On my last birthday, my sisters gave a gift certificate to Zazie. It included brunch for two and came with a tasty selection of plates and beverages (choice of coffee and mimosas, both of which were outstanding).

Despite the long line that builds up for brunch, Zazie's flawless service ensures that you won't wait long for a table (at least if you're with a small party). And besides, there are far worse places to loiter than sunny Cole St. on a Saturday.

We took a seat on the sun-dappled patio, beneath a tangle of bright pink blossoms and vines leaning elegantly off the fence. Our server was courteous and cheerful, exactly like everyone else who works at Zazie.

The most memorable dish was by far the eggs Monaco - poached eggs with proscuitto and tomatoes provencales. Fantastic.

Zazie also has a variety of scrambled egg dishes, pancakes, French toast, etc.

A great birthday gift!

After waiting for a full hour to be seated, I was quite excited to sit down and stuff my face with the gingerbread pancakes. Ordered the un, deux, trois which includes scrambled eggs, pancakes and bacon. First, everything was cold when it got to the table. Two, the scrambled eggs were runny (yuck!) and third the gingerbread pancakes were flavorless. If it wasn't for the lemon curd and pear topping I would of though they forgot to substitute the buttermilk pancake for gingerbread.

My partner in waiting commented his croque madame was good but not worth the hour wait. For me, the mocha in the big ass cup was good but bitter, I needed loads of sugar (cane sugar).

Oh and how could I forget the smelly water glasses. After the first sip the strong smell of egg yolk hit my nose. Now how did egg yolk get into both our water glasses, who knows. Perhaps they dropped an egg into the sink while washing them or they're using some fancy organic dish soap that smells like eggs. In any case, no thanks.

Next time, we'll go hang out with the crackheads for 20-30 minutes and have our breakfast at Dottie's True Blue Cafe. The wait is more entertaining and worth it in the end.

Zazie is a great brunch choice for the following reasons:
1) Outdoor seating
2) Offers the flexibility to customize breakfast entree (Depending on your appetite, you can order 1, 2 or 3 pancakes, french toasts or eggs benedicts)
3) Excellent service
4) Tasty food

Because I was forewarned about the popularity of this place and the long wait on weekends, I decided to come check out Zazie during my day off last week. Even though it was a Tuesday morning, the outdoor patio was packed w/ diners! My waitress was friendly and efficient. I devoured the pumpkin pancakes and la mar eggs benedict. Very tasty!

Overall, a great spot for brunch. However, I'm not sure this would be worth the wait on a weekend since parking can be difficult in this area and there are other equally great brunch options closer to my neighborhood.

I love anything French.  Hot dogs (or brochettes, in French), French Fries, and Brunch at Zazie.  Those Europeans really know how to eat.

I love Zazie's little tomatoes provencales, which they serve with some of their brunch items, they taste just like a bit of heaven, with a spice of garlic!!!  I usually ask them to put a couple on my baked polenta brunch special, which I order, without fail, every time I go to Zazie.  And, they've got GREAT bacon.  Smoked, thick style stuff, worthy of note.

Service is usually pretty good, and I never feel rushed.  They refill my water when it gets low, they don't forget things or mess my order up.  I really feel like if they just ripped off the ceiling I might just feel like I am in the middle of a cute little Paris bistro.

I have learned, though, from good and trusted sources, that to dine here on a Saturday or Sunday morning/brunch is equal to sitting in bad rush hour traffic.  The wait is LONG.  LONG.  LONG. I don't like waiting when I'm hungry so I usually just go here during the weekdays.

The best thing about SF is that no matter what SF to which you refer, it is still so utterly SF that it amazes you. The mission is so distinct from downtown and downtown is so distinct from haight-ashbury, but all are undeniably so SF at the same time.

When I arrived at Cole and Pamassus, it was the darling-ist thing I had seen in SF for a very long time, so different from my daily routines in SF yet so SF at the same time. A dear friend had dragged me out of bed to take me to this French cafe he had to go to because his mind was so set on it. Wanting to take advantage of this opportunity to not have to make any decisions for the next couple of hours, I jumped at the opportunity to take a little Monday morning adventure with him.

As luck would have it, he brought me to Zazie. I still think about who I can take there next till this day. The french toast was so delicious and the tomato basil bagel was unbelievably fresh. My friend had the eggs benedicts, and I think it was the fastest I had ever seen him eat.

Go there on a beautiful sunny day for the best experience, but just go!

