Zara
23 reviews for Zara
I love Zara!
The clothes fit me perfectly and they're moderately priced. You might find them for a few cents cheaper at H&M but why not go to both - they're on the same street.
Clean classic hip and trendy clothes for men. Big selection for women/kids too. If you are looking for unique clothes or have a European style...u will love this store.
I'm a die hard Zara fan, when I saw they were opening a store on Michigan Av. I couldn't wait; on opening day I was there despite the piss poor weather. Alas, my first visit was a disappointment. At first I thought the problem was the collection, which seemed downright mediocre, but I've been back since then and found some pretty amazing things, like gorgeous silk blouses for ok prices (they may look flimsy, but they are not- I speak from experience).
After my second visit I think the problem with the store is the lighting- if I were them I would seriously consider adding more lights; there is no point in having great things if nobody can see them. Nothing stands out because there is not enough light to see anything! Add to that that the space is limited and the racks are too close together and shopping becomes a less than great experience.
Still, I know I will be back. Zara's clothes are trendy, but not so much that what you buy will look ridiculous in a month, they're durable, and although they are not H&M cheap, they are not expensive either, and given how long pieces last, the money I've spent there has been worth it every time.
Probably the worst retail experience I have ever had.
These stores open up with such clout, style and trendy motives that they forget a really important part of retail: structuring their service and customer relations.
Twenty people in line at the cash wrap to check out on the Men's floor. One man on one register, working at a pace of 10 minutes per customer. The rest of the spiky-haired employees with suits too small, shuffling around in and out from behind the cash wrap take no notice of a giant backup of ready-to-check out customers. It's ok, as long as they look good, right?
Girlfriend bought a coat, it's a nice coat. Needed to take the tags off, I guess corporate never gave the new store 1 pair of scissors. We were sent to two floors to get scissors. No scissors, but that really wasn't the point, we didn't even get through half our sentence asking for the scissors before getting the cold shoulder, "no, go away"
Of course H&M is busy, the employees aren't there to help you unlike other middle-of-the-line stores: Express, Jcrew and Banana, but Zara get over yourself and show some respect.
cheers.
I had been to the Dallas and Barcelona locations and wondered when one would open up in Chicago (as did my out of town friends). It happened. I was excited to check it out, but after stopping in, I thought, eh, it's going to be one of those: hit or definitely miss. The store itself wasn't as big as it looks. First and second floors have the womens and (and kids also on 2), and the men have to trudge up the escalators to the 3rd floor.
I can't say I was that disappointed because I did purchase a pretty comfy cardigan for a decent price. They did have some cute simple black dresses, which you can't have too many of, right? Sizes may run a little small, so definitely grab more than one size if you're trying stuff on. Speaking of dressing rooms, I overheard (yes, I eavesdropped, what of it) that womens jeans are geared toward junior sizes and for women with no curves. Well, hells bells, I guess I won't be trying/purchasing any from here then. The place is okay, and I'm sure I'll be back.
Mood went from shopping high to . . . meh. This store looks great from the Avenue, very stylish. Very European. I can predict that future collections might have things I'll really like. The pieces were simple, yet stylish, with subtle details that made them interesting, but not garish.
Love that there's few colors except black, and even fewer prints. Looks like my closet. Some cool sequinned stuff covered with matte sequins - not as cheap looking as the shiny ones.
The only gripe I had was yeah, you should take a garment off a mannequin when I ask to try it on, and that's the last one. Or has the mannequin already purchased that devastating subtly sequined motorcycle style jacket? I didn't like the attitude.
I was underimpressed on my first visit, but I'd give this place another try . . . after all, fashion always evolves. And their prices are suprisingly affordable.
This store is either a hit or miss for me. I think it's trendier than H&M and more "boutique-y." But, the sizes are funny (I'm a size 8-10) and I can barely fit into their medium shirts. That's not typical for me.
I think their fall coat s are adorable, but definitely over priced. I went today, and it was a miss. I will go back, but not anytime soon.
I've been to Zara in Korea and in Japan. I haven't been to a Zara in the states, but I had high expectations.
So, realizing that Zara opened on the Mag Mile a week or so ago, I went with a friend today. It was a complete zoo - there were kids crawling on the floor (seriously) and playing video games (yep) all over the the place. There was a lady I accidentally bumped into (gently) and I said "excuse me" and she yelled at me back and asked me if I was going to apologize! I was just baffled as to why this lady was on my case.
I went to go try some clothes on and I noticed that there were pretty bad makeup stains on a shirt. It was the only size left and I really wanted it, and the fitting room employee told me that I could get a price adjustment. So, I'm waiting at the register for 20 minutes and what do they tell me? That they can't give me a discount whatsoever and that I was misinformed.
