I love you.
Slightly above my budget, but great quality.
There's something for everyone, and the clothes feel like they were MADE for you (and this is coming from someone just over 5 feet tall...)
For Christmas, all I'm asking is for some extra time & money to spend in Zara. :D
This particular store is a little disorganized, but with multiple levels, I suppose it's a lot to manage? But I love how the store is arranged by style and the way some pieces are put together is sometimes so inspiring. I'm not the most fashion-forward person in the world, so I'm always in awe when I walk into Zara.
Once a Japanese guy whom I respect for in San Francisco said to me, "To judge people by their clothes is bad but to be judged by your clothes is worse."
So I always dress nicely.
The problem is that I am not a "fashionable" person at all.
I have no idea about fashion.
So I asked a friend of mine in Paris, who constantly attends Paris Collection, where I should go to get decent clothes.
He did not say anything but "Follow me! ", he took me to Zara in Paris.
Since then, Zara is a rare place that I can shop clothes without worries about fashion.
I love their European style, the sizing is great and the price is acceptable.
European people has thin bodies and I have a thin body too.
The only problem is that I am not as tall as Europeans and have shorter arms so sleeves are always too long.
I usually have to take clothes to my tailor to shorten the sleeves but that is not a big problem to me.
In this Union Square shop, clerks don't talk to us much but that is good to me since I can shop without any pressures from the clerks.
Lovin Zara!!! got my very first dress coat from there and wore it everyday...fabric held up and still to this day looks great 6 years later! very form fitting clothes! fashionable styles and overall just reasonable prices for what you are getting. Def have to get the cutting edge styles while they last cuse stuff sells out quick.
i would recommend Zara to any of my friends any time!
So would this be a yelp of the Zara brand/clothes itself..or the actual store?
I'll try to do both.
CLOTHES REVIEW
\What can I say..I love my fashion fitted since I'm not particularly a big guy. I think the style here is great and I definitely like it more than 'American' fashion. I still need some alterations on lengths - but the shoulders are great and proportions are fitted/slim. Very trendy stuff - I've actually only bought jackets, a pair of shoes and sweaters. Higher quality than H&M, but still provides the ability to keep prices low and deliver quickly on fashion trends.
Haven't really tried their jeans or business gear so I can't comment on it.
As for the store - very helpful staff and well-lit. Sometimes the music is pretty funky; but that's just my taste. Makes me sometimes feel like I'm back in Europe with the electronica/dance music. Lalalala...
i love fashion blogs!
fashion blogs not only teach me how to dress better, they teach me about stores i've never heard of that i should have been shopping at for years!
i just went to zara for the first time. ever. i felt really out of the loop as i tried to navigate the three floors (the main floor scared me. everything looked like it was made for 35-year old business analysts).
but when i finally figured out i needed to go UP, i felt like a made-it.
DUDE.
1. the perfect stretchy-droopy-neutral-thin cardigan
2. the perfect indescribable oversized paint-splattery ropey-decorated t-shirt
3. the perfect PVC pants which made me sweat within 2 seconds of putting them on (didn't buy those)
super happy with my reasonably-priced purchases.
definitely going back to try on some of those slouchy/tapered trousers i keep thinking about. and maybe one of those faux furs and the studded boots and...
this could be the start of something very bad.
I really like shopping a Zara. Prices are good for the quality, styles are out of the ordinary but not out there. Cant think of another store in its class. If you can, feel free to make recommendations.
Zara is a good place to get cheap good quality slim cloths. I am pretty skinny and most of the places I go to smalls can't even fit me right. SO I like going to Zara and find that smalls fit me prefect.
HOWEVER, in this location they need to train their staff better!!! SERIOUSLY one of the worst customer service ever!! the people who work in the dressing room was okay but the CASHIER, especially the BLONDE with earrings was very rude. SHE could not break $100bill and need an manager to come by..after 15min later and a long line she still stands there like a stupid blonde!! she could of help other people in line with their transaction. and when I ask her a question she was snobby and rude.
I would not want to shop at this location and rather shop at the one in the mall they have better customer service!