So I decided to try this place out because everyone seems to love it. WELL, I guess I went on the wrong day and got the wrong things on the menu but... Yeah, definitely don't think I'm going to go back unless the bitch disguised as my server decides to check her 'tude. I went with my friends to get some brunch and I was really, REALLY looking forward to it. I got the un, doe, trois (spell check?) well, okay I'm not going to make a dumbass of myself, I got the one, two, three and changed the pancakes for the tahiti french toast but the bitch gave me regular french toast. I didn't want to be a problem customer so I ate it anyway. Everything was pretty mediocre, I could have made my own french toast, bacon and over-easy eggs but whatever. Anyway, service was alright, we went around 2 PM so the restaurant was basically empty but I still didn't get the kind of attention I expected to get. When it came to the check, my friends and I split it- I marked everything and organized the whole receipt to help her know which items to charge to which card. The noncontributing zero waitress rolled her eyes at me and gave me HELLA attitue. Um... sorry bitch but I'm pretty sure this is your job. Don't get me wrong, I was a server for a long time and I understand its frustrating when there are a lot of people but uh.. pretty sure there were a total of seven people in that restaurant at the time. I don't think she was slammed with tables and orders or anything. Anyway, overall not impressed and uninspired, maybe I'll give it another try again another time when I'm craving soggy french toast and bitchy attitudes.

P.S. the only reason why this place got two stars is because of the atmosphere and decor- I love cute restaurants! But if you're going to give any attitude or roll your eyes, make sure to turn around completely first. Duh.

Not a very good deal for the price you are going to pay for breakfast.  Coffee is $2.50 and ok, but the coffee at La Boulange across the street is better and only $1.75.  The food is not bad, but definitely nothing special.  Our breakfast for two came out to $45 (with 15% tip). I did order the Crab Cakes Benedict, which was probably the most expensive thing on the menu, and I was not impressed at all.

I will say it was very easy to get a table on a Monday morning though.

I'm a newbie to the brunch scene, but I've heard this is one of the best spots, complete with their outdoor patio. I had the "Monaco" poached eggs with prosciutto and tomato. Topped with light hollandaise over a toasted English muffin, this was absolute perfection.

The Americano was nice and rich, with just the right amount of water.

Worth the wait.

If you like either French food or breakfast in particular and happen to be near San Francisco then this is a must try. Unfortunately you are pretty much guaranteed to wait on the weekends, but that is because of the reputations Zazie has. The food at this place is nothing but amazing. You will pay for that when the bill comes, but it is worth it. It is definitely not a place to go to all the time unless you have a more than decent income. If you are a tourist and are looking for good food to add to the San Francisco experience, then go to this place. You won't be disappointed.

Veteran's day on a Wednesday was a genius plan because that means that not everyone gets Wednesday off!  But luckily for me, I did. =P  I took advantage of my day off by starting it off with a nice walk through inner sunset to Cole Valley for brunch at Zazie!  Again, luckily for me I did not encounter the massive mob outside waiting for a seat at Zazie.  I walked in and was seated within 1 minute.  We had the option of going to the outside patio or the inside, but it was a little chilly outside, so we opted for the inside seating.  The inside of the restaurant isn't anything remarkable, but it feels very homey.

They have a good selection of breakfast/brunch foods with the option of one/two/three pieces of what you order (French toast, eggs, pancakes, etc).  I went with the French Toast Tahiti, which were french toast with caramelized bananas and walnuts.  It doesn't come with any sides, but you don't really need any... 2 french toast is defintiely enough for one person!  It's different from any other french toast in that it comes with "stuffing" --pureed bananas and walnuts in between the french toast pieces.  Might seem and look a little weird, but it's actually VERY delicious!  It has lots of banana flavor.  You actually don't even need a lot of extra syrup because the french toast and banana stuffing are already sweet as is.  I was actually pretty good with just 1 piece of french toast... if I were to have eaten 2 pieces of french toast, I might've had too much banana overload.  I also split the Omelette de Jour - chicken apple sausage, white cheddar cheese, tomato provencale, and basil.  It was good but was a little bland in my opinion.  I needed some ketchup to spice it up.

Overall, the food was good, but a little on the pricey side... for 2 people: 1 glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice ($3.50), french toast ($10), omelette ($10.95) = $28.32... doesn't add up right? well, of course being in SF, they added on a $2 charge for the SF Health Care plan... Total was $32 for BRUNCH.  It was good, but I probably won't be going back every weekend until I make real money... $32 is a little much for brunch.

