Best egg salad sandwich - at brunch they put smoked salmon on it. Pretty awesome, I gotta say. I know it's hard to get excited for an egg salad sandwich but if you try this one, it'll change your mind.

I've also had lunch here and that was pretty decent - I got a salad of some sort and it was chalk full of stuff. There's nothing worse than getting a salad that is sheisty (sp?) with the non-lettuce-y items.

Haven't tried dinner yet here but I'm sure it's yummy.  The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance to it - would be good for anything from a date to a place to bring your parents.

Walking up tho this place, I just *knew* I was in for a good one.

I am a huge sucker for Italian wine bars. Particularly ones with things on the menu that I don't understand.

Stepping in, I was met by a handsome man who took my coat and seated me at the bar while I waited for my wonderful date to arrive. i asked what the best Pinot on the list was.  Apparently, there is only one, and hence the docked star.  For a wine bar, please have more pinot options as this one was fairly subpar.

With this exception, the place was flawless.  We were seated and started up a gab fest, thus shoeing off the server several times because we hand't had a chance to check out the menu. Finally, we perused and ordered the Borallata (like really creamy mozeralla cheese) with prosciutto and bread, garlic prawns, and the beat/goat cheese salad.  We shared the plates and split the meal - costing about $30 per person excluding tip.  Not bad for a nice place in New York!

It's convenient to get to and would be a wonderful place for a first date. Romantic without being over-the-edge. Yummy italian food. And a neighborhood-y vibe.  I'll be back - for sure.

The don't take reservations for groups under four, but for two arrive at 8:30 on a Friday evening it wasn't a problem. Enjoy!

Chicken liver crostini you were luscious!!! OMFG

Came here for dinner with a total of 10 people over the weekend.  We shared a number of savory dishes such as burrata w pancetta, beef carpaccio, cheese and charcuterie plate, lamb special, crostinis, sardines and tons more antipasti. The bottles are decently priced, ranging from $30-90 and glasses start at $8.  We were all stuffed and had a good amount of vino all for a little over $50/pp. The server was attentive and accommodating. It was a very pleasant experience.

I would come here again for a glass and an order or 5 of them chicken liver crostini. AHHHH!!! Put it in my mouth!

The waitress was fantastic!
Samples and samples of wine till we found the perfect ones!
And plates of prosciutto, salame, cheeses, and pork loin.
The price is fair for all that you get, but seriously...
get the wine.

LOVED this place, so happy we stumbled upon it. Of course it was me who saw a picture of a pig and said "ooohh what's that place, let's go eat there!" Chic decor, awesome lighting, great service. The caprese salad, arugula and pear salad, and fig + prosciutto sandwich really got our tastebuds dancing up a storm. Definitely worth a detour to stop by!

Fantastic neighborhood spot for a light meal or snack, with wine of course.  Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the venue was delightful.  There was a good energy here, with a very chic and attractive crowd.  Plus, the prices are very reasonable!  Only drawback is that they don't take reservations, but otherwise it's a 4.5 start place.

Each small plate I had at Zampa was perfectly fine - lasagna, bruschetta, shrimp bruschetta, assiete de charculterie, trout, curry.  However, I was taken aback that there was not really a coordinated theme on the menu.  I could have gotten this sense because my table ordered so many random dishes, but even so it seems like this restaurant's identity is lost in a menagerie of foods that don't really fit together as a coherent meal.  On the positive side, we had skilled waiters who helped effectively with the wine list (moderately-sized but not bad), and the prices are reasonable for the area.

Unrelated - I wasn't really feeling the modern wood & metal decor.  I should have looked at the website more carefully.

I eat here all the damn time, and it's fantastic.  The crostini are fantastic, the soups are not cream based and therefore have actual flavor, and the shrimp orzo salad is absolutely my favorite thing.  Staff is kind and courteous, very friendly.  I love it.

I used to work 3 blocks away from this place.... bad news, I craved the Speck, Mascarpone, Tomato on Focaccia(NOT pressed) sandwich at least 3 times a week. I ended up getting the whole office hooked, especially my boss. He ate the same tomato mozzarella sandwich everyday. Sometimes the delivery guy was at the office 3 times a day!!