3.5
The clothing here, without a doubt, is much higher in quality than F21 and H&M, hence the higher prices. I especially like the range of styles and the non-overwhelming layout of the store. The majority of the employees are quite friendly and helpful as well.
My biggest gripe is that whenever I find a piece that I like and am willing to pay for, I can NEVER find it in my size (XS-0). It was quite a recent deflating shopping excursion for me because I found pieces that I was really stoked about only to discover the smallest they had was an M. :(
Anyway, if in the area, I'll definitely be back...but do note, since you are probably going to be spending quite some time perusing the clothing racks here, the closest bathroom is at Niketown on the 7th floor.
Like all other said, better than H&M, less expensive than Armani Exchange.
The quality of the clothes are above average.
The styles are definitely superb.
If you want to look nice and sleek, this is the place.
Too bad, there isn't any Zara store in SJ.
but it's definitely worth driving all the way to SF.
When i need to go shopping, this is the place. Union Square has everything i need.
If you have never been to Zara, it's time to check it out.
I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it!
I fell in love with Zara while living in Mexico, where it's the IN store if you're anybody who's somebody (or, in Mexican Spanish, a "fresa"). It's actually cheaper here, I think, but still too expensive for everyday shopping. (Not that I shop everyday or anything!) The only thing I've gotten from this store was a shirt I saw down in Mexico that was on sale here. Score!! I'd almost give 5 stars for that alone, but given I couldn't afford anything that wasn't on sale, 4 stars it is. (The prices really aren't that bad, I'm just cheap!)
I've been a Zara fan since I discovered them on an adolescent trip to Spain. I was thrilled when they hopped the pond to London, and even more so when I discovered SF had allowed them space on their turf.
As a brand, I appreciate that Zara helps me (try to) look uber sophis. on a budget. My complaints would be that they've jacked up prices over the years, and sadly manufacture beautiful jackets with shitty button workmanship. It's almost as if 2 years ago they switched vendors, and now ALL their buttons fall off (I'm not exaggerating. ALL of them.) They also need to leave a little more room in the chest (seriously. I'm not a particularly well-endowed woman, and I pop out frequently.)
I like this store because it's large, well-organized, and has a sizable men's department (which means I can visit without Donny S. whining). They have a nice shoe collection and their dressing rooms are never crowded. Salespeople also super helpful, and they have a friendly security card (as opposed to one who looks at you like you're thieving).
If you're slim, or just plain skinny, Zara is a great place to get cheap good quality cloths with perfect cuts. I'm on the skinny side, so most of the time when I buy clothes it needs to be altered anyways. That always adds even more to the cost. At Zara you will find stylish threads that fit without modification. This location is cool, I haven't been to the location in the mall yet.
Pro: I always walk in here thinking that I'm just going to "check it out" and end up at the checkout counter with my arms full of coats, shirts, and skirts.
Con: I feel torn about the prices. Prices for coats are good, but high for their accessories and etc.
Pro: I like this store because there's more roaming room (compared to the Westfield location). And I hate feeling like I'm elbow to elbow with other shoppers. I like to spread out and graze, you know what I mean?
Con: The buttons on some of their shirts pop open sporadically and always during the most inconvenient times (like when I'm talking to my boss, or a client). WTF?
Pro: Not too many "off the wall" styles - cute, great fit, and more subdued.
3.5 stars
Nice things that they carry! They have good children sections too
Not sure why they have a security guard by the door, but he was very polite. I wonder if someone has try to run off with all the cool stuff in there ;)
I have a real love hate relationship going on with Zara, I always go in super excited to buy new clothes, spend forever looking around, pick out a few things, but none of them ever fit very well. Pretty much, if you have any breasts at all, nothing will fit properly here.
I have however found a few great things, which is why I keep coming back, but sadly the majority of the time I leave empty handed ( I guess it's not so sad for my wallet, things can be pricey here).
So nice to have something other than H&M, Banana Republic or Express. Zara is a breath of fresh air. Layout of the store is nice and not cluttered.