Went on a Wednesday morning, no wait. Delicious French Toast, but nothing worth waiting for.

They gave me an unwashed cup, but quickly apologized and replaced it when I pointed it out.

Much prefer the Sunday brunch French Toast at Zuni. Or for those on a budget, Kate's Kitchen.

I don't normally bother writing a review, but given the multitudes of raving reviews I thought I'd throw this in to balance it out.

My buddy and I went for brunch shortly before 10 am (which just barely avoids the long lines in case you do decide to go). I tried both the buttermilk pancake and the ginger pancake, while my buddy ordered the french toast, both of us as part of their "Un Deux Trois" meal (one main, two eggs, and three bacon).

The low rating centers on my buddy's french toast which tasted horrible (when my buddy offered me a sample). We alerted the waiter who looked at it and conceded that the egg was undercooked. He offered to bring a replacement. In the meantime I finished the pancakes (which were okay, nothing that has made me hunger to go back). However, the replacement french toast came back and it still tasted sour. We caught the waiter and he simply sniffed that these were meant to taste this way. What really grates me was that even after the screw-up they charged us the full amount for the french toast.

Bottom-line, not worth the wait as there are other brunch places in SF that are more worth your time, at least if you're looking for pancakes or french toast.

My Sactown friend was visiting and what a better way to start the day than breakfast at my fave spot.

Okay, brunch.  Since ya'll know I don't wake up early!

We arrived at noontime on a weekday and lo and behold!  there was no wait.  We headed straight for the patio.  This is where you want to be on a gorgeous sunny day, there are flowers and plants surrounding you, other folks basking in the sun, a couple who can't seem to stop kissing.

How cute.  (I'm more forgiving about that since I used to be one of those annoying kissy types)

The only available table was of course, right next to the kissy couple.  My friend and I tried hard not to keep * looking * so we distracted ourselves by concentrating on the menu.

I already knew that I wanted eggs bene.  The hollandaise sauce is phenomenal paired with perfectly poached fresh egg. I zeroed in on the Eggs Monaco which comes with prosciutto and tomatoes provencales. My friend opted for the Eggs Mexico, scrambled eggs with roasted peppers, chorizo, white cheddar cheese and homemade salsa.  Both come with home fries and cloves of sweet roasted garlic.

My friend also tried their chai latte and was surprised that it came in a bowl.  Spicy. Wonderfully made with foamy milk on top.  She just had to take a pic!

Although service was a bit slower this time around, we weren't in a rush.  We took the time to enjoy a rare sunny day in SF!

Brunch food at Zazie is consistently good. You can't go wrong with this place.

WOW. I've now found my favorite restaurant on the planet!

I ordered a tartine with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and red onions. The bread was perfectly toasted and all the ingredients were really fresh; my side of home fries was extremely flavorful and filled with whole garlic cloves! Mango mimosas outside in the sun with friends= blissful.

The most life-changing part of the meal was the Sugar Pie Pumpkin Pancakes. They're AMAZING! Hands down the best pancakes I've ever had. The spices mix so well with maple syrup and the grilled pumpkin on top. Perfect texture too-- thick and moist, but not mooshy. Get these now, since I think they're gone by the end of October.

Zazie's has a laidback European vibe with charming décor and a fantastic waitstaff. This spot gets 1 million emphatic stars from me! :)

On my day off, I woke up at 7:30 AM, cleaned the condo, responded to a bunch of personal emails, responded to a handful of work emails, went back to bed for an hour and then drove to the city for brunch at Zazie's.  We were seated fairly quickly but our table of 5 grew to 7 so we all squeezed in (otherwise it would have been a 35 minute wait).  I was okay since it was Fred's left armpit that was smelly that day and I was on his right hand side.

He got the poppyseed pancakes ... which were good as far as pancakes go.  I got the Monaco (is that pronounced Mo NAH' co or MON' a co?)  Did you know that they don't have income tax in the country of Monaco if you are a citizen?  Did you know it takes 9 generations to become a citizen?  Anywho, my Monaco was good, I could taste the free range-ness of my eggs.  Gail and I shared the French toast Tahiti since neither of us wanted to order it, but both of us wanted to try it.  It was good, but I wouldn't have wanted it as my meal.

Monday for lunch and the place was packed.  I think if I were ever to lose my job, I would move to this neighborhood because there would be plenty of other people not working with me.

