Being on a budget is hard... being on a strict budget is even harder!
Unfortunately for me i have a lot of occupational hazards with my clothing... I have a tendency to get hair color and bleach on almost everything i wear to work. So finding something stylish and affordable is a must for me since i am buying clothes often. This is what brings me to Zara...
Where else can i find a super sexy stylish mens shirt for less than $40?? not many places! Zara has it all. From furry boots, cute jeans, jacket coats and tops. I can walk out of Zara with spending less than $100 and having a whole weeks worth of new outfit options.
Also on a side note. Even if I had thousands of dollars to lay down on clothes i would still shop at Zara! I really like the cuts and styles and most of the things I have purchased here hold up well and last.
Meh...you can find some cute items...but they are often of abad quality and totally not worth the price.
Ok, I have a lot of t-shirts, so I wear Zara's ones seldom...but even then they fall apart!!??
Have a couple of jeans and jackets though and love them...so I guess it all depends.
the fabric, lets break it down i have not been to a store where the cloths are not that bad at price but make the best impression to me as the quality in their cotton clothing, i bought this great white long sleeve and i can where my white bra and have it not show, what can a girl want more
and plus the sales and do a lot of damage on a girls wallet
H&M has met their match (that is until Uniqlo decides to open a SF store). The clothes here are a bit higher quality but also a tad more expensive. The selection is also dressier and less on the casual offerings that H&M has. The silhouettes being very sleek, colors dark (but that could be a seasonal thing). I've noticed the Post St. store has better a mens selection but H&M in general has a wider range of styles.
This review is for the men's section only. The workers in the men's dept were amazing. I wish I got the dudes name that helped my bf find his stuff. he was super attentive, ran to the stock room to find our stuff, etc. went out of the way to help us with everything. they have great items and its good to know that in a few weeks all the good stuff goes on sale!
Womens: i wish they made smaller sizes because Zara's size 2 is gigantic. i love there stuff, just wish i could fit it.
Zara is tricky:
1. USA and Europe's Zara are 2 totally different differences :)
As much as I loved SF Zara location, being in Moscow, Russia now I can compare those 2.
Here you have a bigger space, LOTS i mean.... LOOOOTS of sh**, but on the other hand - it can pretty damn messy and annoying. Gotta have that "digging and selecting a good ones from other crap" skills + LOOOTS of patience, while digging and gettin sweaty and annoyed with other people.
2. Trendy - YES! It is HELLUVA trendy, its like they took all that tendencies of the season and inspired all their clothes with it, so u dont have any temptation to go some place else.
3. Quality - Kinda. I have couple of boots from there, which are still alive from the last year! :) And that's, u know, SOMETHING!
I have book marked Zara for the longest time but for the other SF location. Since I was at the mall I thought why not check it out. Finally I did. Came in and not what I expected. There prices are reasonable and you can find pieces to add to your wardrobe for you. I found a great Dad's cardigan. I tried on the jackets too but didn't find what I like. Would love to come back and shop more. The clearance section prices are not bad and the quality of the clothing is not bad either. Will be back again when I am in the city.
I was searching all over for a thick red belt and finally found one here. Problem was, they only had one size left in the red. So I asked the people on the floor to see if there was another smaller one in the back. The two floor people I asked told me that there was only one size for all the belts, even if the tags indicating the size say otherwise. I went back to the rack of belts to confirm this and found that different sizes really are different sizes! I guess the store policy is to lie to customers instead of helping them though..
Came here again\ yesterday because I haven't been in this store for the longest time . It's either my style changed or this season's clothes are really nice because my opinion of this store has a 360 degree change !! I love the clothes here . It's a mix of H&M and Banana Republic . The clothes are sophisticated yet trendy . I've come to find that I can do a lot of creative styles with their clothes .. it's just the way their clothes are designed . The clothes are priced rather reasonably too
I almost got my day's REM sleep while waiting in line. And no, not the 90's band. Three registers, come on.
This is my favorite place to look for jackets for all occasions. Dress up, casual, first dates, make-up sex, nothing underneath... their jackets are diverse and can fit the average-slim male really well.