Reasonably priced and the quality doesn't look like it's about to fall apart after one wash. Expect to pay a bit more than H&M, but less than Banana. Good selections for him and her.
I feel bad for those that don't have a Zara in their neck of the woods. ;)
Really great deals on Men's clothing when there is a sale but don't forget to bounce between this location and the one in the Westfield Shopping Center (aka Bloomingdale's Building) on Market.
Often I find a pair of jeans or pants I like at one location but they don't have my size, so I bounce over to the other location to find my size. I have even been known to buy the pair I like (not my size) at one location and take them to the other location to ask a manager or sales clerk to find them in my size. If they don't come up with it I just return for credit at that location. After all, it's all the same company and I'm sure they have an interoffice credit system so that the store where I returned it does not show loss of revenue.
Both store have very personable staff members and there is never any pressure to buy and they won't hover over you. Just MAKE SURE you try anything on first because the sizing is "off" for American (US) sizing.
{sigh} So here's my first 1 star review ever and my first review of 2009. Hope this doesn't bode badly for the year.
There's little that's more irritating while shopping than to find that something rings up at an incorrect higher price. What IS more irritating is poor customer service when trying to resolve the issue.
The only men's belt rack in the store has a big sign "ALL $14.99." I tried to buy two of them. They both rang up at $34.99 (one was tagged $34.99, one $19.99). The saleswoman was incomprehensible, and the male manager she grabbed wasn't helpful. They said that they would sell them at the price marked, but not at the posted price. They said it wasn't their fault if other customers had put the belt there or if a salesperson had put out the wrong stock. (Again, no other belts anywhere on the floor). I asked for the manager's manager, and he said something vague about there being several managers. I took the number for corporate instead. But I felt like I was being manipulated, and the saleswoman was clearly guiding the manager -- the store just makes rules up on the fly.
I went upstairs and asked a different staff person for the name of the male manager downstairs so that when I called corporate, I could say who I had been speaking to. She said there was no male manager working downstairs (um, okay). I asked for a different manager, and I was given the store manager (Marije Krist) who basically tried to manage the situation by listening but wouldn't budge on prices. She said that the belt was part of the "summer collection" and that sometimes belts are put out next to clothes on display, blah blah blah.
I always thought stores needed to honor pricing, especially when it's an unambiguous mistake and they admit their error. They actually changed the sign after I made a fuss. To emphasize my point, other customers had similar problems with pricing during the time that I was there as well. (One actually interrupted me because his shirt was ringing up wrong -- Krist said it was because the shirt had "long sleeves", while he was arguing that all the racked shirts had long sleeves.) The whole situation was super irritating.
I had been very excited about discovering Zara Men's in Hong Kong, and that's why I went in the store here, to see if they had Men's. I spent over an hour and had another $100 item I was trying to purchase as well. Basically, they would have made a regular customer out of me if they had provided decent customer service, and they still would have made plenty of money on the transaction. Instead, they had me seething. I won't be back. You shouldn't go either.
I go crazy everytime i go shopping at Zara! So many cute clothes, and so cheap, I'm overwhelmed. H&m and Forever 21 are no comparison in style. You can get a shirt for under 50, but if you mix it up with a nicer piece you bought elsewhere, wahla, it can look just as chic as pieces from more expensive brands. Sure it lacks fabric quality and durability, but at least it doesn't break your bank for a seasonal piece.
The one thing that sucks is they carry limited quantity per size in stock. So the things u see now might be gone in 2 weeks. But I guess that's how they can bring in new styles all the time.
Better quality than HM and of course a bit more expensive. They use designers around the world so many pieces for men and women are unique, eclactic as well as classic if you want it.
I love this place.
This location is much bigger and has a lot more selection than the one on Market Street. But I still love going to both locations.
They have a small but very cute little girl's section.
The security guards at the door greet you when you enter and leave. That's always nice.
I love this hip, trendy clothing store
End of story
Zara is pretty damn cool!