I went to Zazie with my wifey for a nice brunch.  The weather was dull but we were determined to check this place out . . . especially due to their hype.  So after we found parking (we got lucky), we walked up a few blocks toward a crowd lingering in front of the restaurant.  Right when I saw the crowd, I knew we were in for a long wait . . . which was expected.

Upon arrival, we put our name down on the list that was hanging near the door.  After waiting for about 1 hour, we were seated outside in the patio behind the restaurant.  It was a cool morning/afternoon but they have heating lamps.  Unfortunately, I was seated directly below the heat lamp so I felt like I was a piece of KFC chicken under a warming lamp.

I ordered the French Toast Tahiti. It was pretty good.  The description stated that it had caramelized walnuts, but I only found 2.  =(  I recommend ordering the two piece as it was very filling and I didn't even finish it.  But then again, for a guy, I can't eat that much.

Wifey ordered the La Mer.  She let me try a bite and I must admit, it was delicious!  Soooo good!  It's basically a poached egg dish with Dungeness crab with avocado.  Seemed like she liked it a lot.

Tips:

1.  Parking is very difficult.  Either take the N line in because it stops right next to it or prepare to circle around and around looking for parking.

2.  Since there is such a long wait, go to Tully's (right next door) and grab a coffee.  It'll help you get through the pain.

My wife and I have been coming here for years off and on. Generally speaking we find the food pretty decent. The coffee here is awesome! But today (like many other days) I ordered the St. Trop (English muffin with salmon, capers and poached eggs topped with a few capers.) After cutting into it, I was annoyed with the VERY undercooked poached eggs. I wasn't going to make an issue of it, just push it aside but the waitress inquired as to why. I told her that the eggs were under cooked and asked if they could re-do them. She said ok and took the plate away. Well, about 10 minutes later, I got the replacement and it was exactly like the first. The waitress said "You have to ask for them to be cooked medium" before she took the plate away and I was surprised that when it came back it was still undercooked. The waitress then basically said "Well, people here like their eggs undercooked." Well, that's all well, but when you send plates back, it might be in their best interest to do it the way the customer wants it..
In general the menu is decent, not great and the atmosphere is very nice as well. Its just too bad the wait staff seems to not care what the customers want. At least this time my wife acknowledged that it was horrible and said that we don't have to go there anymore. ... *score!*

BRUNCH REVIEW 4 1/2 star

-they have street parking, i think its max 1 hour
-indoor/outdoor seating. I sat inside
-long list of people waiting for brunch on a weekday, I was surprized-it moved very fast, not even 5 minuets.
-seated and greeted by friendly server
- I read many great reviews so I ordered all the popular items, lemar (eggs benedict with crab), fries, pancakes and french toast and fresh oj. Total bill- about $100 for 2 hearty eaters. Delicious!! Could not complain, the food was perfect, the service was EXCELLENT.

fyi- Im not big on pancakes or french toast but I loved them here. Only reason it was not a five star is because It didnt beat the eggs benedict at ritz carlton brunch in halfmoon bay.

Random discussion the day before in the car:
Me: let's go to brunch tomorrow!
M and J: OK, where?
Me: there's a "make your own bloody mary" day at Home.  Let's go there!  Oh, I also want to try The Corner!  Oh, and, and, and...

Meanwhile, M was waiting for me to exclaim Zazie, since I couldn't stop talking about it a month ago.  Moments later it finally dawned on me.

Saturday, 2 p.m.  Perfect time to go, since the morning crowd have dissipated.  We got our seats in the back patio and went to work.

Pierre noire http://www.yelp.com/bi...
French toast tahiti + st trop http://www.yelp.com/bi...
La mer http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The dishes were all delicious, and two eggs (or one egg and a french toast) is the perfect amount to fill you up but not have you stuffed into a food coma.  Really glad I finally made it out for brunch!

My BF suggested Zazie for brunch a few weeks ago because he wanted to see if it lived up to all the hype. Because of the thunder and rain we had the previous night, I figured most people would stay in and there wouldn't be much of a wait.... Wrong!! We waited for about an hour before being seated.

I had the La Mer, which was eggs benedict with Dungeness crab and Hass avocado. Loved it! I was sad the eggy goodness was gone when I finished. It was worth the wait. I also had a couple bites of my BF's French Toast Tahiti. Not as good as the La Mer, but pretty tasty. Thick pieces of light fluffy toast that had a nice crisp on the outside.