The section for guys is hidden in the back, and to be honest I assumed the store was only for women for the longest time. It's all you can see when you walk by the front of it. But go past the registers into the back room and you will find a quiet, stylish boutique full of tshirts, pants, and most importantly... jackets.
Love this store. Fashionable and trendy clothing at a reasonable price.
I wish they had an online shopping site!
I've been told I shop a lot for a guy.
Everytime I go to downtown, I ALWAYS stop at Zara. If you go through my closet, you'll notice 2 things, I have a lot of pants from Express, and all of my jackets/coats are from Zara. Their dress shirts also fits me perfectly. It's probably the European deisgn, the shirts are much more fitted here. I like it.
Quality is not top notch, there's been a few times where I pick up a jacket and a couple buttons are lose, threads coming out. But to be fair, no one really knows when/where these "mistakes" happened, could've been a customer or bad handling by an employee. I would rank quality above Express, probably just a tad better than Banana and A/X.
Prices- IIMO very fair. The shirts and pants are in line with quality and competition. But where there's a sale, you can pick up shirts at pretty sweet prices. the jackets are very well priced, usually about $100 - $200.
It's just too bad all the jackets I like are never on sale, it's usually sold by by then. And they don't carry too much stock so if you see a jacket you like, grab it. don't wait.
Have you seen any of my buttons? The ones that are missing from the tweed jacket I bought here two seasons ago during winter? The ones that popped off only the second time I wore it?
Or, can you tell me where to find a seamstress that can help me fix the stitching that fell out of the dress I bought only a week ago in the Las Vegas Zara store?
Ok.. well, can you tell me why you can't check your inventory stock room to see whether or not you have another one that I can replace it with at least? What? You're doing inventory and you can't do that right now?
Oh.... okay. No problem.
So, can you tell me if I can get store credit back for the shoes that I bought for $139 and didn't even get a shoe box with that are really too small for me? No, I don't have my receipt, sorry - I totally botched that one up, I know. I'm usually really good about that. But, I brought my credit card statement showing the charge, I figured I could just get a store credit? What? Your company doesn't issue store credits? So, how long do I have to wait to speak to a manager?
10 mintues has gone by.. just pretend.
Hi (insert condescending store manager's name here). Yeah, so I bought these and they're really too small and - Oh, yeah she told me, you don't give store credits. We'll, do you think you can make an exception just this once? I had the receipt in my wallet and well, it was stolen last week and I don't have the receipt, but I bought my credit card statement showing the charge on my account instead. I didn't even wear the shoes (I show them to condescending store manager) and-- She keeps smiling and nodding her head.
This is the twilight zone, I fucking swear. I've never seen such a monotone. She could've just been on auto pilot, repeating the company's policies and shit.
30 minutes have now passed. (just pretend)
Oh.. you can exchange them?? Great, that's all I wanted. (Why didn't you fucking say that to begin with you fucking half wit??? Oh, I remember, it's because you're just a minion, right?)
I remember that probably at least half of America is made up of monotonous minions just like her, and they're all smiling and winking like Sarah Palin. God help us.
Because admitting that the customer is right is totally a foreign concept, plus the VP of Marketing at Zara has decided that the best way to eradicate returns entirely is to make it as difficult as possible to issue them in the first place. Because, let's face it - Zara has to deal with a lot of returns given their products are of such poor quality that they are almost defective upon their departure. And Zara can't be held responsible for what happens to the merch after it leaves the store, now can it?
I'll admit it, I'm a sale whore.
I meandered into Zara thinking "oh, none of these clothes will fit me, but what the heck". I was very, very wrong. I found the sale table one of $8 and under and one of $6 and under. I found an awesome "dressy" top for $8 and a plain heather grey tshirt for $6. Both are very soft material, and my boobs fit into them! Hooray!
Though I don't find myself at the Westfield Mall too often, I will definitely hit this place up if I am there.
Oh, and they played good music whilst I was shopping.
Oh Zara, how I love you. You have so many cute tops and coats that I just want to scoop you up in my arms, try you on, and take you home with me. But my sad paycheck will never allow this to happen. So I have to settle for a few coats, mens neck ties, and tops when possible.
Zara, please don't ever leave me. I'll be so sad and fashion less without you around.