The clothing here is from designers from Spain, or predominantly from Spain. My friend Lauren use to work for Zara back in the day. I'd like to think that I'm clothing savvy and being a guy, I was relegated to mostly holding bags; there IS a men's section, but the styling was a little bit TOO Euro for me - I prefer hardcore American sexiness honestly.
(pics on my pic section).
Lauren is pretty tall and if you're a tall girl, this place has got some awesome clothing for girls with the legs (nice! She's 5'11").
Go check it out - the clothing is amazingly priced; I was expecting to see tags in the $100's but nope, it's very nicely priced and worth checking out!
Okay. I need to update this once more. I had bought one coat for myself and one for my cousin, however she didn't like it so I had to return hers. I took my coat back as well to check if they had a size small in stock (they didn't have one at the time I bought mine so I ended up with a M).
So I went in with the two coats both with their tags on still. I wanted to return one and hopefully find a small in the other. I didn't find a small size in the coat that I bought for myself, but I liked it so much that I decided I would keep it. I noticed that the price tag on it went down from $90 to $70 on the rack. They no longer had my coat size in stock, but I thought I could get the price adjusted since I hadn't worn it yet. I was wrong! Nope, cannot adjust the price. I asked if I could return it then buy it again. Nope! They gave me some lame answer about how the coat wouldn't be back on the rack until a few days later. Gah. So I just returned my cousin's coat and kept mine. And now that I've cut the tag off to wear it out, I've realized that it's too big for me and I really should've gotten a small or not gotten one at all. Oh well!

Know what? After thinking about my coat a little more, it fits perfectly. I'm slightly taller than… Read more »
They have up to date clothes at reasonable prices. I seem to find something just about every time I visit the store.
Man! I didn't know Zara made underwear with a tiny pocket sewn inside that allows you the freedom to carry a roll of coins, a plastic whistle, or your car key with alarm dongle. That's wicked!
Just kidding! (Please don't call your nearest Zara to place a pair on hold for you.)
Let me sum up Zara: Purveyors of good looking, stylish, fitted dress suits and jackets for less, I guarantee it. Whoa! That sounded like a sound bite from a T.V. suit salesman, didn't it?
Oh well. It's true.
Of course, I'm referring to Zara's Men's apparel, I can't speak on behalf of their woman's wear cause women have a vast selection of clothing stores to choose from. Us men, have a handful (not including the department stores) to chose from, so we have to be grateful.
So if we want to look suave for the ladies and not dress like douches who wear Ed Hardy hats tilted on our crowns; tight v-neck shirts with skulls, vines, and more skulls; tapered jeans with gold rivets at the seams, and a belt buckle bigger than a omelet skillet, then go buy something at Zara.
A spanish treasure in union square. I go there for the Men's jeans, slacks, dress shirts and jackets. Perfect fit, great quality for such a reasonable price considering the semi-high fashion designs. Put it this way, its more stylish than Banana Republic's top lines but at the same or better price. Their style is more european and not as boring as places like Banana Republic or Kenneth Cole.
Side note, I was in Barcelona/Northern Spain for a month this summer and I was really impressed on how much nicer the SF store was compared to the Zara's stores I visited in Spain. I hear the SF Union Square store is the Flag ship store for all of the U.S.
Love this place! Minus 1 star because sometimes that don't have enough inventory and new styles get bought out fast but that's apparently because of their business model which is highly regarded in the business world.
I love European fashion. Zara's cool. They usually do knock-offs of popular high-fashion items so it's a good place to get trendy stuff. It's a little expensive and the quality's not great (some items don't last long) but it's good for getting pieces to update your look.
The cutting is more body-conscious which is great as it gives more shape. I come here when I want to get something more interesting. My husband loves their shirts, pants and jeans.
I got a great 100% wool chanel-like cardigan for $20 on sale!
Bad news is that they only have 2 outlets in the bay area and both are in the city. This outlet is bigger but the one on Market in Westfield mall is more convenient.