Everyone in here, from the customers to the fitting room workers, was so unfriendly and extremely unpleasant to be around. Everyone was on edge and it was so stressful! I couldn't move without feeling trapped. And seriously, why are your kids crawling on the floor and blocking my way to a pretty shirt dress?
The shoes were pretty but they were all overpriced.
So disappointed in this Zara. Should have lowered my expectations.
Disappointed. Pretty much an overpriced H&M.
I've been to other Zaras before so I knew what I was getting into, and maybe I am just getting cranky in my old age, but I was very underwhelmed with what I saw. Lots of $70 sparkly mini skirts and pricey oversized sweaters.
Speaking of "sized"-ness, the sizes run fairly small. I'd say the lady's large is about a US 10. And though the clothes may be well made, it doesn't much matter if they are so unattractive as to not be worth buying in the first place.
Ok, my opinion might be peppered by the unlimited champagne they served tonight at the opening party but I see MANY promising things from Zara. I think they are going to be quite popular in Chicago.
They have recently surpassed H&M as the largest European retailer. I tried on some of the coats (they had a lot of military style coats with high collars. I like that, very practical for cold Chicago weather.) The fit was actually really good and the quality was better than I thought it would be. These are not severe cold weather coats but good for the less crazy cold winter days.
Their clothing is an upscale H&M. I saw a lot of fake fur/feathers, studded clothing, little dresses, poncho like sweaters and black black black. A good place for affordable work clothes and fun, unique going out pieces.
Opening party was a ton of fun. There were a lot of models they paid to stand around and wear their clothes. All the female store employees were wearing these hideous shirts with huge shoulder pads. There were a lot of fashion reporters and pr people out and about. We ran into quite a few people we knew oddly enough. Also, there were some men wearing leggings here. I KNEW that would be happening. They looked like gay men trixies with their leggings and knee high leather boots. The dance floor blew up a little at the end which was fun, they had a dj.
All clothes bought tonight were tax free also, loved it!
I love Zara but I wasn't feeling this location. I ALWAYS step out of Zara with something but I was disappointed today....
First of all, Zara has great style and their clothes last. I bought many things here and they have all held up very nicely. So no complaints about the brand...but the store....
They have a lot of clothes, but the size of the store is a bit on the small side. I'm not sure if its actually smaller than the Old Orchard location but it feels that way. Something about the layout of the store was off. It felt just a bit cramped, especially on the second floor where they display the TRF stuff and the children's clothes.
They had a good amount of stuff, the trends were right on, and there were lots and lots of coats in preparation for the winter.
Anyways, I'll be here often since I have class about 3 blocks away. Hopefully, I'll walk away with some things next time I'm here.
One more thing...They should really consider changing the lights or something in the dressing rooms. The way the light shines so directly down on me doesn't exactly look flattering... which may be a reason I didn't buy anything.
okok... One last thing... Their men's section is pretty pathetic! It was pretty small and there didn't seem to be as much variety as other locations...
Severely Underwhelmed-
I have been to zara in numerous countries- and I dont know if its just zara in America or zara's current collection, but i was just like uhhhh boring- nothing really inspired, nothing that screamed at me to grab it and run- very sedated, blah blah blah.
Only a winter coat caught my eye, and the sizing is a fiesta, always xs and large- those of us in the middle are SOL most of the time. Anyways, maybe in a few weeks the collection will change- location is great, layout of store is great, a bit dark to my tastes *time to take a NAP* but I think the clothes bring it down - I hope they turn it around.
The new Zara got a great location and they did a decent job with the layout aside from the fact that almost every single mirror they have is awkwardly placed. They either stuck it on a wall in a section where you'll be blocking the flow of traffic or tucked it between two display racks so that you can't really step back far enough to get a good look at yourself. Frustrating.
That aside, the clothes are just ok. Cheap sweaters with great color options made me happy, but the shape was just all wrong. The shape kinda looked like what happens if you machine was a sweater you aren't really supposed to machine wash and then didn't lay out out flat to dry. Fail. They had several different options for military type coats which were cool but I didn't care for their denim or shoe selection. As others have said, it's really just a slightly more upscale H&M.
It's okay. A step above H&M, yet I feel its almost on the verge of being to Euro (read: too much for the midwest. Might be too "Gay" for the "brahs" who are still on the Tapout/cagefighter/Affliction tip). It's about the size as the Old Orchard location.
Seriously...some good stuff .Stylish and classy if for only a season. Wish there was more in the mens department, tho.
Then again what do I know about fashion. I'm wearing neon/pastel color sneakers.
Finally!!!!! I don't have to go all the way to Old Orchard...or Europe to enjoy the wonderfulness of Zara. I fell head over heels in love with this store during a Euro trip, since it was on almost every corner of every European city.
The clothes are stylish, well made, and very reasonably price. It's like the European version of Express, but better and classier.
