm sorry, my pizza budget normally runs closer to Papa Murphy's prices or my favorite supermarket frozen brands so when I'm going to go out and sit down to have a pizza I want it to HIT! THE! SPOT!  and this just didn't.

Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, but this is pizza -- and we all know that even when it's bad it's supposed to be pretty good, right?

I give it 3 stars for it's prideful identity and for the cheap beer on tap and RIDICULOUS selection of liquor (looking for Absolut GrapefruitBlueberryPassionKiwiBerryFruit -- they've got it) but I'm disappointed that there was no part of my visit that made me really excited to go back again.

I want to love you passionately and effusively, Zelda's -- I really do.  But right now, we're kind of just making awkward small talk in line at the DMV.

Met up with some swell gals for a lunch. And that's where all the good ended.

Pizza, bad. The crust had no flavor, it was buttery but crumbly at the same time. And the actual pizza I don't think was cooked all the way. Suuuper doughy in the middle. Pesto sauce, however, was good. The company was great :) , but I can't say much more for the food. I know I might get shit for saying this but Zachary's in the bay area blows this outta the water.

I wish they would renovate (extremely dark, hot in the summer) but the pizza keeps me coming back.  Our office orders a few pizzas and walks over to share the goodness.

Zeldas is rather tasty. My personal fav pizza in Sac. I know its supposed to be Chicago style but Ive never had Chicago style so I don't know how it compares. I'm a big fan of the pie style crust and love that you practically have to eat it with a knife and fork. Service is terrible and you really should call in your order ahead of time so that you only have to wait an hour to eat instead of two. Also good to know that Zeldas has a really hole in the wall bar feel to it so just know that if your bringing youngsters you will walk past the drunk regulars to sit. I think they actually do take ATM cards now. When I used to go they only accepted cash.

Closest thing to Chicago pizza in N. California. I have to disagree w/ some reviewers; the crust is rather flavorful and buttery. People who don't like it are just not used to this style of pizza; it's a niche market here. A caveat: You can't just eat 2-4 slices; this isn't Round Table. One maybe two slices will fill you up and then some. Their ingredients are very high-end. The sausage is one giant patty spread across the pizza; this is the way they do it in Chicago. Their spinach/feta pizza is excellent too.
Service is very good, and parking is... well it's a breeze compared to S.F.

Overrated. Got pizzas to go for a party. Very, very soggy crust, even two hands were not enough to support a piece during eating.

Despite this, the people we brought the pizza to loved it and repeatedly praised the divinity of Zelda's pizza.  I guess there's a target market for soggy, waterlogged pizza, but it isn't me.