If I could put zero stars here, I would!!! Talk about a big corporate bully!!! I bought a cute $29.99 top that didn't up looking too cute on me after all. I was already past the 30 day return deadline but knew that I could get store credit (works for me). Well, they give you store credit for how much it costs when you return it. My $29.99 top turned into $9.99. Ok. That was bad. BUT IT GOT WORSE. When I was walking around the store looking for a $9.99 piece that I could get that compares to a $29.99 item when I saw the piece I was trying to return for $29.99!!!!!!! They were still selling it for $29.99. So I marched back to the counter with the $29.99 top and my devalued $9.99 top and demanded an explanation. The reasoning: the company had changed the serial number of the item from a zero to a two. Yup. You read it right.
So I was a bit angry. I walked around the store looking at the clearance sections and never saw the same top for $9.99 because of the serial number. Because why would ANYONE buy a top for $29.99 when they could just buy it for $9.99. Needless to say, I didn't return my top because YOU KNOW they would just have added that new serial number to my return and sold it for $29.99.
Although the clothes are cute, that is such inappropriate business and I'm on a full campaign to tell people that ZARA is slimey!
This review might be a little biased for several reasons, the main one being I've worked at this Zara. Granted it was only 3 months, but these months I will never get back and never forget!
A lot of the people working there were awesome...if you get to know them. Others, seem to be walking around with a permanent stick up their asses. No offense if you think this might be you. For the most part, their professionalism and sale skills are there however Zara is completely lacking in customer service training when it comes to dealing with complaints.
Zara has amazing sales twice per year, and I've noticed that since I quit working there, I find myself visiting only around those special times of year. It's ot worth it to go on regular sales days because you can just wait a few months and get what you originally wanted for a fraction of the original price. I've been known to get amazing bargains there: $15 jeans that are form fitting and comfortable, $4.99 for summer tank tops, etc.
However, be aware of buying things you are not completely certain about because Zara's return policy was developed by Satan himself. There is absolutely no store credit for returns, if you received something as a gift, the value has to be returned to the original purchasing credit card. NEVER NEVER EVER cut off the litle bar code attached to the inside of a garment if you plan on returning it; and don't buy a garment that doesn't have that bar code on it because that's your only lifeline when it comes to returning that item. Also, you will only get the sale value back on an item that you bought at full price and is now on sale....basically price adjustments are a no-no.
Last but not least, I do have to thank Zara for giving me my new best friend because JR (just initials for privacy reasons) and I started working there the same day, and ended up quitting within 1 week of each other, which was not planned at all. So thank you Zara for letting me meet my new BFF!!
Zara has really stylish, fitting clothes, that I am a great fan of! Regular price items can be bit much, but wait a couple weeks and it'll go on sale! Customer service is always great as well!
The good: Slim fit for guys. Higher quality than most brands at old navy prices. Decor is good.
The Bad: Im cheap and want there to be sales but there is like only 1 a year. Also, some of the clothing is too euro or homo for straight men.
A place I stop in to find inexpensive fun stuff. I like the product, I like the price, but NOBODY said hello or even gave a glimpse of a smile the entire time I was there. The store was one of the busiest in Union Square, and I bet they could sell quite a bit more with a more helpful staff.
Crap, I knew it would be time sooner or later for me to review Zara. I have the most gnarly love-hate relationship ever with this store. And it's so intense, that I actually used the word gnarly just now.
Though I'd never heard of it before my first visit a year and a half ago, I knew we'd be fast friends as soon as I stepped foot on the Men's Lower Level. Smalls were actually small. What a novel concept! Sure, the sizes are Euro skinny chic, but that's totally me- without the Euro or chic part. I found a random shirt that was super cheap and super cute, and not even on sale! Win.
Fast forward to October 2007, and I was in dire need of new dress shoes. Let's just say the pair I purchased get me compliments like they're going out of style. They fit me like a quality shoe should, and the price was less than a Benjamin. You can't beat it!
Now in the span between March 2007 and NOW (besides the one shirt and shoes), I haven't found anything that's both in my exact size and cute. I want to love Zara so badly, but my constant disappointment hurts too much. (I stupidly come here quite often, hoping to rekindle the magic with no luck.)
Why the 5 star review? The shoes, baby. The shoes.