Today's shopping trip was not my first at a Zara. While studying abroad in Denmark I was a frequent shopper of the brand. What I loved about it was that these were literally knock offs of many major fashion designers. Imitators of the best at a affordable price.
When I went to the store today I was excited to see that the Zara I know and love is still the same. I was literally in MOD heaven.....or as one of my favorite stylist, Rachel Zoe, would say is "I die" or "That's bananas!" Basically I walked in, gasped at all the beautiful clothing, and wondered how much my arms could hold and how many items I was allowed to take into the fitting room. It was freaking fantastic!
While I loved the clothing, there were a few things that I would have to say that this Zara store needs to work on. The first was the dust. When I was looking at several pairs of shoes I literally had to blow on the shoes to get all the dust off before I could try it on. While I didn't mind, I was a little taken aback because I have never had to do that at ANY retail store I have shopped at. The second thing was the lack of sizes. While I do understand that this is a European owned store, most Americans tend to be a little larger. That being said, most items I loved they didn't have in anything bigger than a Medium. I am a size 8. The average American is a size 12. Basically that means that they need to start carrying more of the Large and Extra Large frame. I hope that next time I head in I will actually be able to find my size because then I would be able to buy more of the things I love!
This location ain't got nothin' on Old Orchard. Yet. I swung by opening day and was disappointed they didn't really do it up. I assume with time there will be more bells and whistles.
OMG finally Michigan Avenue has a Zara. I used to shop Zara in Paris, and New York so when Zara came to Santa Monica, California I felt so blessed. I was always surprised the Magnificent Mile did not have Zara. So fellow Chicagoan's realize the clothes are European all the way, basically two years ahead of other mid range American Stores. If you shop anywhere in Chicago on Saturday it is horrible, to many tourists and "Hello" everyone shops on the weekends. Zara merchandises by coordinating groupings help women and men who are less stylish to put fabulous combinations together. Zara was described by Louis Vuitton fashion director Daniel Piette as "possibly the most innovative and devastating retailer in the world". I am reading lots of complaints about customer service at this new Chicago location. After years of shopping here and my own complaining review in California, I have learned to accept it is just the way it is. I shop Zara during the week, take my time go throughout the store and truly fashionista there are some beautiful well prices clothes here. Go ahead approach the staff (they wear black suits), they will get to know you and after time are quite nice.
I liked this Zara. They had a good selection in multiple sizes which is sometimes an issue at other stores. Yes, their prices are higher than H&M but its because their stuff doesn't look as cheap and it lasts longer. I have a handful of sweaters from Zara that have lasted longer than my H&M stuff. I'll probably be back for more of their dresses.
Zara, mi amor, you are muy fantastico! Stylish togs and chic ambience without the celestial prices.
I used to LOVE ZARA in New York, low prices for really stylish items. Although I havent been to a Zara since leaving NY 2 years ago, I was excited for it to come to Michigan Ave. and visited a month or so after it opened. What a disappointment! Although the layout and store is beautiful, the prices have skyrocketed (if I want a $160 blazer, Ill wait for a properly made Ralph Lauren one to go on sale!) and the quality is dismal. Most of the shoes and even some of the clothing I checked out was glued together, not sewn, which means it will fall apart rather quickly. Even some of the sequin skirts which are ever so popular right now were unraveling on their hangers. The one decent thing I found was a great over sized sweater for around $30 but upon closer inspection the sweater, and its counterparts, all already had some pulls. This place is an optical illusion and is way overpriced for its shoddy construction. Steer clear or your closet will pay later.
So...I was super psyched about Zara's opening. I will not disagree that the quality for the price is just right. But....was it me (or the champagne) but was it ALL jackets and tops in there? I felt that there were pieces of outfits missing in this store guys. I have been to Zara Madrid, Buenos Aires and NY and this one wasn't put together...merchandise wise.
But I will not lose faith....still love the brand....they just need a better Merchandiser.
I just shopped there Friday for the first time. I was not at all impressed! The merchandise was mediocre for the price. The worst aspect of my experience was the awful customer service! No one wanted to help me. Their seemed to be no order in the store at all. I've received better service at Walmart. Probably won't do back.
Hmmmm. Went on the opening day. Raining and muggy outside which meant the store was just as hot (not really their fault since AC season is over) Anyway, store laid out nicely; not too crammed but long lines for fitting room & checkout. Ok, went to return some items the following day that didn't work out. Wow, they need to change the process of returns (15 agonizing mins) plus the sales associates all seem like they are clueless; not throughly trained; & major lack of customer service. So bad I question whether I'll return because I was anxious of the store opening since I've visited one abroad. Hope they get it together. Prices are decent & clothes are cute. But the shopping experience leaves much to be desired!!!