Long wait and parking is hard to come by, so drive by and put your name on the list before venturing off to find parking,. If you still have a long wait, go to Tully's for some coffee. Only slight complaint is service could be more attentive. I will return to try the Gingerbread Pancakes!

decided to come here because the wait at mama's was over 90 minutes. as a first-time SF bruncher, i probably should've stuck around to take in the full experience, but i had gotten a late start on my day and was just way too hungry.

zazie's did not disappoint. very cute little brunch spot and the wait was only about 20 minutes. had the la mer eggs benedict with dungeness crab & avocado - SO good! also had the french toast stuffed with caramelized bananas & walnuts. i don't think i have to tell you that they were completely amazing.

never did get to try mama's while i was in town, and that's alright with me.

I had heard good things about this place so we checked it out for Friday morning brunch. The place was hopping, but not too crowded, no wait for a table and the food came out in decent time. I was excited to try the Challah French Toast and Gingerbread Pancakes and I loved that you can order just 1 piece of each (the whole menu is priced 1 item/2item/3item)! I also tried the standard Egg/Homefries and Toast plate.

The french toast with fruit is superb, the gingerbread pancakes with lemon curd and pears are incredible, but nothing could outshine their AMAZING homefries! So garlicky and delicious, I've been having dreams about them ever since! Did I mention they were amazing? Also, I don't know how they did it, but their toast was also incredible...I mean really, how do you make toast incredible??

This place is definitely worth a visit and lives up to the hype! I'll be back for sure.

Don't bother with the benedicts, you can do so much better.

Continuing my hunt for good eggs benedict in the city, this morning Diner-in-Crime, T-Diner, and I headed out to Zazie. We had all been there before and enjoyed those previous experiences... and I could have sworn I ordered a benedict then too, but I sure won't bother after this attempt.

Zazie has great "bready" breakfasts, like french toast and pancakes. They also have an extensive mimosa menu, and you can't go wrong there. But the savory dishes just don't do it for me. To start with, they don't have a straight-up eggs benedict (a growing trend, it would seem). What they do have is a long list of variations, many of which are served with tomatoes. Seriously folks, tomatoes have no place on a benedict and I made sure to avoid those that listed tomatoes. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that, yes, my benedict (the "Albert" for those playing along at home) came with undisclosed tomatoes. In addition, the entire dish was in the "just sort of warm" band of the heat spectrum.

Much like my Park Chow review, I'm giving four stars today because it's been good before, so I'm not giving up just yet. But if the next time turns out less than spectacular, I'm docking a star.

SUPERB eggs Benedict. DELICIOUS coffee. This place is pretty romantic, especially the backyard. I usually sit out front though so I can people-watch. I've heard the dinner is really good too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Also, they answer the phone in French and usually play cool French music like Edith Piaf.

I work late and I get off late, so by the time I wake up I've already missed breakfast! Well I've might missed breakfast, but not BRUNCH.

People aren't lying about their ginger pancakes because they're absolutely amazing.  Yummmy .... plus you can even purchase their mix if you want to make some at home!

I tend to always over order because I want to try almost everything on the menu.  So after the pancakes comes the mexican omelet; I ended up not even finishing it.  It was tasty, but it didn't left me at awe.

Well if you're coming here on a sunny afternoon, try to dine outside their patio.  It's a cool spot to have brunch at, just hope the sun is not blinding you, of course.

We made the mistake of trying to beat the rush and have brunch at Zazie this morning.  Big mistake.  There was a big crowd already waiting outside before 11am.

The food here is good, but I don't think it's so good it's worth the wait.  True, the service is fast and efficient, and we got our food pretty quickly after we ordered it.  I had the salmon omelette with wheat toast, my wife had the Mexican omelette with chorizo, and they were both good.  The home fries were good, and they don't give you too much.  You can also substitute a salad for the homefries at no additional cost.

This place ain't cheap-- my omelette was $12, and our large orange juices were something like $3.50 each.  But the food quality is good.  I'd say it's about as good as Ella's on Presidio, but not quite as good as Brenda's French Soul Food near Civic Center.  One bonus is the stellar people watching.  The clientele here is definitely the upscale pseudo-hipster type that you frequently see in Noe Valley.

From sitting down to paying the check and leaving, we were in there for a total of 25 minutes-- less time than we actually spent standing outside waiting to be called.  Parking here is also very, very difficult.  Had we not lucked into a metered spot that I could re-feed, we wouldn't have even tried this place.