Zara, it would also help to have clothes in bigger sizes too.
I like Zara, I really do... I swear. I enjoy coming here during my (extended) lunch breaks and browse through the racks to see what is new. But I have to admit that I rarely buy anything here, only out of fear that I'd be caught wearing the same damn thing that some trendy skinny bitch transplant from L.A. might be wearing! I'd rather keep my style classic while at the same time remaining loyal to my alternative roots than fall victim to the latest fashion trends. So ultimately, I just browse.
But this past week I came in here thinking I could find a simple pair of black short-shorts that I could wear to the playa next week. No dice.
I did however find this FABULOUS "Bohemian Chic" flowey-brown-and-black-paisley-flowery-see-through -kimono-like-number that can be worn as a top or as a really short dress that was just drop dead hot! It was so hot it would have made Grace Slick's hair turn green and transport her back to the '60s - and if she and the '60s weren't a part of the "American Dream" (which is the Burning Man theme this year) then I don't know what is!
As I tried it on and could already see myself wearing it on the playa with nothing but my bikini underneath and a pair of black boots, feeling cool and refreshed as it flows in the dusty wind.
((((I could also see myself wearing it with a pair of Christian Louboutin stilettos and a big black floppy sunhat and my brown Tom Ford sunglasses, while lounging poolside at a hotel in Miami Beach - ala Jennifer Lopez (I am a Latina, after-all) while sipping mojitos all day long and text-messaging Marcos to tell him he sucks for not calling in sick to work that day!))))
;)
But the truth is... for me, Burning Man is about breaking your own boundaries and being creative and having fun with wearing things you would never be caught dead wearing out in public. I am sure it is the same for (almost) all who trek out to the desert each year. I hope.
Oh, how I wish I could afford HALF the stores at the Westfield Shopping Centre. One look at Zara and I immediately thought, "I'll never afford anything in here but I'll take a looksie anyway." To my surprise, their prices weren't bad! Tons of selection for work, play, GNO, etc. all of which are high quality that won't burn a hole in your pocket. Unfortunately, a trip into their fitting room makes me wanna P90X pronto!
HEADS UP: sizes run small. You're not fat! ;-)
One of my favorite places to shop! Zara has high quality clothing.
Zara also has one of the world's most sophisticated product chain manufacturing line. As soon as you make a purchase, it notifies their factories to produce another identical item to the one you bought (to replenish the now missing item in their store).
The customer service could use a little help.
Zara has a wide variety selection of women clothing that suits anyone from a student to an office lady! One can grow up with Zara! There are plenty of classic office wear to choose from: fitted suits and trousers, flirty tops and skirts, elegant evening dress and the colour is always pleasing and the cut flattering the body. I wish I could come here to shop more often! This store is very true to the one I am used to in London; they seem to carry a similar theme of clothing which I like because of the good quality and young but classic styling.
My Spanish is a bit rusty, but I'm almost 100% sure that the way to say "Crab-addled Spanish hooker who looks like walking Picasso painting Rossy De Palma with a penis hidden under her tired Gucci Tom Ford-era rip-off coat" is "Zara."
But this review isn't about my poor Spanish or shitty taste. No sir. See, I've heard from many women that Zara must be designing for drop-ins at the Madrid Overeaters Anonymous because the sizes there are bulimorexically fly. I always found this claim puzzling since -- leaving aside the fact that I don't want to dress like a metrosexual gigolo with slicked-back hair -- the men's clothes have ALWAYS been too big on me. Oh, and PERDONE WHILE I APUKE UP ZEES PAELLA.
Well, since I'm blessed with a natural sense of curiosity often leading to utter embarrassment, I realized that the only way for me to test the veracity of this complaint would be to try on some choice ZARA WOMAN garments. So the other night I walked into Zara and snagged a few blouses and one tasteful draped white cotton muslin dress with a choker. All the items looked good on the hanger, and I made sure to pick up a "small" and a "medium." I jumped in the first open dressing room, drew the drapes, and threw on the "small" dress. Surprisingly it fit, though it also made me look like Caligula's cum rag en route to the vomitorium: http://static.px.yelp....