I have also had their Fennel salad, Pear and Gorgonzola salad, and watermelon and strawberry fresh juice.... to die for! Also don't forget to get desert( they are fresh everyday)I don't know what it's called but it's long and it has chocolate on top and crumbles.

FYI: They get their bread fresh everyday and often run out of the Focaccia
BEST SANDWICH EVER!

Delicioso!

Went here a little late on a Friday night.  We were immediately seated (although it certainly wasn't empty, more like casually attended.)  The waiter was helpful and pleasant.  yada yada yada.  Onto the important stuff:

The food!

We were a little overwhelmed at the menu.  It's sort of an exaggerated appetizer menu, along with a few paninis and a few specials.  They also have a fine selection of meats, cheeses, and crostinis.

We started with the Gorgonzola, which was served with a fig jam.  My mouth is still thanking my brain for this wise choice.  Of the millions of decisions I've made in the past week, both subconsciously and consciously, this may have been the best one.  Never before had I tasted such delightfully creamy cheese.  While typically sharp and strong, this Gorgonzola was subversive.  Like a gentle giant, it spoke volumes in whispers.  The fig jam only complemented the fantastic cheese like Lennie complements George.  These two are mighty fine together.

We also enjoyed three crostinis; chicken liver, ricotta and red pepper, white bean and duck prosciutto.  Each of which were delicious, especially the liver (I'm a jew.  I like my liver and I like it chopped.)  But our minds were still reeling from the Gorgonzola.

More, we shared the broccoli rabe and olive oil.  It was broccoli rabe. Albeit good broccoli rabe.

For entrees we split the stuffed shells with ricotta and spinach special and the pork loin panini.  The shells, amazing, full of flavor and perfectly cooked.  The panini was also noteworthy, however was still a panini.

Our waiter recommended wines, and we were more than satisfied.

Zampa is tasty, hip, and well priced.  I will return.

Really cute and cozy Italian place in the middle of the meat packing district...who would've thought?

The staff here is really friendly. Our server was so chill, he was totally rockin the Fabio-flowy-open-shirt business. I could've sworn he was from California, but it turns out he's from Minnesota. Oh and turns out he's an actor in Gran Torino haha. Anyway, he gave us great suggestions. The food was light and delicious...I left feeling really content and not overly stuffed.

Came here for dinner after stopping by 675 bar.
The place was cute and we ordered several things on the menu.
Shared everything and it was all good-I liked the fava bean dish.
For dessert, the waiter recommended the Chocolate Hazelnut Bread Pudding (I told him I dont like bread pudding) but he said theirs was well-known so we got it and he was right.

I've been wanting to check out this place for some time, and when some friends came from out of town, I thought it was perfect timing!

I made a reservation for 8:30pm, and we had to wait a few for a table. The table was a tight squeeze for 4, and all the yummy dishes we got.

Our waiter was great in explaining the various dishes to us, explaining it was like Italian tapas. Okay. Every place these days is like small plates, but that's fine. More to sample and choose from.

We had the roasted beet and pear salads-- the portions were quite big- easily one could be split between two people with another option meat dish. We had the oven-roasted shrimp as well as the roasted beets. (I dream of these...)  Along with the meat Antipasto, it rounded out into a nice full meal.
It's been so long since I've been there.... I am almost forgetting how delicious it was. Must return soon....

Really good food and wine list, cool ambience, make sure you go with a group that's open to sharing, trying new stuff and not intimidated by tapas style menus. There were sooo many things that I wanted to try but couldn't get any takers in the group! Will have to go back though because the bruschetta and wine were fabulous as was the butternut squash canneloni. Want to check out the goat cheese beet salad next time... a little pricey, so gotta save it for a special occasion. :)

Excellent little wine bar/ restaurant tucked away in some random corner behind a gas station.  Keep an eye out for the pig etched on the glass in the front--its pretty much the only marker besides the smallish sign.

They have a great wine selection (I'm rather partial to the prosecco) and tasty desserts and sandwiches.  The rest of their entrees have been a little too out of my price range for me to sample.

It's pretty crowded on any given night... once I got there at 9 pm and we still had to wait.  It also gets a little loud, just to warn you.

Super huge plus--there's a male bartender there who is SMOKING HOT.  Try to sit at the bar, you'll see what I mean.  :)

Any place with a geographical culinary map of a pig in the window is sure to get my attention, and truth be told, this place has often caught my eye in my jaunts down to the Meatpacking District, but I never thought much of it.  Then it was chosen arbitrarily for it's proximity to a bar and the rest, as they say, is history.

