I could furnish my entire house with stuff from Z  -- maybe a bit too much of funky fabulous-ness;)  They also have a lot of traditional pieces that are more contemporary versus all ornate and shit.

I bought my dream sofa from Z -- chocolate brown, deep, plush, hella cozy and gorgeous to boot.  Z has tons of furniture and home accent pieces including rugs/drapes/to die for dishes/etc.  I recommend this place for anyone who is interesting or is trying to be at least!

Shipping is FREE!

The girlfriend and I are longtime customers of this particular Z Gallerie location, and have made many purchases over the last year to furnish our place.  Up until today, we have been very pleased with the quality of the merchandise, the helpfulness of the staff, and the price we paid.

Unfortunately that all changed today.  Last night, we were having coffee after dinner on the promenade, and as usual we stopped into this store just to look.  We've been trying to find a large canvas painting and this store has an often changing selection of wall art.  We were both struck by a very large and colorful abstraction of the city of Los Angeles which was perched against the frame wrapping table.

We did not see a price, so we asked the woman behind the counter for assistance.  She was very nice and she and one of the associates informed us it was $199.  Without too much discussion we decided to purchase it...and we were thrilled to find out that the store had a promotion where they were covering the cost of the sales tax.

Since we did not intend on purchasing a large piece of artwork, we did not bring my car, which would have had adequate space.  The representative who sold us the art assisted us in trying to fit it into the girlfriend's car.  When it did not fit he told us that we were welcome to wait until tomorrow to come get it when we could bring a larger vehicle.  He told us the store opened at ten A.M.

Fast forward to this morning...  we drove up the alley between 2nd and 3rd street to the Z Gallerie merchandise pickup door.  It was 10:45 A.M.  As stated on the gate we rang the bell ONLY ONCE.  We waited patiently for five minutes and since there was no response I rang the bell again just once.  Immediately after I released the bell button I heard a very bitchy sounding woman scream at me from behind the door:  "WE AREN'T OPEN!!"

I replied:  "the guy last night said you were open at 10"

Bitch behind the door (with a HUGE attitude):  "WELL WE DON'T OPEN TIL 11!!"

We were livid--not because the man last night made a mistake, but because we were treated so horribly, and weren't even apologized to when we explained what we were told.  Since we had somewhere to be and don't like being yelled at we decided we would come back later and return the painting.

Later this afternoon just before 2:00 P.M. we returned to the store to get our money back and explain to the manager why.  I asked the lady at the register if I could speak with the manager.  She very willingly called her, and asked what the problem was.  I began to explain and as I was getting to the part describing how we were yelled at a short dark haired woman piped into the conversation and said (I don't remember the exact words to quote EXACTLY):

Short dark haired woman: Yes I heard "Janet" (aka "the bitch behind the door") yell to you through the door.

I replied:  Well, we were told to come in at 10:00 and while I understand that was a mistake, she could have been nicer to us and not rudely yelled at us.

Short dark haired woman:  well for security reasons we have to yell through the door.

I replied:  Well I don't like being yelled at so I'd like to return this and spend my $200 elsewhere.

Short dark haired woman (sarcastically and completely unapologetically): sure, no problem!

I didn't bother wasting a single other breath on this woman who clearly lacks any managerial skills.  She made zero apology for the inconvenience and didn't make even the slightest attempt at saving the sale.  It's amazing to me with all I've been reading in the papers about retailers fearful of the worst recession and upcoming holiday season since the Great Depression that a manager like this wouldn't even apologize for a situation that was obviously a huge misunderstanding.  Had she been more empathetic I would have likely still bought the painting.

...but clearly the message I got today was that as a consumer in a tough economy it's unreasonable for me to be upset if I get screamed at by a store employee for following the instructions given to me by another employee.

I will not be shopping here again.

Love love love LOVE Z Gallerie!!  One of my friends said once that "If you decorated your entire home with stuff from Z Gallerie, you would have ONE tacky house!"  So true, my friend, so true.

While I would never suggest you decorate your abode in all things Z, I would tell you that the place is a virtual mecca for chotchkys!!  Pillows?  Check.  Rugs? Check.  Zebra print vases? Check.  Ornate picture frames and wall art? Check. Throw blankies...curtain panels...ashtrays...clocks? Check.

You just can't go wrong if you are looking for that one special item to really make or break your room...Z Gallerie is like the punk step-sister of a Pottery Barn.  Everything cool for the home but presented in a more eclectic fashion and at a MUCH cheaper cost.

I love this place! Gifts for me, gifts for other people, but mostly for me. I've been shopping here since they opened, and that's a long time. I've bought a ton of cool stuff but the best were skull plates... yes, skull plates, and skull platters with little rhinestones!

Z Gallerie offers a large collection of ornate home decorating accents and furniture.  This particular location has a really wonderful collection of posters and art prints, so it is worth stopping by to browse.