I'm not your typical brunch girl -- meaning, I don't normally indulge in your average brunch menu items -- but Zazie has got a robust brunch menu going on that aims to please many a' varied palates, myself included.

My old roommate and I hopped on the N somewhat on a whim and decided to see what was going on at Zazie considering that we both had never been before but had always wanted to give it a try.

Sure, the wait is pretty atrocious, but I'd say it's worth it. Plus, lucky for us it was a beautiful day in the city and we were able to bask in the sunshine as we waited for an open table, sipping casually on our Tully's coffees, which is conveniently located just a few shops down.

Our waiter was super cute and attentive [methinks he had a crush on my redheaded friend, which doesn't surprise me at all because she's cute as a button] and our food came out timely and tasty! I'd come back, especially now that I know that their brunch items aren't restricted to just the weekends -- score!

I came over here with two of my best friends during a pretttyy ass day in SF. The environment is super unique and relaxing, perfect brunch date. We ordered the smoked salmon bagel, pancake and their house special potato fries. They were all well served, we were very satisify. Not to mention their coffee is delicious with no bitterness.

Actually I had better smoked salmon bagel elsewhere, please do try other things on the menu, and don't forget to shop around height street afterward, you'll find amazing things there.

I think one of the greatest and simple pleasures in life is having Sunday brunch with good friends. Trish the Brunch Dish was in town and the rare Ligaya Time was set!

My ginger pancakes (x2) with Bosch pear and lemon sauce was delicious, though I would recommend getting just one pancake instead of two since it's a lot of carbs and getting eggs or other items with it instead.

The menu was set up so that you can have a la carte on a little of everything instead of just eating 7 French toasts by yourself.
Ligs' poached eggs looked delicious! I'm totally getting those next time!

The wait is definitely more bearable than Brenda's. The two front small tables, the inside, and the patio made it accommodating, especially with heating lamps in the patio. The restroom was clean and decorative as well!  I even got the "remember" from a staff because I forgot to zip my fly (I was....um....getting "fresh air").

On a Saturday morning a party of 7 people waited about an hour to be seated. We waited because people on Yelp had really rated this place highly and I love breakfast.

When we were finally seated, the hostess was very very nice. (5 stars)
The patio outside is nice if the temperature is just right. (4 starts)
I ordered the only omlet which was the days special, there are no omlets on the menu. The omlet I ordered was decent and came with toast and potatoes. (3 stars).
The coffee, was strong and good.
The ginger pancakes were delicious (4 stars).
Parking can be tough (2 stars).

I must go back to try the Mexican scramble which I hear is good. Maybe that will bump my rating up to a 4 star. For now its a 3.5.

I can't yet give Zazie five stars, because I've only had a salad and dessert here--but I will return for dinner (preferably for the prix-fixe menu) or brunch. The dessert alone is worth a return trip.

Zazie is a charming space. I came here with two friends on an early summer evening which, of course, means it was slightly cold and foggy. We still chose to sit in the back garden. The heat lamps made it pleasant. I'm sure on a warm evening (say, in the fall, winter, or spring), the garden would be even nicer.

My friends eat on Midwestern time, so it was only about 5:30 when we got there. I had eaten lunch just about two hours beforehand, so I only had a salad. My fig and goat cheese salad was elegant and delicious. If I didn't make strawberry salad myself all the time, I would have ordered that. It was gorgeous, with handfuls of colorful edible flower petals. Although I was still planning on making dinner a few hours later, I couldn't resist ordering dessert when I saw that they had baked hot chocolate, which I've only had once before (at Candybar). It was worth it--it's like the inside of a chocolate lava cake, served in a mug, with marshmallows baked over the top.

Monday night is dog night, when dog owners can bring their pets to the back garden to eat with them. The dogs even get free treats. I don't have a dog (wish I did), but I loved seeing the happy and very well-behaved canine guests.

Had a delicioussss brunch here this past weekend. The service was quick and friendly. The food was tasty and came out really fast, which was great since we needed to go watch the STEELERS GAME, woot woot! I got the benedict with proscuitto and tomatoes provencal (oh-so-good!) and the bf had some sort of mexican scramble, which was also pretty good. The potatoes were the most lackluster part of the meal but there was nothing to keep me from coming back again!