Zampa is a really cozy, friendly little place.  It combines just the right amount of downtown style, but miraculously lacks any of the obnoxiousness you might find were it located one avenue further west.  It seems like a place the locals go to over and over again, and it was the perfect spot for a small group dinner.

Plates are small, but perfect for sharing, order a bunch and a bottle (or 2) of wine and call it dinner.  Highlights were the special - a delicious spanish sausage served on a bed of lentils and the bresaola. Obviously pig is the way to go here. Add a charming waiter to guide you through and a price tag (all told) of about $40/person and you've got a great little find.

Sometimes the closest place turns out to be the right one.

Should my friend's fantasy come true -- and they begin to require new patrons to sing a song called Zampa Zampa Zampa --  feel free to borrow from this at will.  I'll consider my sacrifice of royalties a public service in the spirit of National Poetry Month.

****

NATASHA'S ZAMPA ZAMPA ZAMPA SONG

(human beat box, curtsying)

Would that they let me sample
their robbiola plate,
Zampa! Zampa! Zampa!
I'd serenade 'til late.

'twixt bites of chicken liver,
and sips of M-puciano,
I'd fabulize their molten cake,
the crust of their lasagna

and diners - gay in every sense -
and vibe - so neighborhood-y.
For folks who like to sit at bars,
this joint is slick yet woody.

(end of human beat box; blowing of kisses)

I would have given this place 4 stars, except for their weird reservation policy.  They only take reservations for 3 or more, and we were told that with 2 we could just walk in.  Well, they offered a table but told us that we'd have to vacate it in an hour.  When I displayed disappointment, they gave us an hour and 20 minutes.  Not feeling up to going elsewhere, and since it was my friend's idea to come here, I decided to just make the most of it.  The service was good, except for the time restriction-- I understand it was not their fault, but still, I like to relax when I eat.

The lasagna is to die for.  It's actually quite small, maybe the size of a Stouffers' lasagna, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.  We started off with the roasted beet salad with fennel and arugula (very good), the asparagus vinagrette with prosciutto (good), the bruscetta (excellent), and some sort of cheese...it was mild and infused with truffle oil.  The food is pricey, but not that bad.  Small plates around $8 to $12, and the lasagna was $18.

Their wine list is extensive and reasonable.  I actually opted for an Aranciata and Limonata, which I've had a craving for recently.

Place: Great location, good ambiance, nice decor, intimate, good for couples and for friends gatherings.
Food: Fantastic, very fine. Order as you eat, still hungry? liked a dish more than another? order more of it or a variance of it and it will come fast. Three of us ate until we were stuffed (two hungry 6"+ guys, one girl) plus had a nice bottle of rose: $50/person. So, very reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food we got.

I was here for a quick bite just before a small venue at the Highline Ballroom nearby.  It was pretty quiet right after work but the food and drinks were affordable and delicious.  I had the Eggplant, Peppers and Mozzarella with Olive Tapenade and my friend got the special which was a personal sized mushroom spinach lasagna.  I was surprised the lasagna arrived in a small terra cotta loaf sized for one, and even more surprised when I tried it.  It was delicious and made quickly.  I wanted to order another one but we had to go.
I would stop by again when I'm in the neighborhood.

Zampa has truely nailed the art of new italian cuisine!

I love this place so much, i frequent it for lunch, dinner and they cater our work events.  Some of my friends and co-workers say i'm obsessed, but i can't deny my love for their mushroom, fontina, truffle oil panino and chickpea salad!

I have to say, their lunch menu is by far better than their dinner and brunch... so if you want to check out this great place, hit them up during the day time hours.  They have plenty of sandwiches and veggie options to choose from.  During lunch hours, they also have daily specials... such as, cuban sandwich, lasagna bolognase, and my fav, watermelon lemonade.

Just go people, you wont be disappointed.