This proves two things:
1. That dress was really fucking ugly.
2. Zara should indeed size their clothes for normal women because, yeah, I fit in a small, but think about it: I HAVE THE BODY OF A FUCKING FOURTEEN-YEAR OLD BOY! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!? I mean, you know the sizing scale for women is fucked up when *I* fit in shit -- I HAVE NEITHER BOOBS NOR HIPS, MOTHERFUCKERS!
p.s., okay, some items are adorable. Also, the salespeople didn't bat an eye when I sauntered into the women's dressing area, which may be because they thought I actually WAS a woman, but I'm so insecure about my already stunted, castrated masculinity and I won't consider that as an option, so three stars. Think I'll buy a Hummer. In white, to go with the frock.
I approve...
simply because the gf likes some of the stuff from here. Some interesting coats for guys though. Ever notice much of the clothing here is either black or purple?
I love this store! Even though the American stores are behind (I have a belief Zara ships all their old stuff to the U.S.), Zara has a lot of feminine, romantic pieces and work pieces. I love their one-piece dresses and dress shirts. Their cotton is really soft. It is a bit pricey (anything other than Zara Basic), but it's well worrth it and sometimes you can find the orange tag sales! My BF always tries to steer me away from Zara since I always find something I like.
I won't go over the Zara concept, as we all know what it is: H&M for 20-somethings. Started in Europe; the cuts and styles tend to be more "European" than other stores here... anyways.
Staff: Like every other store around Union Square - from GAP to Neiman Marcus - the place is a zoo and the staff are pissy. They can be depended upon to ring you up, and MAYBE find sizes if they're having a good day. Style advice, not so much, at least from my experience.
Store: Displays are very similar to those in an H&M or an Express: organized chaos. Styles are kind of jumbled around, which means you have to look at everything on every rack on the entire floor.
Fitment: Shirts and jackets are cut pretty rakish, which I prefer, but in a weird way. Shirts fit tight across the chest and in the shoulders, but the sleeves are crazy long. If you're 6'2" and 150 lbs, THIS IS YOUR STORE. Otherwise, don't bother. If you tailor the stuff it just ends up looking even weirder. (Yes, I tried!)
Style: Quasi-Euro-trendy, probably around a season behind what they have over there. I consider fit to be part of the styling, and again, their cuts are really weird. The stuff is not "classic," so you'll need to constantly update your wardrobe. If you're a clothes horse, that's a good thing!
Quality: Sort of between H&M and GAP. They do a pretty good job of aligning panels, seams look good, things that should be lined, are. Lots of blends and synthetics, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on how you roll.
Summary: well, none of it fits me, browsing there gives me a headache, and personally I'd rather have well-fitting, if "classic" stuff at a place like Nordstrom. I'd give it 3 or 4 stars if the stuff fit, because then I could have a place to play around with cheap trendy stuff without having to go to Europe.
Found many adorable things..not that they looked all that great on me. At least I came away with something. Helpful staff that leaves you alone when they should....The sale items were still in good shape.
The Good: This location is great. Great decor, decent prices.
The Bad: None yet, although some of the staff does ignore your questions to your face like they're brain dead but whatever, I want the clothing, not someone to grovel at my feet.
Meh....
clothing is alright looking, but the selection is limited. I think (hope) the quality excellent, because for the price, it's lacking in something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this store just makes the drawn-out sound, "Mehhhhh...." come to mind.
I bought a couple pair of pants, and ended up returning them all. The staff is courteous, but not overly friendly. They seem like they hate their jobs and/or are instructed to have a very blasé attitude about themselves. It kind of matches the feel of the store and clothing, so I'm betting on the latter.
There's more and better out there. I think this place is trying to be a Prada rip-off. Too bad they can't deliver.
I had to give an average rating. 3 stars for their clothes (mainly size issues) and 1 star for their customer service.
Their clothes are nice when I can find an S size, which seems to be like looking for a four leaf clover in this store. I don't care how many people complain about this store being for "skinny bitches" because hey, it ain't skinny enough for me. When I find something that does fit me it feels like an embrace from your fantasy lover. It's that good. Or maybe it's a feeling I have induced from the agonizing search for something that fits me while I look around at all the cool things that DON'T. Regardless, the satisfaction is there.