Word to the wise: don't stray too far from the door after writing your name on the waiting list. The list may seem insanely long but it goes surprisingly fast. The host will give your table away about 2.3 seconds after calling your name and realizing you're not there. They don't mess around here!

Came in on a chilly SF night with 2 friends and we were seated right away. Chose three things off the prix fix menu. Started off with the green salad tossed with a yummy raspberry vinaigrette. Was light, fresh and a great way to start off the meal. Next was the zazie burger  with gorgonzola and grilled yukon potatoes...it was delish. The meat was moist, well flavored and coupled well with the bold taste of the gorgonzola. Washed it down with a cold cider. One of my neigborhood faves!

While I'm a big fan of this place for brunch (and will go ANYTIME), a recent stop here on a weeknight disappointed me.  Which I guess is what I get for eating alone.

Although nextbus said that the the N-Judah was forthcoming, in fact, it was not.  I was starving, and had time to kill, so I decided to come here.  As I've had multiple good experiences here with the breakfast foods, I was looking forward to dinner.

I wandered in, and apparently confused one of the waitresses, who told me to wait for the host guy.  He was also confused by the fact that I was dining alone, but offered me an inside table where I would have been stared at by all the other patrons for being a lonely fool, or outside on the gorgeous night.

The back patio was quite full, and it seemed to overwhelm the waitress.  As someone who waited tables for many years, I know that when you get triple-sat, life sucks, but she just seemed flustered and angry instead of addressing the situation.  All she had  to say is "I'm busy, but I'll be right with you."  I also was sitting next to some of the most pretentious douches and their wives, but that wasn't the waitress' fault.  Seriously, one couple at this table didn't know what country their former nanny was from, and was bemoaning the fact that their au pair was pissed because she didn't have a car.  It was all I could do to keep from stabbing myself in the ear and bleeding on them.

ANYWAY I got the burger and roasted potatoes which is probably now my favorite burger...but I was extremely saddened by the service.  I might go back for dinner (not alone) on a Tuesday when they have their wine special for that burger, but I am not in any hurry.

The girls and I had breakfast a few weeks ago.  We didn't have to wait long and the place was packed.  The hostess gave us seats in their outdoor patio as soon as our entire party arrived.  It was a nice foggy SF day so we were able to seat under their heat lamps and enjoy the typical SF day.

I ordered their crab benedict which was a bit pricey but upon taking a bite of the food, I knew that it was worth the extra few dollars I was spending.  I also enjoyed their mimosa which was delicious and had a different twist on it.   They used a different type of juice instead of the usual orange juice which made it a bit sweeter.

Parking can be a bit difficult and most of it is metered.  Make sure you bring plenty of quarters to feed the meter and most of all have fun and enjoy the food.

I hate it when I buy into the hype. I hate it even more when I am disappointed by it all.

Zazie was one of those places.

Claimed by many as the best brunch spot (or one of the best brunch spots) in the city, I was nowhere near impressed.

We chose from the various creations of Eggs Benedict or as they simply called it, Poached Eggs dishes. I had the La Mer, Dungeness crab and Haas avocado, with a spring salad while Eric went for the Pierre Noir, bacon and tomato provencales, with home fries. The La Mer was very much under-seasoned. The crab was not sweet and fresh as expected. The avocado was not quite ripe yet. Eric took a bite and asked if there was any crab meat in that bite. There sure was! It was just incredibly bland. The poached eggs, I must praise, were perfection. Is it sad that I liked my spring salad on the side more than the Benedict itself?

As for the Pierre Noir and the home fries, Eric simply said, "I had better." That's his verdict of Zazie.

The wait on a Sunday around noon was not as horrendous as I had imagined. The smaller tables became available rather quickly. If you don't want to wait? Stand by to snatch one of the two tables in front but be prepared to be surrounded by people waiting to grab a seat inside.

My first time at Zazie.  Very cute, comfortable and friendly serviec.  I am not a breakfast person, so I was a little disappointed when they didn't serve lunch until 11.  I thought for sure the online menu said brunch from 8 on but I guess that is just weekends.  I managed to find pancakes (lemon) homefries and bacon.  All were amazing.  I just wish I had a bigger appetite.

I love love loved the Ginger Pancakes.  I'm much more of a sweet breakfast type of person so I was thrilled to get two gigantor pancakes with Lemon Curd.  They were perfectly sweetened as well.

I'm so glad that this time going to Zazie we waited at Zazie instead of our tummy's making up their minds and sending us to Bambino's. =)