Good casual place to stop by for a quick bite or drinks with either a friend or a date.  Zampa's menu selection is not extensive nor too expensive, but it covers all grounds.  I wasn't hungry so I opted for antipasti (speck, bresaola, and parmeggiano).  The meats were good but I didn't particularly like how the parmeggiano cheese were thrown on to the plate in huge chunks.  It seemed like they were sort of angry that I didn't order more food but I can't help it if all I wanted was a light bite!  But service given by good-looking waiters make all dining experiences much better.  Like Chris L., I haven't quite figured out why they chose the pig to represent Zampa, when that means "leg" in Italian.  Some things are still enigmatic and it's worth returning to figure it all out but on a hungry stomach.  Stay tuned for updates...

Perfect meeting place on a gloomy afternoon...
Right amount of flair and elegance that kept us happy.

Loved:
Crabapple blossoms
Eames chair
Graphics through out
Great design -layout
Waitress was sweet and informative
Sliced bread w/olive oil "for the table"
Ily cappuccino

Ordered
Me:  Grilled Shitake Mushroom, Truffle Oil, Arugula and Fontina -fresh ingredients, choice of bread (ciabatta) which had a lot of crunch, warm 'n satisfying flavors. Came with penne salad, tomatoes, + cubed cheese.
Also recommended by our waitress.
C:  Tuna Tartare, arugula salad -looked good, small/medium size plate.
K:  Poached Gulf Shrimp, Orzo, Herbal Vinaigrette & Feta -cooked perfectly and delicious.

Our cappuccino where spot on.  And I was very full by the end and enjoyed our talk without any disturbances ie noise.  The owner Anthony came by to say hello and he's actually busy working on another location nearby.  That's great to hear especially in our current economic state.
Lovely Cool Vibe.

No totally sure what the pig in the window has to do with the restaurant's theme (except that you could choose a selection of meats), but I liked it nevertheless. In a nutshell, dining here involves good wine, delicious Italian tapas, great ambiance, and good service. I was impressed by the eloquence of our server, the flexibility of the restaurant (our party kept sponaneously growing, despite our small table, and the staff just helped us pull up more chairs), and the simple deliciousness of the food. I particularly enjoyed the various crositinis, the pork panini, and the very sesame-seasoned tuna tartare. Nothing on the menu was uber-creative and new but everything was executed well.

Everything we ate was delicious but the bruchetta, beet salad and bread pudding were especially noteworthy.  Add a bottle of delicious wine, a sexy/sophisticated space, and good friends and you get an awesome night.  We walked in at 8:30 for dinner on a Saturday night and were seated at the bar right away.  We drank, ate, and talked leisurely and never felt rushed.  Definitely will be back.

Fantastic. Great food, good wine list, hip crowd, and in my neighborhood. Decided at the last minute to try this place before going out on a Saturday night. Showed up at 9:15 and it was CROWDED. Although we didn't have a ressie, the hostess found us seats at the bar and told us that we would have a table shortly.

2 glasses of prosecco later and many updates about our table the hostess seated us. We ordered a cheese plate ( Parmigiana, Fontina and a special: Pecorino with black truffles), 3 crostini ( white bean and duck, fresh ricota with roasted peppers, and white bean, with truffle oil and broccoli rabe), and and the baked Lasagna Bolognese ( which we noticed during our time at the bar every table had ordered).  To wash it down, we ordedred a bottle of the Ciro Bianco, San Francesco. Delish! And the Manager took his time explaining the grape and region where it came from ( even though it was insanely busy).

I don't have a negative thing to say about this place. It would be perfect for a date, a long dinner with friends, or to start out a night of antics. I was thrown by some of the reviews and the website itself because the emphasis is placed on the wine and not the food.

My new favorite neighborhood spot by far!

Great for the price. Fun atmosphere and tons of choices.

Of the dishes we had, the following were super yummy:

Beet salad (with blood oranges - how could you say no?)
Bruschetta (the oil they used seemed special to me)
Lasagna - it was super cheesy and almost creamy
Bread pudding

The chicken with spinach and peppers was fine but nothing to write home about.

This seems like a great date place, but also a really good place for groups since it's relatively cheap and many of the dishes are meant to be shared.

Went to Zampa for dinner on a Saturday night.  The atmosphere is really nice - not overly trendy, but just right.  Good music/scene.  The specials (wines, meats, entrees) are written throughout the restaurant on a chalkboard.  We ordered the 3 salumi dish appetizer (proscuitto di parma, soprasetta and mortadella i think) and 3 crostinis (ricotta and bell pepper, tuna and capers, and white bean duck proscuitto).  These were all excellent, especially the proscuitto di parma.  The ricotta and bell pepper was particularly good out of the 3 crostinis.