On to their customer service. Do the people that work there not realize that the people buying these clothes translates into their pay checks? I feel like I'm in their way whenever I go there. They act so pre-occupied with everything and never say a word to ask if you need help finding a size or have a question. My friend says it's because they're foreign. I say it's because they're stuck up. As Alain J Roy says, "Attitude runs from the top down." Time for some new management.
To be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting much when I saw Zara at first glance but my good friend's partner told me that I could find some cute threads here for a reasonable price.
I was actually impressed way more by the sales rack than the actual season's line up. Don't get me wrong, I was fantasizing about the cute short black leather jacket that I tried on (damn, that thing look sweet and with red heels, good Lord!) but, alas, it was way too pricey and I knew that I would end up finding a vintage, more weathered version on eBay or one of the cool consignment shops in Hayes Valley or some place off Valencia.
Overall, I really highly recommend getting some embroidered t-shirts and blouses in the sales section. The mark downs are easy on the wallet - seriously (i.e., 29.99 shirt for 9.99!). If you're patient enough, there's good stuff that goes on sale and, again, it's not ridiculously expensive but definitely visit Zara, see some clothes or outfits you like, walk around some more and decide if you really "need" it or just "want" it. Otherwise, dig in the Sales section for some good stuff!
I'm 5'10" and weigh 155 lbs. I usually wear a size 10 or 12, depending on the store, the brand, etc.
I have never been able to find one thing in this store that fit me properly, and the quality of the clothes are such that they wouldn't stand up to alteration.
Yet another infuriating shopping experience.
I will more than likely never buy anything here. The men's offerings, while somewhat attractive, would make me look like a nearly thirty-something trying to be a early-twenty something wishing they were still in high school. No thanks, I've already got my sneaks to do that for me.
Some of the dresses for ladies however.... yum! A lot of them were reasonably priced around $30-40 and were ridiculously cute. Too bad my ass wouldn't look good in most of them.
Not that I crossdress or anyth---

They need to start carrying size XXXL for me. Apparently, Europeans are just that much smaller than us fat Americans because I can't even get one arm through a size M coat. In most brands, a size M would do just fine. I went shopping in one of their stores in New York, and after discovering that I couldn't get my fat Michelin Man arm through a size M, tried on a size L. Nope, Michelin Man arm still wouldn't go through. They were out of XL. I tried several other locations in NY looking for that same adorable coat. There seemed to be a shortage on XL. (Gee, I wonder why.) I gave up.
For my birthday, my friend bought me a cardigan sweater from the San Francisco Zara store, size large. I can't even button it over my enormous porn star boobs.* The material is stretchy and fits like nylon pantyhose over my Michelin Man arms. I'm going to have to exchange it, but I doubt even an XL would fit over my porn star boobs* and Michelin Man arms.
Maybe I'll exchange it for some nice one-size-fits-all Michelin Men accessories instead.
The clothing is cute and reasonably priced, though, so it gets three stars, assuming you can find something in your size.
*for purposes of this review "porn star boobs" = "B cup."
In my desperate search for a dress to use in my Halloween costume I floated through the Haight, sailed into the second-hand stores on Fillmore and eventually washed up on the banks of that bastion of consumption --- Westfield Shopping Center.
Drawn by a pretty silver dress, I stepped into my first Zara's experience:
Oooh - cheap clothes --- just what I need! Really.
Wow - I'm feeling immensely fat in these clothes. Who decides their sizes?
Hmm - that dress just won't work. I wonder if someone will help me?
Great --- she's super-friendly and knows all of her stock. I'm so glad I asked that salesperson for help!
Yes --- the perfect dress. And can I have that last display hat waaaaayyy up there?
Sigh --- the line is seven people deep, they have three people at the cashwrap and only one register working. WTF.
I now call Zara's the 'exclamation' store. Every experience or interaction required an exclamation of some sort. But I will be back --- with the exception of the checkout experience, I found the service here to be warm, friendly and helpful. Especially so as they were completely overrun with customers.
This store reminds me of Forever 21's older sibling with it's slightly more expensive prices, better stitching, and more clothing for the older working class crowd.
