I normally use Yelp for restaurants, hair salons, dry cleaners and the like but having my hardwood floors refinished was a BIG decision with many contractors to choose from. I am 100% satisfied and thrilled that I chose Z-Best Hardwood Flooring. The final coat was applied yesterday and when I came home this morning and opened the door.... GORGEOUS! I almost put on my sunglasses the way my hardwood floors shined! Wow!
I remodeled my kitchen removing existing cabinetry which then required new hardwood flooring. I was very nervous about how the new would match and tie-in with the existing. Being an architect, I pride myself on having an extremely detailed and very fussy "eye" for finished work. There is nothing worse than seeing the old work and new work not matching. The job Z-Best did is flawless!!! Like I said before... GORGEOUS!
The price was extremely reasonable for re-finishing the existing PLUS adding a small area of new. I found paperwork from 10 years ago (different contractor) when I ONLY had the floors re-finished and the price was almost identical although the scope of work this time was greater.
Davis is a real pleasure to work with. His knowledge, expertise and kind personality are refreshing. When he first came to look at my floors, he got on his hands and knees, splashing water on the wood, sticking a business card between boards... I thought he was mad. No, he's just extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his work.

I had z best come out and bid a floor for me last fall and they were WAY over priced.
Two gentleman came out to bid my kitchen floor, which is under 200sf. They were to match and continue an existing floor that was a very common wood. Their price for labor alone was 1700$, that is nearly $10 per square foot! Not including materials! Which is outrageous! When I commented about their per square foot price they said, "that's why we are z best".
I ended up going with another contractor who charged me labor and materials ~ $1300. The job was done beautifully and I am extremely happy with the result.
My review is a bit late but I think it is amazing how many good reviews are out there for these guys when they charge a fortune.

Z-Best is THE best! Davis and his crew were fantastic to work with. We had bamboo floors installed in our 3rd floor bedroom. The work was completed on budget and ahead of schedule.
We could not be happier with the flooring install, they did a beautiful job. Really professional and dialed in. Great communication throughout the process and you truly have the confidence that they care about the service they provide.
All of 5 stars were well earned. -

Z-Best Hardwood Floor is truly the BEST! My parents wanted their hardwood floors to be re-finished and I found Davis and his company on YELP. Davis showed up to give us an estimate and we found out that he coincidentally also re-finished the floors of my parent's neighbor. We immediately took a look at the neighbor's hardwood floors and they were beautiful. The neighbors raved about Z-Best and after talking with Davis and hearing his estimate it was a done deal. We received:
+ Best Price - Great price with no hidden costs
+ Best Staff - Davis and his staff were always professional, showed up on time, and finished within the time line
+ Best Craftsmanship - Davis and his staff did a great job re-finishing my parent's herringbone hardwood floors. The floors look fantastic!

Davis came out to give his estimate and explained all the details to us with respect to re-doing the existing hardwood floors in our house. Based primarily upon the yelp reviews and his pricing, we decided to go with him.
We liked how he would give his opinion if we asked, but was in no way pushy at all. Davis gave us all sorts of options and although I was tempted to go for the basketball gym floor finish in my living room, it was ultimately shot down by my wife.
At the end of the day we were very happy with the pricing, service, and their ability to wrap up everything timely. We've received lots of compliments from both friends and strangers visiting our home.
The only complaints that I have are minor details, but there was one section next to the kitchen that apparently had water damage from the previous owner. Davis's crew recommended replacing a few of the slats of wood, which we agreed to do and paid extra for. Small cracks have developed and I can feel them when I walk over it with bare feet. -

Amazing service!
Davis came out to personally give us an estimate. We liked him immediately and felt comfortable with his services. He recommended things that we hadn't even considered. His crew was professional and did an excellent job. They were also very fast yet thorough. When it was determined that our home had two different types of hardwood floors that were slightly different colors when the stain was applied, Davis came out to personally inspect them and recommended a darker application to the different wood to make sure the floors matched perfectly. We are thrilled with the outcome and would definitely use Z Best again! -

OK - Its clear they are ZBest. Have you ever read so many great reviews? I refinished my floors myself a few years ago and they looked OK (= pretty bad). We finally decided to have them redone and WOW! we never thought they could look so good. Like a great dessert you don't want to eat. Davis is a really nice guy and a real pro.