For our entrees, I had the special of the day (cannoloni with kale and something) and my cousin had the salmon with lentils.   Both were good - nothing spectacular or unique, but tasty and filling.  I would give the food a 4 star rating, but I made this a 5 star rating because the waiters and the owner were very friendly and attentive.

We skipped dessert (and got cupcakes at nearby Magnolia's instead), but had coffee and I had a glass of the dessert wine (graham's 6 year something something).   So with 2 appetizers ($18-ish each), 2 entrees ($13-ish), 1 coffee, 2 glasses of wine ($14-ish) and 1 dessert wine ($9-ish), it came to about $100-ish pre-tip.

I saw all kinds of people here - those on dates, those in a big group of 8, and some small groups of friends.  The space is pretty small, but they could accomodate the large group that came in after us.  The place calls itself a wine bar - i think you could probably come in and have a glass of wine at the bar.  Though everyone I saw was eating too, not just drinking.

You can make reservations on http://opentable.com.

I am so not surpised to find a plethora of 5 star reviews on this place! I absolutely loved it. My boyfriend and I came here to kill time one night, so we only ordered some wine and one appetizer. We will be back for more!

I ordered a Primitivo because I like Primitivo and because at $8 a glass it was the cheapest red by the glass they had. It was delicious! Actually better than the Nero D'Avola that my boyfriend ordered which was more expensive.

But then, the best decision we made, was to order the bacalao pureed with potatoes and cream as a little snack. Mother of god this is the best bacalao I have ever tasted! Better than Boqueria, better than anything I had in actual Spain! It was so creamy and savory, we were practically licking the little ceramic dish it came in.

I can only imagine the rest of the food here is equally delicious!

Just a stone's throw away from the Meatpacking district, you'll find this subdued Italian sandwich, salad and wine bar.

The food is very fresh -  I had the Roasted Chicken on Arugula with Avocado salad, and shared a Grilled Shitaki Mushroom and Taleggio cheese and truffle oil panini (quite rich, by the way, so I'd recommend sharing it).  For desert, had the mixed berry tart - also delicious.

Very reasonably priced considering the quality of the ingredients - salads and paninis in the $8 to $12 range for the most part.

Considering the spectacular amounts of pretentiousness flowing through the streets of the neighborhood they are really really laid back.

I'm sure the fact that we were all dressed very nicely helped, but designer bags and shoes don't hold a lot of clout at a place like... I dunno... Pastis. Anyway.

Brunch for 4, we got seated right away. Then they broke my heart and told me they don't have liquor. I guess I'll have to stick to champagne cocktails.

I had egg salad and smoked salmon on ciabatta which was good, but definitely on the dainty side. It could have been twice the size and I would have had no problem eating the whole thing.

My friends all enjoyed their food, but the general consensus was that there wasn't enough of it. We even joked about ordering round 2... and not of the drinks.

This place is F**king awesome. Seriously. The food has evolved to a level that I can only explain as- I'd travel across the city for it.

The owner, Anthony is totally awesome and attentive and rocks the place.

Did I mention it's awesome?

Get a choice of three cheeses and include the special of the day cheese.
The Mushroom Panini is to die for and the new Chicken main is light and delish. For dessert we shared the marcapone gelato, bread pudding and pecan tarte. Yum.

The place was packed and so much fun tonight.

This place is spot-on.  Finally tried this place after far too long, and couldn't have been happier.  Our table of four split antipasto di verdure, three crostini, mushroom lasagna, black cod, two caprese salads and two bottles of wine.  The food was heavenly, the service was SO friendly and great, and the place was just perfect.  Relaxed yet bustling, great decor, overall great feeling.  Just loved it!  Sure to become a go-to for a great neighborhood Italian joint for great food and smiling, friendly service.

I absolutely loved this wine bar.  Soooooo good.  The three small plates that were recommended, heirloom tomatoes with mozzarella, eggplant/peppers- roasted with crisp sourdough bread, and lasagne bolognese, were all memorable.  Tons of different wines by the glass and all relatively inexpensive.  Great place for a date or friends catching up.  I will definitely go back!!