I go here for work basics and there's always plenty on sale..
I was looking at a shirt's tag, it said "xs" then i heard a voice behind me:
"There is a medium size here too"
WTH??!! This is America, in America, with 5"3 and 113 lbs I DON'T WEAR SIZE MEDIUM!!!! I felt like the work out i do everyday all went down the drain, ARGH!!
Anyways, after that i didn't feel like trying anything on, but my friend insisted me to do so, i ended up buying a hoodie and a tank top for 30 bucks, gosh, i hate it so much but i still am giving 3 stars because of their clothes and cheap price. ARGH!!
While desperately hunting for a wool coat to beat the San Francisco weather, I spent weeks swinging by here every couple days after work to see if they had the perfect coat in stock. I knew exactly what I wanted: black, funnel neck, belted, and knee length.
Found variations of it throughout the city, but never in my size or the right fit. Finally the day came when Zara had exactly what I'd been looking for with extra detailing of military style buttons. The best part was that I was willing to spend $300 on a winter coat, but ended up spending $129 here.
The coat was my usual size of x-small, but the sizing of some of their other clothes runs small. I'm usually a size 2 or 4 (34 European), but I tried on a pair of adorable skinny leg herringbone trousers and ended up being a size 8 (38 European).
I learned about Zara in one of my college courses on global economics. Apparently they keep costs low with high fashion turn-around by doing everything in-house in Spain. They got people watching the latest trends on Spanish runways who quickly sketch up designs to be produced by their Spanish manufacturers and shipped by Spanish distributors. I kinda like the idea of them decreasing their global footprint by not outsourcing their work. Yet another reason to shop here.
Since when does a guy who borders on "M" sized shirts have to wear "XL"? Lots of classy-looking clothes & somewhat reasonable in price, but I need to design a special Men's fitting chart for this place.
The store is of Italian origin, so the quality of the clothing is much better than your Old Navy...err....H&M product, but dear lord they must be making the clothes for the midgets.
When I decide I'm in the market for some classy-looking clothes again, I will take my mini-man pill and return.
I don't usually shop here, the clothing is enticing initially, and then I buy it and the quality is not top notch - but it's a relatively inexpensive trendy European style store - so no big deal.
I recently found a copy of the famous Fall Balenciaga piped striped blazer at Zara, that I was seriously considering dropping thousands for - and said - whoa! $70 - what a deal!. So I bought it. I think their fit models are tiny, super skinny size 0 models, and the large is a size 4 model - b/c I got the large and it's tight on me - where I can usually fit Small to Medium in most jackets. Oh well, I suffer for fashion, and love it when I can get it for cheap.
Here's the GBU (Good, Bad, Ugly) review:
Good
1. Worth the stop in to see what trendy wares they have for cheap
2. Good selection, usually organized in types of styles (like safari looking clothing all together), sweaters together, etc.
Bad
1. Dressing rooms can be quite busy and crowded. Usually a wait on busy weekends.
2. Waiting in line for checking out can be painful. I waited about 20 minutes to buy my jacket, only one cashier and only 3 people in front of me.
Ugly
1. Get real American sized models and clothing. These clothes don't fit all that well - unless you're a size 0-4. And, a size 4 could be making some of their clothes stretch a bit.
Low price and in style clothing. Don't expect too much on the quality, see it another what you pay what you get. I will never pay another pair of pants from there. BAD quality for REAL..
Overall it's a pretty nice store except you have go through each rack for sizes.
Zara is one of those "fast fashion" places cropping up like H&M, designed to offer trendy clothing at a reasonable price.
They have some decent items here, but I think I'm getting a bit too long in the tooth to pull off some of the looks. Plus, the sizing is all wrong...everything feels at least 1 or 2 sizes smaller than tagged so I end up wearing a L or XL in shirts or jackets. Most of the men's stuff is cut for a slimmer silhouette and although I'm not fat or super muscular by any means, I do have trouble with the fits esp. with the armholes. My friend who works out quite a bit couldn't comfortably put anything on of any size. Buff dudes are definitely SOL at this place.
Maybe if I were 20 yrs old again (and 140lbs) I would dig this place more...but at this point it's really not my cup of tea.