Called for a price quote, needed about 1,800-2,000sq ft of distressed hickory wood floors in 5" and 7" planks. The owner (I assume) said she would call me back with a price quote. A day passed by and I didn't hear back from her. So I called her the next day and again, she said that she would talk to her supplier and get back to me. Again, she didn't get back to me the next day so I called her AGAIN. Luckily for me, her supplier (or installer, whatever) was there so I talked to him for a couple for minutes. She told me at the end of our conversation that she would get back to me with more options and pricing. AGAIN, I still haven't heard from her and it's been a week.
UMMM... OK, not that the amount of wood you need should determine the quality of service, but 1,800-2,000 sq ft is a good amount and you would think they would try a little harder. All I wanted was a damn price quote! SO disappointed.
Going with Carousel Custom Floors in Pasadena. Expensive, but completely worth it and my custom floors will look AMAZING! Ask for Marv, he is the best!
EDIT: THIS IS FOR THE OWNERS WHO REPLIED TO MY REVIEW
Let me make this clear and put it in bullet points so you can understand clearly.
- It makes NO SENSE when you say "What may seem to you as bad phone ethics may be part of our company policy", unless you mean being rude is part of your company policy, which doesn't surprise me AT ALL.
- You do have a lot to improve on, and as a consumer, I should tell you that phone etiquette is EXTREMELY important. That's something you should already know.
- I NEVER called on speaker phone, YOU were the one who was on speaker phone when your wife three wayed you. And, IF I did call on speaker phone, that makes you automatically assume that I work for Carousel Floors and am trying to "piggy back" on your "success"? Are you serious?
- I didn't want to give out my address because you NEVER offered to come to my home for an onsite estimate. Your wife just said she'd call me back, and never did.
- We spent $42,000 on HIGH QUALITY oak floors. If you had told me Oak was another option, I would've happily invited you to my home for an onsite estimate.
- You said "We told you we can sale you the material only @ $5.69 which is exact price we would buy it w/o any markup. to which you replied in shock " but why everyone else charge me $18.00" ??" Again, this makes NO SENSE at all. Why would I compare your price of $5.69 to the $18 I received? Are you talking about oak? Or hickory? Because you just said you didn't install hickory. Seriously? Did you read my review correctly?

Davis is the best! He was on time to meet with me to give me a quote to refinish some wood floors that probably had never seen the light of day for over 20 years. His estimate for my 1500 sq foot house was very reasonable. He couldn't fortell if there were any water damage but it was an estimated quote.
Davis knows the business. There is a way to refinish floors while having the house painted and he gave tips to make sure that refinishing the floors and wall painting isn't going to either dirty the painted walls, or damage the painted floors.
Davis worked with me in scheduling around the holiday season. While he estimated that it would take 7-8 days, I needed him to finish in 5 which he worked around.
He is very easy to reach on the phone. Always returns phone calls. Keeps you informed of what is going on. Gives honest and good advice.
When I made the decision to not repair some wood in the dining room because I was going to put a rug over it, my husband thought we should repair. This happened on the final walk through. When I asked Davis if the repairs could be done, he said, yes but that it would cost him more money but he would eat the cost. I didn't want to put Davis in that situation and even though he told me that it is NOT about the money, but about the customer being satisfied, I was grateful knowing that Davis would have made the repairs for me. I decided not to since it was my fault I didn't make the decision earlier. But I just wanted to tell you what a great guy Davis is. He is willing to make the customer happy.
When I questioned some additional costs that a couple of his workers had listed for repairs, Davis got right on top of it. Davis came to the house with the workers and had them point it out and calculate the costs. Also, I made the mistake of not knowing to take out the baseboards as I had someone else pull up the carpet and dispose of it. Davis was reasonable in redoing the additional costs because of the misunderstanding.
I would highly recommend Davis for your wood floors. I had other people look at the estimate and they said that my price was pretty reasonable. Davis is an honest and hardworking person. -

No complaints here! They really did a great job finishing off our veneer floors. The floors are super-sensitive and look fantastic. Davis came almost immediately to give us a quote. I even just called him to ask the best way to clean and he offered me free cleaning supplies.
Very satisfied with the price, the result and most importantly, the service. -

This is really a critique on this company's lack of follow up. I had zbest install some pretty beautiful wood floors in my home several months back and thought they did a wonderful job. A few months later, i emailed Davis for some help b/c my downstairs neighbors were complaining of the noise, even tho i had Davis install the "maximum" soundproofing possible. I just wanted to know what Davis could suggest for me, that's it. But no response, even after 2 emails. Hmmm...i guess, once you do business with him and the job's done, that's it. I'm disappointed. I sure would've liked a response from him, especially after i spent several thousand dollars for the floors.

Z-Best is the BEST indeed! Davis and his crew just finished sanding and staining our newly-purchased 1930's Spanish-style home and the floors look amazing!
Here are the reasons for the 5 stars: Extremely reasonably-priced, Davis is so easy to work with and is always just a phone call away, he and his crew were the consummate professionals, and they clearly know how to do floors.
My husband and I were being very picky about the stain color and Davis guided us through the process until we found the perfect shade! He and his crew were efficient and they delivered the most beautiful floor we could have ever asked for. -

I first used Z-Best Hardwood Floor when I was flipping a house and needed a professional to refinish the hardwood floors. I called several companies but none of them even came close to comparing to Z-Best in terms of service. Davis came over to give me a quote the day after I called him where other companies often seemed too busy to really care about my job or had to find time to 'squeeze' in my quote. Davis is professional and organized and knows his trade inside and out. What was even better is that Davis told me he could send a crew to start the job two days later. I've flipped a few houses but never ever have I had a company respond so quickly! After seeing the quality refinishing job that Davis' crew did at the house, I was sold on Z-Best. I have since used them to refinish and replace some hardwood at my own home as well as at my parents' house. I am 100% confident that you will be fully satisfied with the work that Z-Best Hardwood Floor does for you.

Davis and his crew did such a wonderful job on the bedroom and livingroom of my place. The price was fair (and actually came in under the estimate!). The guys worked around my existing furniture and knocked the entire job out in two days. When I replace this floor (in a few decades), I'll use them again!