I could not possibly love Zara any more than I do!! The clothes fit well and they are uber-stylish and completely affordable. But the best part is the friendly and spot-on service at both San Francisco stores! Every time I go in there I can rely on great people to help me out with picking out flattering pieces and helping me create outfits.
Love the selection there, and the quality and style is so much better than Zara's counterparts (H&M and F21). I feel fashion-forward and taken care of every time I walk out the door!
Thank you, Zara SF!
There is nothing like retail therapy. Zara gives you style without having to look at the price tag. Chic clothing for men, women, and children all under one roof. One of a kind style without the couture prices. Zara? Loving you is easy when you are this chic and cheap!
I rarely, and I mean RARELY share my shopping habits and secrets. I love couture and high end brands but I never pay retail. EVEN when its in season, I have tricks up my sleeve to get past things like this. *wink wink*
I discovered Zara in 2000 on a trip to Vancouver with the girls. The US dollar was up and I shopped till I dropped inside their 2 story store. I spent about 600 Can and nearly fell over when I saw the conversion rate on my credit card. I could have bought MORE!!!
Anyway, after hoping and praying for more Zara, I had another spree in Miami in 2003. I couldn't sacrifice leaving anything cute behind because we didn't have one in the bay area.
Enter 2008. We have plenty of Zara's in SFO! My dream come true!!
I know some stuff they carry is total F21 quality. I know this store like the back of my hand so I ONLY go for their "Zara Woman" line. (stay on the walls and avoid the racks in the middle) The quality is very nice and I rarely have to see a tailor for jackets and tops. Pants are another story. My BF took me on a belated christmas shopping spree last weekend b/c we traveled during the holidays. I am set for spring!!! They had everything I could ever want for this season. I'm wearing the jacket I picked out right now and I loveeee it.
Zara Woman prices vary from about $49 for tops, $69 for pants and $129 for well made jackets for work. Very affordable if you throw out half of what you buy at F21..I think investing in quality over quantity beats saving a few dollars ANY day!
OH, HOW I LOVE THEE ZARA!!! Ladies, I know you will too!
I never knew of this place until my girlfriend introduced me.
Men's jackets are great here!
I've officially found a place to get excellently made and fashionably designed men's jackets. The store is relaxed and you are not frequently hassled by store workers. The clothes fit nicely on slim figured individuals like myself. I am a new avid fan and I am certain to return on a regular basis, along with my Puma visits--on that note, if you like Puma gear, then you will naturally like Zara fashion.
Funny story. I went to Europe a few years ago and that was when I first saw a Zara store. For various reasons I won't go into, I never had the opportunity to go in. I was a little disappointed.
I had a 'hit myself on the head' moment when I happened to be shopping downtown SF one day, I turned around, and there was a Zara store right there! When did that show up??? Anyway, I went in and I wasn't impressed. The material of the clothes was not very good quality, and as much as I love clothes, I've never found anything that suited my style.
I guess this just isn't the store for me, but you'd think that over the last few seasons, there would be something I'd want to buy. As someone else mentioned, this is like a better quality H&M - but it's more expensive too. I can actually find things in H&M I like, but not here. Oh well...
I really like Zara. I'll admit, the woman manning the fitting room was not very helpful, but at least she was not obtrusive?
I bought a suit on sale here this past weekend for $70. READ IT, $70. Plus, I think the quality here is really good. Sure, it's not designer, but it's better than your H&M or what have you. The blazer was double lined, fit nicely, and felt great. My only complaint is that the pants are EXTREMELY long and I will need to get them hemmed. Mind you, I'm not short either... I'm about 5'7" and I will still need to get them hemmed about 2 inches with heels on. I also saw this trenchcoat that was really cute for only $60... but I felt bad for buying a suit AND a trenchcoat - I'm kinda cheap. I agree about the sizing... They seem to run small on the S/M/L scale, but if you buy items with actual sizing (2/4/6/8 etc.), those seem to agree well with what I'm used to.
Another minor complaint: they don't have garment bags. Shouldn't a place that sells suits and coats have garment bags? Regardless, I got a suit for $70. I am happy.
